Chapter Summaries

Azeroth’s races and the four great Dragonflights gathered at the Scarab Wall with an elite force to face the Qiraji. Jiang Jie gave Shiroma the Scepter of the Shifting Sands, and she struck the Scarab Gong, beginning the wall’s destruction and the coming battle.

• The Zandalari Trolls, Forsaken, Horde, Alliance, other races, and four great Dragonflights assembled near the Scarab Wall with more than thirty thousand fighters.
• Jiang Jie and Shiroma stood before the gathered leaders as they waited to see who would sound the Scarab Gong.
• Shiroma recalled the War of the Shifting Sands and her thousand years guarding the wall, while Jiang Jie stepped aside out of respect for her sacrifice.
• After her memories ended, Shiroma accepted the Scepter of the Shifting Sands from Jiang Jie.
• Shiroma climbed to the gong and struck it with the scepter.

The Scarab Wall collapsed, exposing the Qiraji to the allied forces, while Prince Thunderaan’s wind elementals devastated their ranks with a surprise tornado. Jiang Jie then led the start of the decisive battle, as the allies launched attacks across the Ruins of Ahn'Qiraj and sent strike teams against enemy commanders and the Temple of Ahn'Qiraj.

• The Scarab Wall collapsed, and the allied commanders ordered their forces to prepare as the Qiraji swarms emerged.
• Jiang Jie told the allied forces to hold position until Prince Thunderaan and his wind elementals swept through the Qiraji with a massive tornado, killing more than a hundred thousand insects before retreating.
• Jiang Jie declared the decisive battle underway, and the allied forces attacked the scattered Qiraji across the vast Ruins of Ahn'Qiraj.
• Tsul'Kalu, Ursol, Ursoc, and the allied armies fought the Anubisath and other Qiraji while mages, dragons, and holy warriors joined the battle.

Jiang Jie and four allies entered the Temple of Ahn'Qiraj to kill the Qiraji leaders before the insects could threaten the wider world. After defeating Prophet Skeram and resisting C'Thun's illusions, they descended into the temple, where Uther stayed behind to destroy and purify the Qiraji eggs.

Jiang Jie and his companions fought through the Qiraji to reach the Twin Emperors, the powerful rulers of Ahn'Qiraj. The emperors rose to face the intruders, confident that C'Thun's power made them unbeatable.

• Jiang Jie persuaded Uther to leave the insect eggs for later, and the group defeated Princess Yauj and her companions before clearing the chamber of insects.
• Jiang Jie led the others toward the Twin Emperors' hall, following the darkness Malfurion sensed.
• The group entered the temple and saw the Twin Emperors, Vek'nilash and Vek'lor, seated among dragon bones.
• The Twin Emperors discussed their strength, the past war, and the battles involving Al'Akir and Thunderaan before rising to attack the intruders.

Jiang Jie left the Twin Emperors to confront C'Thun while his companions fought the emperors, Ouro, and the Qiraji forces. C'Thun trapped Jiang Jie in a powerful mental world, but he reached a nearby side hall to rescue three ancient dragons imprisoned there.

• Malfurion realized that deaths across Ahn'Qiraj fueled a ritual to free C'Thun, and the Twin Emperors revealed that the battle's sacrifices would break the Titan prison.
• Jiang Jie told his companions to fight the Twin Emperors while he went to deal with C'Thun.
• Old Chen attacked the Physical Emperor, Uther engaged the Magic Emperor, Malfurion confronted Ouro, and Tyrande defended the hall against the incoming Qiraji forces.

Jiang Jie freed Arygos, Merithra, and Korialstrasz from C'Thun's imprisonment and learned that C'Thun could only be contained by destroying his escaped portion and repairing the Titan prison. With Anveena able to act as a Titan Keeper, Jiang Jie headed toward C'Thun's temple to confront him.

