"Wancheng's back." As soon as he returned to camp, Xu Xiashi greeted him.
Seeing the coconut crabs he was carrying, she covered her mouth in shock. "What huge crabs!"
Gu Wancheng set the coconut crabs down. "They're coconut crabs. We found them while looking for coconuts."
Xu Xiashi took the basket he had set down. Whoa, so many coconuts. Watching him rub his shoulder uncomfortably, she said, "Go get some rest. I'll carry these over for you."
After saying that, she shook her head a little guiltily. "Actually, Mi Tu and I found fresh water before we'd gone very far. I didn't know when you'd be back, and I don't know what's edible, so I fetched water for everyone."
"You've already done a great job, Xiashi," Gu Wancheng said.
[Exactly. It's not like she did nothing.]
Chaochao put the coconut in his arms into the basket, still carrying the basket of wild blueberries in his hand. "Auntie Xu, where's Mi Tu? I want to treat her to some blueberries."
"You found blueberries too!" There was a hint of pleasant surprise in Xu Xiashi's voice.
Mi Tu loved blueberries most. Wild blueberries should be pretty much the same, right?
Gu Wancheng nodded. "They're not far away. We can pick more next time."
"Thank you, Chaochao. Mi Tu's in the room. I'll call her out in a little while." As she spoke, she patted Chaochao's head.
Although four coconuts weren't many, they were big, which made them quite heavy. After carrying them all the way back, Gu Wancheng felt as though his shoulders were about to give out.
He put away the coconuts and coconut crabs with Xu Xiashi. Mi Tu had come over too and was squatting with Chaochao, looking at the tied-up coconut crabs.
Their two little heads were huddled together, unbearably cute.
"I asked them. We have to trade things with them for cooking pots."
Gu Wancheng nodded calmly. He already knew.
Xu Xiashi sighed softly and frowned. "Chen Liqing really has no decency."
Chen Liqing's face darkened when he heard that. "..."
[Director Chen deserves ten thousand deaths.]
[Watching her makes my heart ache.]
[Sure enough, Director Chen deserves ten thousand deaths.]
Chen Liqing glared at the bullet comments, bristling his beard-though he had no beard.
The staff snickered nearby, immediately composing themselves when he looked over, afraid of being caught.
Gu Wancheng washed some blueberries and brought them to Mi Tu.
Mi Tu shyly accepted them, her soft little voice ringing out. "Thank you, Uncle Gu."
Gu Wancheng rubbed her head and said gently, "You're welcome. Go ahead and eat."
Suddenly sensing someone watching him, Gu Wancheng looked over. Chaochao stood with his arms crossed, staring huffily at the hand resting on Mi Tu's head.
When he saw him look over, Chaochao turned his face away in displeasure and gave a loud huff.
Mi Tu asked in confusion, "What's wrong with Chaochao?"
Gu Wancheng silently withdrew his hand. His little cub was quite possessive.
"He's fine. He'll be all right in a minute."
Hearing that, Chaochao whipped his head around, his eyes blazing. Couldn't he tell I'm angry? Why isn't he coming to coax me?
[Chaochao's about to explode, hahaha.]
[Chaochao: How could you pat another kid? Am I not your one and only anymore?]
Seeing Gu Wancheng actually leave without even looking back, Chaochao was stunned. Is he really not going to coax me? I'm so easy to coax.
Chaochao: puffing up like a pufferfish in anger...
"Chaochao, have some blueberries." Mi Tu held out the blueberries in her hands, inviting him to eat.
Looking at the blueberries, still beaded with water, they seemed so appetizing. Chaochao swallowed and rubbed his belly with a woeful expression. He couldn't eat any more.
No, I can't let Mi Tu know I ate all by myself outside. Good children share. With determination in his eyes, Chaochao refused.
"You like them, so have more."
Mi Tu looked at him with tearful eyes, deeply touched, and decided to split them equally with Chaochao. But he still refused, so she could only eat them herself, silently resolving to share any delicious food she got with Chaochao in the future.
[Silly child, Chaochao's already full. His belly is stuffed with blueberry corpses.]
[If I didn't know the truth, I really would've thought Chaochao turned down Mi Tu's offer because she loved them.]
[Huh? Isn't that why?]
[Chaochao already ate his fill while picking blueberries.]
Gu Wancheng was truly exhausted. All he wanted was to lie down and rest properly, and he was starting to regret joining the show.
He had barely dozed off when a commotion broke out outside. The next second, Chaochao ran in. "Daddy, Uncle Zhao and the others are back."
Gu Wancheng blinked to show that he had heard.
Chaochao tilted his head and reached out to feel his forehead.
Feeling the chubby little hand on his forehead, Gu Wancheng asked in confusion, "What are you doing?"
"Checking if Daddy's sick."
"I'm fine. I'm just not fully awake yet."
"Then are you awake now, Daddy?"
Gu Wancheng: "..." Probably.
[If Daddy isn't awake, who's talking to you? Oh, Chaochao...]
[Kids are always so weird and so cute.]
"I'm awake."
Rubbing his muddled head, he went outside with Chaochao.
"Wancheng, come look!"
Zhao Chengyu called out to him.
Gu Wancheng walked over curiously to see what they had brought back.
Hmm, quite a lot. There was meat, vegetables, and even fruit for after the meal.
Seeing that he had returned so early, Jiang Yu figured he probably hadn't found much. With a smile on his face, he asked curiously, "Wancheng, you came back so quickly. You must've found lots of things, right?"
After hearing that, his fans began pointing fingers at Gu Wancheng and questioning him.
[What's with this Gu Wancheng? Coming back so early-don't tell me he found nothing.]
[Xiao Yu worked so hard finding food. Certain people had better not just freeload.]
[All he does is open his mouth and wait to be fed. A young master through and through.]
[Meow meow meow? Your Xiao Yu sure worked hard. fake smile.jpg]
[I'm starting to feel bad for Xiaoxiao.]
[He sure talks a lot. All mouth and no hands.]
Gu Wancheng glanced at him and was about to speak when Xu Xiashi gave a soft laugh beside him. She looked straight at Jiang Yu for a moment before looking away.
"Wancheng was lucky. He brought back coconuts and two coconut crabs," she said.
The implication was that Jiang Yu had been unlucky and returned late.
Jiang Yu's expression changed, and he lowered his head.
Chu Yi'an looked at them, then said to Chaochao, "Chaochao, want to try some bubble berries? They're sweet."
Bubble berries?
He had never heard of them. Chaochao ran over curiously. There were some bright red little berries in their basket that looked very delicate.
Chu Yi'an placed one in his hand. "See if you like it."
Chaochao took a tentative bite, and his eyes lit up. Yummy!
"All you kids can go eat them together."
So the little cubs carried the basket off and huddled together, whispering.
Chaochao put his hands on his hips and looked at his friends. "Daddy and I found wild blueberries too. They're really yummy."
Tongtong asked, "What do wild blueberries look like?"
Xiaoxiao was curious too. He had never eaten wild blueberries.
Zuozuo cupped his face in his hands and said confidently, "They look like blueberries."
Mi Tu raised her hand to answer. "I know this one. They're much smaller than the blueberries at the supermarket."
"Come on, I'll take you to get some." Chaochao motioned for them to follow.
