Background

Jiang Chao comes from a wealthy family that has operated a building materials business for more than a decade. Most of its factories are in the East City High-Tech Industrial Park. Unlike Lin Hao, Jiang Chao can fall back on inheriting the family business if he fails to enter a martial arts university 1 3 28.

He and Lin Hao have been deskmates for three years. Before Lin Hao’s industrial park security appointment, Jiang Chao had already offered him an easy job in his family’s company 3 6.

Personality

Jiang Chao is outspoken, hot-tempered, and quick to defend his friends. He prepares to confront Bai Cheng for insulting Lin Hao and later openly challenges school officials who pressure Lin Hao to abandon the Martial Artist Examination. Despite his impulsiveness, he listens when Lin Hao restrains him 3 4 29 30.

He vows to report both the teacher and the school, but loses momentum when Lin Hao questions whether the Martial Arts Bureau is truly unaware 1.

When Bai Cheng challenges either friend to spar, Jiang Chao volunteers and warns Lin Hao that Bai Cheng may injure him before the examination. Lin Hao takes the match instead. After celebrating his victory, Jiang Chao notices his increased appetite and gives him 20,000 yuan for tonics while encouraging his goal of entering Capital Martial University 4 5 6.

Xia Zhi and the Shadow Mimic Spiders

Jiang Chao invites Lin Hao to Spirit Charm Restaurant to meet Xia Zhi and help assess her character. On the way, he explains the upcoming Six-City Young Pharmacists Competition and its pharmacy-apprentice certificate requirement, prompting Lin Hao to consider investigating it 6 9.

At dinner, Jiang Chao remains unaware that Xia Zhi is secretly approaching Lin Hao. The meal costs 32,700 yuan, requiring him to leave temporarily to obtain money. He returns, pays, and departs with Xia Zhi and Su Xiaoran 10 11.

Offering Lin Hao a New Livelihood

Believing Lin Hao has been expelled and lost his employment prospects, Jiang Chao asks his father to investigate Zhao Man. After learning that her father is a deputy director at the General Bureau and that his family cannot intervene, he offers Lin Hao a warehouse administrator position paying 20,000 yuan monthly, with social insurance, a housing fund, and a planned promotion 40.

Lin Hao instead sends him a photograph of his new One-Star Martial Artist certificate and badge. Jiang Chao responds with exuberant congratulations and tries to arrange a celebration, eventually accepting Lin Hao’s insistence on paying for dinner 40.
