Can't you just behave?

"Yu Han, where are you..."

"Ah!" I felt someone shove me from behind.

My phone was knocked right out of my hand.

A group of coworkers streamed in.

They all seemed to be heading to the cafeteria.

For a moment, I couldn't tell who had knocked my phone away, so I could only chalk it up to bad luck.

I picked up my phone and found that it had shut itself off, and the screen was cracked.

I looked helplessly at my phone, remembering Gu Hansheng's voice just now. He had sounded furious!

He was the one who had dumped me on the roadside this morning. What did he have to be angry about?

I pressed the phone's buttons a couple of times, found that it wouldn't turn on, and put it in my pocket.

I arrived at the company cafeteria. The selection was plentiful.

I chose two dishes and a serving of rice, then found an empty table.

I had just sat down when Qiao Na came over with her tray and sat down too.

She smiled at me. "You don't mind, do you? There aren't any seats elsewhere."

"No."

"How is it going? Has your first day been smooth?" Qiao Na asked as she ate.

I sighed. "It's been okay."

She seemed to have known I would sigh and smiled softly. "It's like this for everyone when they first arrive. It'll get better once you've settled into the company and learned the workflow."

I ate and chatted with Qiao Na on and off.

That afternoon, I wasn't targeted again. I spent the whole time reading the project materials.

After work, I put the materials in my bag, planning to take them home and keep reading, while thinking I needed to hurry and find somewhere to get my phone repaired.

The repair took a while, and I went out for a meal in the meantime, so I wasn't very hungry.

By the time my phone was fixed, it was already dark. After I turned it on, it kept vibrating, and more than a dozen missed calls popped up.

My heart sank as I looked at that number.

They were definitely all from Gu Hansheng.

My hands trembled a little. When I opened the call log, sure enough, every call was from Gu Hansheng.

I could only pray that Gu Hansheng hadn't gone home today.

As soon as I got out of the taxi, I saw that the villa was pitch-black.

I checked the time. It was a little late, but surely it wasn't so late that Auntie Zhang and the others had all gone to bed?

Puzzled, I opened the door and went inside. I turned on the light in the entryway, then jumped as soon as I walked into the living room.

Gu Hansheng was sitting on the sofa. Even before I saw his expression, I could feel the icy chill and oppressive atmosphere surrounding him.

He was this furious because I hadn't answered all those calls.

I thought it might be better if I offered an explanation first.

"When I was answering your call at noon today, a coworker bumped into me as I was getting into the elevator, and my phone fell and broke. I just went to get it repaired. That's why I'm a little late getting home."

He said nothing, only stared at me darkly, his gaze so cold that a chill ran down my spine.

"This morning, when you called the first time, I was a little angry because you'd left me on the roadside, so I didn't answer out of spite. Then I got a little busy because it was my first day at work, and I never had a chance to answer."

He still said nothing, only watched me with a cold, vicious gaze.

"At noon, I was just about to answer when my phone got knocked out of my hand."

"Knocked out of your hand? What a coincidence." He gave an icy laugh.

I couldn't help shuddering.

"It really was a coincidence." I paused, pulled up the payment record for the phone repair, and walked over to show him, wanting to prove that my phone really had broken.

But the moment I held the phone in front of him, he stood up and seized my wrist, gripping it hard.

Pain shot through me, my hand went limp, and the phone fell straight to the floor.

It seemed to have cracked again.

I wasn't some wealthy young lady anymore. Where would I get spare money for a new phone?

I was about to lose my temper, but the sight of his dark expression made me swallow my words.

"My phone really was broken."

"Was your phone broken, or did some man hook you?" he said through gritted teeth. "Yu Han, can't you just behave? Do you have to seduce men to get by?"

His words came out of nowhere, leaving me stunned. "What do you mean?"

"You don't understand what I mean? Why are you playing dumb?" He glared at me as though he wanted to swallow me alive.

I admitted that I was afraid of him now. I could have let other insults pass, but I truly couldn't stomach him accusing me of seducing men over and over.

"That's enough! What? In your eyes, am I the kind of woman who'll sleep with any man?"

I had had enough of his suspicions. I had already fallen in love with him, yet he still suspected me like this!

His eyes were icy, but a sneer curled his lips. "You certainly make yourself sound pure and noble."

"I'm telling the truth. You suspect me of seducing someone every day. What, do you have a persecution complex? Me, seducing men? If I were seducing men, would I have sunk so low as to become your mistress?"

"One day at work, and you don't want to be my mistress anymore?" He tightened his grip on my hand and dragged me upstairs.

I stumbled along, unable to break free, and could only let him drag me into the bedroom.

Once inside, he held my hand and flung me toward the bed. I fell straight onto it.

I tried to get up, but he planted his hands beside my ears and looked down at me from above.

I was truly frightened. His gaze was far too cold.

I didn't understand why merely going to work had made him suspect me of seducing someone.

Just as I was puzzling over it, he said coldly, "What? What did Gu Mingze say to you?"
