Background
Zhang Tianyuan transmigrates into the Lord Game on a low-lying island during a typhoon. Seawater floods his main base and destroys the cloning laboratory responsible for producing starting peasants. He survives the night crouched on the base’s highest control console, but the damage leaves him without a viable way to develop his territory normally 2.
A hard drive brought from his former world fuses with the base and produces the Spacetime Tunnel module. Both worlds he initially discovers correspond to films stored on that drive. He first hopes to use their technology and resources to gain an advantage over other lords, while also planning to rescue people from their apocalypses 2.
His initial plan to proceed cautiously changes when an enormous wooden ship passes his island. Suspecting that other players began earlier than he did, he decides to establish cooperation with the movie worlds before his remaining 360 days of newcomer protection expire 2.
Appearance
Zhang Tianyuan is described as physically strong before beginning expedition training, though still far weaker than a Darkseeker 13.
- Expedition clothing: Black clothing resembling an armed-police uniform, a black helmet, and specially made boots 18.
- Carried gear: A large flashlight on his back, with a dagger and a smaller flashlight strapped to his legs 18.
- Initial crossing protection: Wears a radiation-protection suit when entering Legend World with the advance team 13.
Personality
Zhang Tianyuan combines humanitarian aims with practical self-interest. He wants to save lives, but also needs the population, resources, and industrial strength of other worlds to succeed in the Lord Game. He regards cooperation as sustainable because all sides benefit from it, rather than because they owe him unquestioning obedience 2 9 21.
He is realistic about his political limitations. He has no interest in becoming a national ruler and explicitly rejects the idea that possessing a Spacetime Tunnel makes him qualified to command countless worlds. His noninterference policy also protects the Mutual Aid Society’s independence: he refuses operating funds that could give member states leverage over the organization 9 10.
He insists on leading by example, joining searches and dangerous expeditions despite his companions’ objections. This does not make him indifferent to preparation: he refuses to enter Legend World before vaccination, trains under professional supervision, and uses technological advantages against Darkseekers rather than relying on physical strength 13 17 39 49.
His concern extends beyond keeping survivors alive. After seeing children playing and adults sharing meals in the restored settlement, he says that their present conditions are still insufficient and that the Society must give them a better life 37.
Abilities & Skills
Spacetime Tunnel
Zhang Tianyuan controls a mutated base module that discovers and connects movie worlds 2.
- World discovery: Searches consume base energy; his first two discoveries cost 20,000 energy in total 2.
- Transport: Can move people, vehicles, equipment, and entire fleets between worlds, selecting destinations such as the Imperial Capital or waters off South America 14 35 48.
- Energy cost: Early openings cost 10,000 energy per second. Increasing the covered area does not increase the per-second charge while it remains within the tunnel’s limit 2 35.
- Scale: Can cover an area measured in square kilometers; Zhang has not established its maximum extent 35.
- Time limitation: Cannot choose the initial point in a world’s timeline. He reaches 2012 in 2008 and Legend World after the viral collapse 1 10 14.
- Time synchronization: The initial tenfold time difference disappears once the tunnel has existed in the destination world for a cumulative ten seconds 3.
- Continuous connection: Successfully tests a communications cable remaining connected through an open tunnel 48.
- Emergency extraction: Cites his ability to evacuate a helicopter crew through the tunnel as a reason he can accompany their Antarctic reconnaissance flight 49.
Construction System
His panel stores construction resources and builds structures from blueprints. His first demonstrated project is an Elementary School erected in the backyard of his assigned villa 4 5.
- Resource storage: Transfers the delivered timber into the panel’s resource-management system 5.
- Automated construction: The school takes six hours and three tons of wood. A transparent, impassable enclosure surrounds it while the building forms 4 5.
- School bonuses: Increases memory by 30%, comprehension by 10%, and language-learning ability by 100% 4 7.
- Access restriction: Nonresidents cannot use the school’s study places; Society membership provides eligibility through territorial naturalization 7.
- Personal application: Uses the school to recall details of I Am Legend before preparing the expedition 8.
Wishing Machine
The Wishing Machine allows him to exchange wishes and base energy for resources and technical knowledge 11 12.
- Requests a production method for a fully effective inactivated KV Vaccine, plus enough inactivated virus material to manufacture 100,000 doses 11.
- The exchange requires two wishes and fewer than 50,000 energy points 11.
- Supplies the resulting knowledge and materials to a dedicated laboratory for research and manufacture 12.
- Suspects—but does not confirm—that access to 2012 has caused the system to credit that world’s technological level to his base, reducing the wish’s cost 11.
Lord Clauses and Resident System
Society membership applications also function as territorial naturalization agreements. Signing and fingerprinting makes applicants his residents 7 12.
- Irreplaceable lord: The system states that the lord cannot be replaced 12.
- Protection from residents: Residents cannot knowingly take or assist actions that could imprison or injure him 12.
- Limited loyalty: The clauses protect his safety but do not create unconditional loyalty 12.
- Energy generation: Residents provide recurring base energy, making recruitment essential to reliable spacetime travel 12 13 49.
Planning and Field Leadership
Zhang uses his knowledge of the films to identify threats, prepare equipment, and negotiate aid agreements, while relying on specialists for medicine, engineering, and military operations 4 10 19.
- Directs conditioning in stamina, speed, resistance to physical confrontation, obstacle clearance, and parkour before the first expedition 13.
- Coordinates survivor searches through leaflets, loudspeakers, radio broadcasts, and visible signals 16 20.
- Uses ultraviolet equipment, remote-controlled vehicles, and fire traps to clear Darkseekers 40 42.
