The fact that Tirion Fordring, as an ordinary Legendary Paladin, was able to kill the Lich King Arthas, who was stronger than he was now, in Icecrown Citadel was due to a confluence of favorable factors:
Arthas's heart was destroyed, weakening his power;
The remaining conscience within Arthas weakened his power;
Arthas never took the Crusade seriously and underestimated them;
