Background

Mu Fan was found as an infant behind a trash can by scavengers. Two tags accompanied him: a wooden tag engraved with Mu and a black metal tag engraved with Fan; his adoptive father combined them into the name “Mu Fan.” His adoptive parents were killed in a star pirate attack when he was ten, leaving him to survive through manual labor, restaurant work, deliveries, and scavenging. 2

His early life on Luoqie Star gave him unusual endurance, an enormous appetite, and a practical view of survival. He began pursuing martial training and mecha combat after meeting Harry, initially taking paid daily sparring sessions because he needed money. 11 15

Mu Tianhua later identified Mu Fan’s mother as Mu Linling, explaining that the Mu tag he had always worn was her clan plaque. Mu Fan learned that his father was still alive, resolving one of the central mysteries of his past. 1649
