The fierce sounds of battle still rang in his ears. For a moment, Sergeant Daniel almost thought he had misheard.
"You said take them out?"
He even reached out and felt Mu Fan's forehead. "Recruit, are you sure you don't have a fever? If Mechanical Experts were that easy to kill, would we have lost so many men?"
"The 27th Infantry Company now has less than half its original numbers. I can tell you that fewer than a fifth died to direct artillery fire. More than half of the rest were killed by these damned Mechanical Experts."
The more Daniel spoke, the angrier he became, until he laughed bitterly at his own words. Saying something so unrealistic at a time like this—the recruit's intentions were good, but reality was cruel.
The cunning Mechanical Experts were protected behind layer upon layer of defenses. Behind those Mechanical Spiders, there were surely other defensive measures waiting, such as Mechanical Moths and Bomb Umbrella Fungi.

Daniel found the explosions behind him far too frequent. Irritated by the noise, he fired a grenade round over his shoulder, and the dense gunfire paused for a moment.
Only then did he look seriously at Mu Fan as well. "Recruit, I can tell you this: if those Mechanical Experts die, we can wipe out this entire invasion force. That has never happened in the past three months of nighttime operations, but it's simply impossible."
"I understand." Mu Fan seemed to mutter as he thought.
"It's good that you understand. Just stay put... wait, what are you doing?!" Sergeant Daniel suddenly jolted in alarm.
Mu Fan spun the Pulse Handgun