- Delegates detailed command as his expedition grows beyond a size he can personally manage 35.
- Seeks additional intelligence because the films’ limited viewpoints cannot explain the condition of entire worlds 42.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Large expedition flashlight — Carried on his back during survivor contact near the Imperial Capital 18.
- Portable ultraviolet flashlight — Carried personally and used when entering cleared facilities 38 40.
- Dagger — Strapped to his leg as part of his expedition equipment 18.
- Helmet, black field clothing, and boots — His documented field outfit 18.
- Radiation-protection suit — Used during the first Legend World crossing as a precaution against unknown environmental contamination 13.
- Binoculars — Used to assess Ding Jingye’s approaching convoy before making contact 18.
Relationships
- Bai Xu — First official contact in 2012 and one of his earliest residents. Initially detains Zhang as a suspected cult recruiter, then becomes a central expedition member and liaison 1 3 12 37.
- Yin Hongda / Instructor Yin — Expedition colleague who frequently acts as his protector. Opposes Zhang exposing himself to danger but accompanies his operations 17 39 42.
- Wu Yisi — Early evaluator and core companion. Initially finds no supernatural traits in his body or mind; later helps investigate the school’s effects and accompanies the rescue effort 5 12 37.
- Ma Juan / Mie Juan — Driver in his initial team, responsible for the armored command vehicle used during the first crossing 11 13.
- Tong Wenshi — Leader of Legend World’s grassland settlement and a major cooperation partner. Joins the Society, establishes its local branch, and looks to Zhang as a counterweight to the much stronger 2012 government 23 24 31.
- Ding Jingye — Survivor leader who brings the newborn-mortality crisis to Zhang’s attention. Later volunteers his knowledge of the Imperial Capital as a former taxi driver 18 39.
- A He — Pregnant survivor whom Zhang promises to send to a virus-free world for childbirth 19.
- Xi Lei and Luo Zhenyi — Medical specialists he consults about infant protection and the feasibility of cross-world childbirth 19.
- The 2012 national leadership — Supplies personnel, laboratories, equipment, and military support in exchange for cooperation toward its population’s evacuation 10 12 31 48.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Establishing Cooperation in *2012*
- Arrives in 2008, four years before the predicted catastrophe. His first attempt to warn Bai Xu ends in detention, though he retains Bai’s phone number and promises to return 1.
- Reappears in the Imperial Capital and directs investigators to monitor a deep Indian copper mine for signs of the approaching disaster 2 4.
- Deliberately allows Bai Xu’s team to discover the newly constructed school, providing evidence that changes their assessment of him 5 6.
- Introduces the Parallel Spacetime Mutual Aid Society and secures the leadership’s agreement to membership under a policy of noninterference 7 9 10.
Preparing the Legend World Expedition
- Obtains KV Vaccine knowledge and materials, then waits for manufacture, testing, and immunization before authorizing entry 11 12 13.
- Prepares a 150-person advance team supported by a reserve force of roughly ten thousand 13.
- Enters Legend World at the Imperial Capital and immediately recognizes that civilization has already collapsed. Orders everyone to remain inside vehicles while specialists test the environment 14.
- Establishes that the local date is October 9, 2010, approximately ten months after the outbreak 16.
Survivor Rescue and the Second Member Nation
- Meets Ding Jingye’s seventeen-person group and learns that newborns almost invariably die from the KV Virus shortly after birth 18.
- Arranges a stopgap solution: move pregnant women to a virus-free world for delivery, then vaccinate their children afterward 19.
- Shelters sixty-two survivors around the Imperial Capital and another thirty-five during the journey north 20.
- Reaches Tong Wenshi’s settlement and negotiates its admission as the Society’s second member nation 21 23.
- Brings Tong and pregnant women into 2012, where disinfection and quarantine prevent the rescue effort from spreading the virus 27.
The Great Migration Project
- Brokers reciprocal aid: 2012 will help eliminate Darkseekers and restore production, while Legend World will shelter refugees and later assist reconstruction 31.
- Proposes disinfected sea transport or enclosed tube trains to reduce infection risks during migration 30.
- Calls for migration infrastructure to be prepared before 2010, with evacuation beginning in 2011 31.
- Leads the return expedition after the volunteer count reaches 9,956, transporting its vehicles and equipment before an overhead satellite can observe the departure 35.
- Returns with supplies and personnel, distributes warm clothing, and briefs both branches on the cooperation agreement 37.
Reclaiming the Imperial Capital
- Leads a five-hundred-person winter expedition to update the national emergency broadcast and clear Darkseekers 39.
- Uses remote-controlled ultraviolet vehicles to clear the broadcast control station without sending personnel inside first, then replaces its recorded message 40 41.
- Directs further clearance and fortification around the transmission station 42.
- Receives a distress call from Hill Emma, Padalka, and Mike aboard the International Space Station and commits the Society to their rescue 42 44.
Antarctic Rescue Mission
- Identifies Antarctica as a possible refuge from the virus. Retrieved records show that 166 personnel were stationed at his counterparts’ three research bases when the outbreak began 44 45.
- Obtains a five-hundred-person aerospace team for satellite restoration and astronaut-rescue work, alongside a nine-ship Antarctic expedition carrying more than ten thousand personnel 45 48.
- Transfers the fleet to waters off South America and sends separate flotillas toward the Antarctic stations 48.
- Joins an armed helicopter reconnaissance flight after No. 1 Station fails to answer radio calls. The discovery of a recently murdered man prompts him to order preparations for combat 49.