• Arygos despaired as C'Thun's influence held him and the other ancient dragons captive, until Jiang Jie appeared in C'Thun's mental world.
• Merithra recognized that Jiang Jie carried the blessings of Ysera and the Wild Gods, and Jiang Jie introduced himself before breaking all three dragons' binding rings with Holy Light.
• Korialstrasz sensed the many different powers within Jiang Jie, and Arygos explained that C'Thun could not be killed but his escaped portion could be destroyed while the Titan prison was reinforced.
• Jiang Jie called on Anveena, who revealed that she had sensed Archaedas and Ironaya's underground prison and had inherited Ironaya's authority and power.
• Anveena prepared to repair the Titan prison while Jiang Jie went to destroy the part of C'Thun that had escaped.

Jiang Jie fought C'Thun’s freed eye in the Titan prison, using his own powers and elemental allies to destroy it. C'Thun then revealed a miniature avatar of himself inside his body, beginning the battle’s second phase.

• C'Thun attacked Jiang Jie with tentacles and death rays, but Jiang Jie blocked the rays with Black Tortoise Armor Gang Qi reinforced by Holy Light.
• Jiang Jie summoned Dafeng, Shui, Wugou, and Huo, whose elemental attacks destroyed tentacles and damaged C'Thun’s eye.
• Jiang Jie combined earth, fire, water, and wind in a punch that shattered the Eye of C'Thun.

Jiang Jie struggled to survive inside C'Thun while T'uure's fragment merged with the Light and Shadow Taiji, transforming into a powerful new form. As Jiang Jie faced the beginning of C'Thun's hunt in its mental world, the transformed Taiji kept his body safe from the Old God's forces.

Jiang Jie’s soul grew to Demigod strength inside C’Thun’s mental world and returned to his body, but he remained trapped inside C’Thun. He reached Anveena outside the Titan prison, and she offered to punch a passage through C’Thun so he could escape.

• Jiang Jie endured a month of attacks from Aqir and Faceless Ones, learning spiritual combat and strengthening his soul until it reached the Demigod realm.
• Jiang Jie broke free of C’Thun’s mental world and returned to his body, then realized he could survive but had no way to escape C’Thun’s body.
• Jiang Jie used Soul Dragon Roaming to reach the top of the Titan prison and found Anveena repairing it.

Jiang Jie escaped C’Thun with Anveena’s help, then left her to repair the Titans Prison while he departed with three ancient dragons. Three months earlier, the world had mourned Jiang Jie as missing, but a search led by a half-elf woman ended when she found him alive at the Temple of Ahn’Qiraj.

Kazzak led his demons through the reopened Dark Portal, believing he would conquer Outland, but found Illidan waiting for him. Meanwhile, the major powers gathered in Stormwind to discuss the portal’s consequences, and Jiang Jie was summoned to attend for Queen Calia.

• Kazzak opened the Dark Portal and led his demons into Outland, planning to become its ruler and summon reinforcements.
• Kazzak realized the demons in Hellfire Peninsula were watching him rather than welcoming him, then saw Illidan waiting above the portal.

Jiang Jie and the leaders of Azeroth investigated why Doom Lord Kazzak and his demons had vanished through the Dark Portal, discovering that Arcane Magic had sealed it. Jiang Jie identified Illidan as the likely caster and led the leaders to the portal to negotiate, where he asked Illidan what he wanted.

• King Varian convened a meeting after Nethergarde Keep reported that Kazzak and five thousand demons had entered the Dark Portal and never returned.
• Mathias Shaw and Rhonin explained that a powerful Arcane force field sealed the portal and could not be broken by Dalaran's mages.
• Jiang Jie questioned whether Illidan had cast the spell, and Malfurion confirmed that Illidan was his younger brother.

• Admiral Daelin demanded that Nicholas seize Altruis, but Jiang Jie accepted the Eye of Shadow and asked why Illidan had sent him.
• Altruis said Illidan had a secret plan to strike the Burning Legion and demanded that Azeroth’s leaders come to Outland without soldiers and pay a sufficient price for passage.
• Admiral Daelin refused to negotiate at the Dark Portal and demanded that Illidan come to Azeroth, while Altruis insisted Illidan held the initiative.
