Background / History
Origins and Imperial Position
Modu and Elijah originated on a native planet and rose together to become Domain Lords. The brothers shared life-and-death experiences over hundreds of thousands of years. Elijah became sovereign of the Radiance Empire, while Modu belonged to its imperial family and held Blue Radiance Star as his private territory 35 36 38.
Both brothers operated as slave traders, raising slaves on a massive scale across the empire’s inhabited planets. Their activities caused countless slave deaths and earned them numerous enemies 41.
Investigation of Kaku’s Death
Twelve days after Chu Yuan left Planet GR-2584, Modu arrived to investigate the death of his subordinate Kaku. Using his Intelligent Optical Computer, he determined that a railgun had penetrated Kaku’s D2-class spaceship. He reasoned that someone relying on such an expensive weapon was personally weak and therefore a promising target for robbery 21.
Kaku’s final recording revealed little, but footage from Bagoer’s intelligence showed the Dragon Abyss entering the system. Modu ordered his subordinates to identify the ship and its owner within three months, threatening them with death if they failed. Before departing, he devastated the planet’s entire surface with one punch 21.
Destruction of the First Fleet
Modu pursued his targets from the Radiance Empire into the Xiaohua Empire, crossing millions of light-years. His D5-class spaceship destroyed a C9-class vessel belonging to Chu Yuan’s First Fleet, killing everyone aboard except three Universe Level slaves. He personally killed the two Universe Level 1 survivors, then immobilized the Universe Level 8 warrior Nuodi with his Wind Domain and bisected him 34 35.
After collecting storage rings and bracelets from the bodies and wreckage, Modu obtained treasures worth over 450 billion Universe Coins, approximately thirty times his previous fortune. He failed to find the railgun he had coveted, but considered the haul sufficient to fund his cultivation to Domain Lord Ninth Stage 35.
Aware that his victims might have powerful backing, Modu sent out six groups of decoys. Nevertheless, trackers stored among the stolen possessions allowed Chu Yuan and Feiluan to locate him on Blue Radiance Star before he could sell the treasures 36 37.
Death and Aftermath
Modu was reviewing his spoils inside his island palace when he called Elijah and urged him to visit. During the conversation, Chu Yuan’s D5-class railgun struck the palace. Its D-class alloy walls weakened the blast enough for Modu to survive, though most of his body was destroyed 37.
Modu began regenerating, but Star Pupil No. 1 immediately fired a D9-class laser gun. The follow-up shot annihilated him, leaving his storage ring behind. Xingtong Two recovered the ring, returning the stolen treasures to Chu Yuan 37.
Elijah rushed to Blue Radiance Star and was killed in a second ambush. With both Domain Lords dead, the Radiance Empire lost its principal protectors. Chu Yuan’s forces subsequently attacked its capital and captured more than two thousand members of the brothers’ bloodlines, whom Chu Yuan later killed on Red Earth Star 38 39 40.
The brothers’ descendants collectively numbered in the hundreds of trillions and extended beyond the Black Dragon Mountain Starfield. Chu Yuan declined further captures, recognizing that exterminating them all was impossible. News of the brothers’ deaths spread widely, but the public did not identify the true attacker 41.
Appearance
- Lizardman features: Possesses icy vertical pupils 21.
- Family resemblance: Elijah resembles him by roughly seventy percent 37.
- Combat attire: Keeps his helmet closed throughout the First Fleet massacre, preventing the fleet’s intelligence systems from recording his face 35.
Personality
Modu’s pursuit of Chu Yuan was driven chiefly by greed. Although initially angered by Kaku’s death, he quickly focused on seizing the killer’s expensive railgun. After robbing the First Fleet, he was willing to sell the entire Radiance Empire and flee with Elijah if doing so secured their future cultivation 21 35 37.
He was ruthless toward both enemies and subordinates, threatening investigators with execution and killing fleeing fleet members without hesitation. He nevertheless recognized the danger posed by an unknown backer and used concealment and decoys to delay retaliation 21 34 35 37.
