Personality

Song Yanqing presents a cold, composed exterior. Shang Shujue initially remembers him as someone who keeps his face stiff to appear aloof, while acquaintances in the esports storyline are astonished to see the supposedly unattainable “Area” openly affectionate with his partner 7 264.

With Shang Shujue, he is teasing, tearful, and intensely clingy. Once they become a couple, he readily accepts affection, nuzzles him, and immediately wants their game accounts linked as a couple. His care is practical as well as romantic: he prepares meals, cleans, brings favorite snacks, and leaves slippers beside the bed so Shang Shujue will not walk barefoot 133 145 155 261.

His attachment is strongly shaped by loss. After witnessing Shang Shujue’s fatal accident in their original world, he becomes terrified of losing him again. Unanswered calls are enough to make him leave a hospital despite serious injuries. Original World and Shang Shujue’s Death

Song Yanqing and Shang Shujue knew each other from boyhood, but their relationship developed into years of apparent rivalry and continued clashes after they entered the entertainment industry. Song Yanqing became a recognizable star, while Shang Shujue at one point struggled to obtain acting work 160 161.

His feelings were hidden behind that rivalry. A memory of his home contains a rare magazine featuring Shang Shujue, prompting Shang to suspect that Song Yanqing was the mysterious buyer who purchased all ten copies. Another memory reveals that Song Yanqing had prepared a meal and planned to confess, with his family’s knowledge 160 161.

A last-minute work call interrupted the meal. They argued, Shang Shujue left, and he subsequently died in a car accident. Song Yanqing rushed to his body and blamed himself for letting him leave. Later memories show him emaciated and disheveled in a neglected apartment, followed by a visit to Shang Shujue’s grave with flowers and favorite foods 160 161 162.

Reunion in the Book World

Song Yanqing transmigrates into the body of a powerful family’s young master. His first call to Shang Shujue conceals overwhelming relief beneath familiar insults; Shang recognizes that someone from his previous life has also reached this world 7.

The body’s identity gives him the backing of the Songhui Aristocratic Family, a centuries-old political lineage. That influence also comes with restrictions: descendants cannot casually post online, and Song Yanqing risks punishment by publicly defending Shang Shujue using the family’s name 13 31.

After rushing to him while injured and helping ease his karmic pain through kissing, Song Yanqing is frustrated to receive only an offer of friendship. He eventually makes his intentions clearer and agrees to give Shang time to reconsider how he sees him 68 80.

Within the Song Family, he also suspects that Song Yi helped kill his body’s previous owner. Rather than confront him immediately, he conceals his suspicions to avoid alerting other possible conspirators 50.

Confinement and Defiance of the Song Family

After Song Yanqing returns home, Nuomi initially describes his absence as punishment followed by closed-door training. In reality, the family patriarch subjects him to forty-seven days of increasingly harsh assessments, whipping, isolation, and constantly altered escape routes 112 125.

Even after he passes a comprehensive assessment, his great-grandfather declares him a failure and demands that he marry an unfamiliar woman and father a child before being released. Song Yanqing recognizes that the confinement is intended to destroy his attachment to Shang Shujue 125.

He cuts his wrist and threatens further self-harm to force his release. When the patriarch threatens to destroy the Shang Family, Song Yanqing attacks him with a dagger. Song Hengzhe stops him by shouting that Shang Shujue is calling; the blade halts five centimeters from the patriarch’s forehead, and the family restrains him 125.

After the punishment ends, Shang Shujue examines his wrist wounds and asks him never to use self-harm as a threat again. Shang then admits his feelings, recognizing that his supposed childhood dislike had concealed affection. They finally become a couple 132.

Life Together and Recovered Memories

Their established relationship becomes increasingly open. Song Yanqing accompanies Shang Shujue to work, brings flowers and snacks, and is welcomed by people who wish them a lasting life together 145 155.

In a later mission, Song Yanqing occupies the identity of Song Jingyuan’s youngest uncle. Nuomi seals his memories to prevent him from immediately searching for Shang Shujue and disrupting the world’s order 167.

Although he does not recognize Shang Shujue when they meet, he instinctively cries at the sight of him. He visits with his nephew and subsequently moves into the neighboring home, remaining close throughout the children’s upbringing 172 173 174.

His memories fully return after a shareholders’ meeting, when the younger generation has reached high school. He immediately leaves the company to find Shang Shujue. They resume their relationship, and he eventually hands the Song Family’s affairs to Song Jingyuan 174 175.

Tribal and Later Missions

In the tribal mission, Song Yanqing is an Alpha whose Omega grandfather approves his relationship with Shang Shujue. He promises to love and respect Shang, and his grandfather proposes preparing betrothal gifts 183 185.

He continues supporting Shang Shujue’s work across later settings. In one storyline, he rejects an insulting film collaboration proposal from the Lin Family before leaving with Shang to join a production 197.

Spiritual-Energy-Revival Mission

Song Yanqing and Shang Shujue accept a mission to help establish order in a world where powerful cultivators persecute ordinary people. Before entering with their memories sealed, they bind the paired Key and Lock of the Sworn Heart so the artifacts can protect them and guide them back to each other 209.

In this world, Song Yanqing grows up in Cloud-Piercing Village, a settlement of twenty-five households in southwestern Huaxia. The village chief finds and raises him, then dies when Song is eight. The villagers continue housing, feeding, and helping him until he leaves at fifteen to attend a provincial high school 221.

At Yulin Academy, his powerful natal artifact attracts envy. Hostile students and indifferent teachers leave him exposed to dangerous hunting assignments; Xingyun and a protective teacher are crucial to his survival. Yan Chen eventually traps him in a formation while attempting to seize his artifact 214 217.

Song Yanqing destroys the formation’s nodes with silver needles and escapes. Gravely injured, he uses Xingyun’s power to reach Shang Shujue’s house, where their paired artifacts reveal their connection. Shang saves him, and they remain together while he recovers 214 215 217.

He later returns to his village, repays the villagers’ donations, and brings gifts for everyone. After reaching Golden Core Peak, he undertakes a Nascent Soul breakthrough partly because the realm’s financial rewards, housing, and resources would help him build a future with Shang Shujue 218 222 229.

He survives the seven-bolt tribulation and becomes an Early Nascent Soul cultivator. When ancient demons emerge, he and Shang Shujue join Qing Shu and other cultivators on the front lines. Afterward, the couple reunite with family and set off to travel together 227 231 232.

In the esports storyline, Song Yanqing is the captain of JSY Team and competes under the name Area. He takes in Shang Shujue in fox form, caring for him while continuing his streaming and training obligations.
