At this very moment, in the exhibition hall.
The " The Curator," a mechanical construct even taller and more imposing than the Maiden of Virtue, was created by Medivh himself and possesses defensive and offensive capabilities comparable to, or even those of, Stone Giants or metal giants.
Its entire body was covered in blue and white magical runes, radiating a crystalline magical light. Each of its arms and abdomen had a blue Arcane gem, and each gem contained Arcane energy that would put an Archmage to shame. These three Arcane gems served as its energy core, granting it the ability to move freely and a certain degree of intelligence.
Most importantly, it is also a spellcaster, a powerful spellcaster, capable of summoning not only Legendary -level Arcane Missiles, but also "lightning balls" that automatically cast Chain Lightning.
When it went berserk, the entire exhibition hall was enveloped in violent Arcane turbulence and lightning, as if someone were undergoing a tribulation of lightning, with dense electrical currents.
The Arcane turbulence here is so great that it has created countless Mana Aberration, Arcane Anomaly, and Siphoner, which is a huge disturbance, especially for mages.
At least when faced with this level of interference, Med'an's weaknesses were exposed:
Although he possessed Legendary- level power sealed within him, his spellcasting ability didn't even qualify him as an Archmage; he could only be considered a high-level mage. His mastery of magic was insufficient, and he couldn't control such immense power, thus he was unable to quell these Arcane turbulences.
" Med'an, watch closely! See how a mage fights, how a battle mage fights!"
From the very beginning, Meryl kept Med'an at a distance and then began a teaching battle.
"The only ability of Mana Aberration is to create spatial rifts and Arcane Explosion. It is itself an unstable condensation of Arcane energy, and can be destroyed with just simple Arcane interference!"
" Arcane Anomaly are relatively stable condensations of Arcane energy. They can use some very simple spells, such as Arcane Shot Rain, Mana Shield, and Blink. To deal with them, you must cast spells first, using them to disrupt and destroy them!"
" Siphoner aren't energy beings, they're beasts! They devour Arcane energy, going wherever Arcane's plentiful! Their only ability is to drain mana, making them the natural enemy of low-level mages, but also the favorite of high-level mages! Just like Mana Wyrm, we can even restore our own mana by absorbing theirs!"
Two to three hundred Mana Aberration, Arcane Anomaly, and Siphoner combined were wiped out by Meryl in less than three minutes. Arcane Blast, Arcane Missiles, Arcane Shot Rain, and Counterspell —seemingly ordinary spells were used to their fullest potential.
Such combat skills and experience are absolutely not something that academic mages can possess; only dedicated combat mages, such as the Battle Mage Corps of Dalaran, can do it, but no one can do it as well as Meryl.
Having lived for 2800 years, Meryl's combat skills and experience are unmatched by anyone.
He and Aegwynn were the most powerful battle mages in the world, even Medivh couldn't match him in that respect.
" Arcane turbulence is making it difficult for us to cast spells effectively, so let's calm it down first! Watch how I calm the Arcane turbulence!"
He brandished his staff, using his mental power to unravel the chaotic Arcane currents, which were like a tangled ball of yarn. With a single glance, Meryl deciphered the entire mess, then used his mental power to find the end of the thread and swiftly calmed the Arcane currents bit by bit. Step by step, he walked up to the Curator.
" Arcane Barrage, an Evocation spell. The best way to deal with it is with defensive or suppressive spells. This mechanical construct is connected to Karazhan; its mana is inexhaustible, so defense is useless; only suppression is possible! The method is similar to calming the Arcane Turbulence!"
Faced with a veritable Arcane Barrage, Meryl waved his hand, and all the Arcane Missiles vanished. Then he raised his hand, spread his fingers, and pressed them towards the Curator.
A massive magical field pressed down on the Curator, and then with a thud, the seven- or eight-meter-tall the Curator collapsed to the ground, his legs buckling. "Faced with a perpetual motion machine of inexhaustible magical power, you absolutely cannot hold back! Defeat it as quickly as possible! Destroy it with the most powerful spells, or you will be the one who loses!"
Immediately afterwards, a huge fireball, almost half the size of a room, appeared out of thin air, accompanied by a cold snort from Meryl, crashed into the Curator, and then exploded with a bang.
The immense force of the explosion cleared everything around it; even the exhibits in the display windows on both sides fell down with a deafening sound and shattered.
As for the Curator, its surface is covered in scorch marks, and many of the magical runes engraved on it have been destroyed. This Legendary mechanical construct has now lost most of its abilities.
It cannot inscribe runes on its own; unless someone re-inscribes the runes for it, it is already useless!
"Never let your guard down. You never know if the enemy is feigning death or weakness, even if it's a mechanical construct. What you need to do is completely destroy it, take away its most important parts, and make it no longer a threat to you!"
Meryl waved his hand again, and a jet of water descended from the sky, drenching the Curator. Then, as Meryl chanted a spell, the water turned into ice, freezing the Curator solid.
The Curator's body shattered into pieces amidst the extreme heat of ice and fire; the cracks were clearly visible even through the icy surface.
Then even the ice shattered inch by inch.
Meryl reached out and grabbed all three Arcane gems, which flew into his palm and then disappeared with a flick of his wrist.
This poor the Curator was...
It's completely dried out!
Med'an was almost stunned.
" Meryl... you're actually this strong?" Med'an murmured to himself.
He had always known that Meryl was very strong, because any enemy he had encountered since childhood, whether it was a giant bear or a pack of wolves, a scheming adventurer or a ferocious and powerful Ogres, was no match for Meryl.
The enemy was too weak, so Med'an never witnessed Meryl's true strength.
Now he has finally seen it!
The Curator is an absolutely Legendary construct, a masterpiece meticulously crafted by Medivh. It would probably take a small squad of highly skilled professionals to defeat it. If you wanted to overwhelm it with ordinary soldiers, even hundreds of elite soldiers wouldn't be able to do it.
Arcane Barrage and Lightning Storm—no matter how many come, they all die.
Med'an believed that he was no match for it and could only flee in its presence.
But before the truly Legendary mage, Meryl, the so-called Legendary construct was as weak as a child, unable to withstand even a minute of torment, and just like that...
They lost?
This had an unprecedented, soul-stirring impact on Med'an!
This made Med'an realize the vast, unbridgeable gap between himself and Meryl!
"Let's go on, we'll go to the library and find you some magic books." Meryl's voice was as cold as ever.
