To rescue Mrs. Larry, the most important thing is to first understand the situation on the island and the strength of the savages. Just how strong was the old man the Boss Coal encountered? How exactly was the Mental Power Field on the island formed? If these questions aren't answered, even leaving the island might be a problem, let alone rescuing anyone.
Qingmu came to the South Pacific hoping to meet Cohen face-to-face, but before he could even encounter any of the Dream Society's henchmen, he found himself in a survival crisis on a deserted island.
"Let's analyze this further," Su Huilan said. " The Mental Power Field here is dynamic, so this Klein Bottle has the ability to self-repair. When we disperse the energy field, the mental vacuum we isolated reverts to the two-dimensional plane of a Möbius strip, while the area outside the isolation zone remains a three-dimensional world... The larger the isolated mental vacuum space, the larger the gap in this Klein Bottle, and the less likely it is to self-repair."
Qingmu said, "Are you saying that if we push away all the Mental Power on the island, it will disappear? That's too difficult. You just tried it, and it's impossible. Even if the two of us combined our efforts, we might not be able to create a space the size of a playground, and this island might be thirty or forty square kilometers in area, and there could very well be more than one island."
Su Huilan said, "No, there's no need for that. Think carefully about how we got in. It was when the fog rolled in, right? So when the fog rolled in, the Klein Bottle must have been torn apart by some force. If we can find the gap when the fog rolled in, we can completely destroy this force field. Then, maybe all the problems will be solved!"
Qingmu felt it wasn't as simple as Su Huilan had described, but it was indeed a good method. However, finding the gap or the spatial rift would be difficult. First, they had to wait for the fog to rise, and then use their Mental Power to explore every inch of the island.
"Alright, let's wait for the Boss Coal to come back tomorrow, and then we'll work together to complete this arduous task, provided that it's foggy tomorrow," he said.
Su Huilan agreed, explaining that some areas could only be scouted by Crow, and the fog on the island didn't last long, making it impossible to traverse the entire island on foot in such a short time.
"So what do we do now?" Su Huilan asked Qingmu, having unconsciously relinquished control of the planning and decision-making.
Qingmu said, "Just like before, I'll break through the island's Mental Power Field, and you try to hypnotize that savage. If it works, we'll have to cooperate long-term. We don't even know how many savages are on this island."
Su Huilan then remembered that Qingmu had used his Mental Power to fight against the island's Mental Power Field in order to make room to hypnotize the savages, but because of the accidental discovery, they had spent a long time discussing the Klein Bottle issue, and she couldn't help but chuckle.
"Don't forget, if the hypnosis is successful, we need to figure out two things: first, is this antidote correct, and how do we use it? Second, where is their hideout, and how many people are there?" Qingmu added.
"Aren't you coming in after the hypnosis?" Su Huilan asked.
"This Mental Power Field is strange; I don't want to be distracted," Qingmu said.
Having already experienced the immense counterattack, Su Huilan said no more, walked to the savage's side, and prepared to hypnotize him.
The savage on the ground wasn't unconscious; he'd just been kicked twice by Qingmu and was seriously injured. His broken bones prevented him from moving, so he could only stare fiercely at the two strangers who were babbling in a language he couldn't understand.
The savage's eyes revealed a deep-seated hatred; if looks could kill, Su Huilan and Qingmu would have been dead countless times by now.
Su Huilan felt a chill run down her spine. These savages were the ones who ate raw meat and drank blood, killed and ate people, and even defiled Mrs. Larry!
Perhaps to these islanders, whom they call savages, they are the true invaders!
At this moment, Qingmu's Mental Power had already spread out. This time, he didn't open the space too wide, only enveloping Su Huilan and the savage.
Su Huilan initially had some doubts about whether she could successfully hypnotize the wild man, but after trying it, she was surprisingly successful.
When the island's Mental Power Field was separated by Qingmu, the savages' consciousness seemed to be greatly affected, as if they were fish in the water suddenly pulled onto land and panicked.
Whether it was the severe injuries that weakened his willpower, or the loss of his Mental Power Field that caused his consciousness to completely give up the fight, Su Huilan didn't even need to use her signature Fragrant Hypnosis to lull the savage into a dream.
She saw a savage paddling a canoe on a large lake, holding a harpoon in his hand, his eyes darting furtively across the water. A moment later, a faint blue shadow appeared on the surface. The savage, quick as lightning, thrust his harpoon forward, and a large fish was caught.
The fish was huge, taller than a person, and kept wriggling after being speared, but the savage remained as still as a mountain god standing on the mountain.
Su Huilan knew this was an exaggeration from a dream; in reality, such a large fish couldn't be caught by a single person using a harpoon. But this at least showed that fishing was one of the islanders' means of survival, and that they fished in this very lake.
If the Klein Bottle theory holds true, then this lake is actually connected to the sea, or is part of the sea, so it's not surprising that there are large fish in the lake, given the abundance of fish there.
But a lake is still a lake, and its area is limited. Therefore, the struggle for the lake's resources is likely the main reason for the battles between different islands and tribes. As for how many islands there are in this area, even the savages on the islands themselves probably don't know.
Su Huilan's primary task is to find out whether the herbs Qingmu brought back are the antidote and how to use them. Although it is possible to use powerful Mental Power to directly manipulate the dreamer's subconscious to search for memories in a dream, this is extremely taxing and can easily provoke resistance. Moreover, the amount of information in a person's memory is enormous, and it is very difficult to find what you want from a disordered information database. Therefore, the best way is to guide the dreamer and bring out the relevant information through the memory chain.
With a thought, Su Huilan produced an arrow in her hand, its arrowhead made from the white and blue seashells she had stepped on in the stream, only the seashells were now stained red.
The arrow, propelled by her Mental Power, flew with an exaggerated whistling sound, striking the savage spearman on the boat squarely in the ribs—the very spot where Qingmu had broken his ribs.
The savage was struck by an arrow, and the dream immediately changed, transforming into a battlefield strewn with corpses. He sat amidst the carcasses, pulled the arrowhead from his side, and black blood gushed out.
He struggled to his feet and staggered forward. Ahead stood a large, crimson tree, its base covered in wild grass with some inconspicuous white wildflowers among them.
The savage uprooted the small flower, first stuffing the petals into his mouth and swallowing them, then chewing the stems and leaves and spitting them out to apply to the wound. The black patch on his chest faded visibly, quickly returning to normal.
A distant howling sound rang out, and the savage smiled, standing up and walking towards a high mountain. He arrived at a flat canyon at the foot of the mountain, where a vertical waterfall cascaded down the mountain and converged into a river in the canyon. Along the riverbanks were many wooden houses, with wisps of smoke rising from their chimneys.
Su Huilan knew that was the savage tribe.
To her surprise, the river led all the way to the lake where the savages had just been fishing, but the river did not flow from the canyon into the lake; instead, it flowed back from the lake into the canyon.
Upon closer inspection, the waterfall on the mountain actually flows upwards, and above the waterfall lies a large, misty lake.
