Background / History
Childhood with the Qin Family
Lu Chiyan’s father and Qin Sili’s father were close friends who died in the same car accident. Lu Chiyan was twelve and in sixth grade when he learned of the accident. After he spent two days at the hospital, sixteen-year-old Qin Sili brought him into the Qin household. They have neither a biological nor a legal sibling relationship 1 31.
Qin Sili arranged for them to attend the same school so he could look after Lu Chiyan. During the summer after Lu Chiyan’s first year of middle school, an unreliable agency scammed a camp he had secretly joined with classmates. He called Qin Sili in the middle of the night, dramatically claiming that he was about to be sold into the mountains 31.
In his final year of middle school, Lu Chiyan suffered a fever approaching 40°C for three days. Qin Sili stayed beside him throughout the illness. Once he began recovering, Lu Chiyan asked for food cooked by Qin Sili rather than the household chefs 74.
First Awakening and Replacement
After entering university, Lu Chiyan awakened to his own consciousness and refused the romance prescribed for him and Duan Linfeng. He rejected Duan Linfeng’s WeChat request and dinner invitation, preferring to return home to Qin Sili. When Little I arranged a confrontation with thugs so Duan Linfeng could rescue him, Lu Chiyan called Qin Sili instead 213 214.
Little I, the administrator responsible for maintaining the novel’s plot, discovered that Lu Chiyan loved Qin Sili and could no longer be controlled. It imprisoned his consciousness and created a puppet replacement. The puppet pursued Duan Linfeng and alienated Qin Sili while the real Lu Chiyan could only watch 214.
Appearance
- Face and skin: Described as having a pretty face and soft, tender skin 1.
- Eyes: Large, clear, and fawn-like; his expressive gaze frequently accompanies his pleading or teasing 4.
- Build: Slim-waisted with defined abdominal muscles, despite his dislike of exercise 53 86.
- Snow White costume: His styled appearance is sufficiently striking that Pei Zeyan briefly fails to recognize him 121.
Personality
Lu Chiyan is outspoken, sarcastic, and unwilling to accommodate people who mistreat him. After regaining control of himself, he blocks Duan Linfeng across his accounts, rejects his attempts at reconciliation, and openly calls him “trash” during a livestream. He also answers professional condescension with pointed mockery rather than quietly accepting it 4 7 103 141.
With Qin Sili, he is affectionate, playful, and easily flustered. His initial determination to become the “world’s best little brother” clashes with his attraction to Qin Sili, which he takes time to recognize. Even when Qin Sili explicitly points out their different surnames, Lu Chiyan misses the intended reminder that they are not brothers 4 62 86.
He prefers sleeping and lying around to strenuous activity, but he can organize a group when necessary. Assigned responsibility for the variety-show household, he divides earning money, shopping, and cooking among the guests. He also accepts a swimming challenge after learning that success would secure a charitable donation 40 52 53.
His concern for others extends beyond Qin Sili. He challenges Pei Zeyan to examine his assumptions about attraction, publicly supports Pei Zeyan and Wen Zhao, and treats visiting fans to a celebratory meal. After the world awakens, he particularly values everyone’s ability to make independent choices and experience genuine emotions 190 202 264.
Abilities & Skills
Awakening and Resistance to the Plot
- Independent consciousness: His awakening gives him thoughts and feelings outside the prescribed storyline, preventing Little I from directly controlling him 214.
- Reclaiming his body: A second awakening allows him to overcome his initial imprisonment and displace the puppet, although he loses memories in the process 214.
- Memory recovery: He eventually remembers his true identity and recognizes that his supposed transmigration never occurred 211 213 214.
- Limits: Awakening does not make him immune to imprisonment. Little I confines him again after arranging a car accident 214 215.
Connection with Qin Sili
- Qin Sili can hear Lu Chiyan’s unspoken thoughts, beginning with their encounter outside the hotel 1 4.
- During Lu Chiyan’s later imprisonment, his thoughts contradict the puppet’s hostile speech, allowing Qin Sili to recognize that the person he loves is still present 205.
- This connection is not uninterrupted: Lu Chiyan eventually loses access to outside sights and sounds while confined 219.
Acting and Performance
- Built his early reputation through two acting productions before the events of the main story 5 21.
- Performs as Snow White opposite Qin Sili’s Prince Charming 84 85 121.
- Plays Jiang Xun, the second male lead in Strange Tales of Luo City, including an overnight fight-scene shoot with Wen Zhao 141 174.
- Sings for fans at a celebration after filming wraps 264.
Practical Skills and Limitations
- Household coordination: Assigns guests to earn money, purchase groceries, and prepare meals; later organizes a group barbecue 40 63.
- Swimming: Begins unable to swim and subsequently learns, but overestimates his endurance. A cramp during his second lap causes him to sink, requiring Qin Sili to rescue him 52 53 57.
- Cooking: Openly admits that he cannot cook reliably. His attempts include an enormous vegetable salad and extremely sour juice; Qin Sili remains wary when he later prepares steaks 13 40 257.
Equipment / Items

- Protection talisman — A triangular paper charm supplied by a mystic invited to the filming set. Lu Chiyan wears it on a red cord despite his usual skepticism; its supernatural effectiveness is not established 257.
Relationships
- Qin Sili — Childhood caretaker and eventual boyfriend, four years his senior. Qin Sili establishes Yanli Film and Television to protect his entertainment career, initially concealing his ownership through Nan Yi. Their relationship develops from renewed closeness into an acknowledged romance 18 31 96 127.
- Duan Linfeng — Ex-boyfriend associated with the puppet-controlled period. After reclaiming himself, Lu Chiyan rejects him and refuses to resume the relationship. His earlier devotion was imposed by Little I, not the real Lu Chiyan’s freely chosen affection 4 103 214.
- Qian Le — Manager and assistant. She coordinates his work, handles the formalwear controversy, and supports his renewed attention to his career 4 16 25.
- Pei Zeyan — Friend and frequent target of his teasing. Lu Chiyan questions his insistence that he must be straight and encourages him to reconsider his feelings for Wen Zhao 93 190 202.

Story Role / Major Arcs
Escape and Rejection of the Script
At the opening, Lu Chiyan believes he has transmigrated into a novel. Drugged and facing an attempted sexual assault arranged by Duan Linfeng, he remembers the script’s intended outcome: assault, a ruined career, depression, and suicide. He fights off the attacker, escapes the hotel, and climbs into Qin Sili’s car 1.
He reinterprets the supposed “villain” as his protector, returns to the Qin residence, and cuts Duan Linfeng off. His sudden warmth surprises Qin Sili, who begins hearing his thoughts 1 3 4.
Livestream Exposure and Career Revival
- On We Live Together, he refuses to reconcile with Duan Linfeng and identifies Jiang Zhinian as his ex-boyfriend’s other partner. A recording exposes Jiang Zhinian’s abusive private behavior 6 7 8 9.
- The resulting attention brings invitations from seven variety shows and interest from two productions. At the same time, he discovers that his bank balance is only 0.81 after his earlier spending on Duan Linfeng 16.
- When accused of stealing Zhou Zhicheng’s formalwear, he is cleared by Yanli Entertainment’s reservation records, payment evidence, and studio surveillance footage 24 25.
- During a later villa-based variety program, he serves as household manager and enters a sleeping contest with Qin Sili to help fund the guests’ meals 40 43.
Romance with Qin Sili
Lu Chiyan’s attachment becomes increasingly romantic, although he initially continues treating Qin Sili as his older brother. After Qin Sili rescues him from drowning, he mistakes mouth-to-mouth resuscitation for a stolen kiss and is disappointed by the explanation 57.
His jealousy and attraction become harder to dismiss. He eventually asks Qin Sili directly whether he likes him, receives an immediate affirmation, and kisses him. By the end of the variety-show period, he openly calls Qin Sili his boyfriend; afterward, he moves his belongings into Qin Sili’s room 79 86 92 96 127 137 139.

Recovery of His Identity
After Little I arranges another car accident and imprisons him, Lu Chiyan watches a replacement inhabit his body. Qin Sili hears the real Lu Chiyan protesting beneath the puppet’s hostile words and realizes that they are not the same consciousness 205 214.
Unable to remember any supposed life before transmigration, Lu Chiyan begins questioning his identity. His memories return, revealing that he has always belonged to this world. Electrotherapy administered to his body subsequently cracks the barrier around his prison, and he returns to Qin Sili 211 213 214 220 221.
System Interference and Liberation
Little I continues interfering with their relationship. After Qin Sili chokes Lu Chiyan, he cuts his own arm in fear of hurting him again. Lu Chiyan stops the bleeding and calls Wen Shubai; Little I admits responsibility for Qin Sili’s actions 226 227.
The system also rewrites Qin Sili’s understanding of their relationship so that he insists they are only brothers. Lu Chiyan recognizes the alteration rather than accepting it as Qin Sili’s genuine choice 230.
Qin Sili ultimately awakens and remembers the story and system. They agree to face the danger together. In the finale, Lu Chiyan senses that everyone has awakened and that the system is gone, leaving the world’s inhabitants free to live beyond their assigned roles 256 263.
