"System, you haven't ripped me off, have you? How could an advanced assassin cost so much more than an advanced bodyguard?"
"Host, assassin training is more brutal than bodyguard training. Going from an ordinary person to an assassin sometimes costs lives, and becoming an advanced assassin costs even more lives. Although advanced bodyguard training is grueling, it does not cost lives, so assassins are more expensive than bodyguards."
Hearing the system's explanation, Li Rui felt reassured. That was true, after all. Assassination was a high-risk profession that often required venturing into dragons' pools and tigers' dens. A higher price was understandable.
Besides, money didn't mean shit to him. He had spent 1.5 billion at the underground fighting arena yesterday to buy 150 advanced bodyguards and barely felt a thing. He had merely been caught off guard by suddenly hearing how expensive an assassin was.
Without dwelling on the price any further, Li Rui named the assassin An Yi, then issued An Yi an order through the system: eliminate anyone who threatened him.
"I can play by the rules with people who follow them. But if someone doesn't follow the rules, they can't blame me for breaking them either," Li Rui murmured to himself.
Li Rui believed that anything produced by the system had to be top quality. An assassin who cost five times as much as a bodyguard would absolutely be more than worth the money too. Dealing with a gang leader like this would surely be as easy as reaching out and grabbing him.
Li Rui then went back to eating breakfast. After finishing, just as he was considering where to go for a stroll, he received another call from Lü Yifan.
"Old Li, I've got good news. Want to hear it?" Lü Yifan said with a grin on the other end.
"Oh? What good news?" Li Rui asked in surprise. They had only been apart for one night. What good news could there be?
"Hehe, your four sports cars are here. What do you think? Your buddy's pretty impressive, right?"
"Really? How did they get here so fast? Didn't Wang Zhongtian say delivery would take half a month? Was he pulling my leg, or are you?"
"Old Li, how would Manager Wang dare pull your leg? I'm not pulling your leg either. The four sports cars really are here, and it's mainly thanks to my old man."
"I told him what happened yesterday, and he tapped into his connections without another word. With his connections, getting these sports cars was naturally much faster than it would've been for me. Hehe," Lü Yifan explained with a laugh.
"Oh? Why would your old man help me? I don't even know him." Li Rui was a little puzzled. Did the chairman of a hundred-billion group need to curry favor with him?
"Old Li, you really underestimate yourself. Just the fact that you could bring Gu Yuanshan to heel made my old man want to be your friend. He might even need your help someday," Lü Yifan explained.
Hearing that explanation, Li Rui understood a little. Although these groups had money, they were in legitimate businesses, after all. Sometimes, what they feared most was being pestered by gangsters like these. Knowing he had so many men under him, it was hardly strange that they wanted to build a good relationship with him.
"All right, then bring the cars to the Sun Grand Hotel." He stopped dwelling on why the four sports cars could arrive so quickly. All he wanted now was to see those four supercars as soon as possible. Even the cheapest cost twice as much as a McLaren P1, while the most expensive was close to 100 million in Dragon Country currency.
"Listen, Old Li, you're hardly short of money. Staying in a hotel every day isn't a solution. Why not buy a big villa to live in? Look, you don't even have anywhere to park the supercars you've bought," Lü Yifan advised upon hearing Li Rui ask him to deliver the four sports cars to the hotel.
"I'll think about it when I have time." He had never considered buying a home in Star City before. He figured he only stayed in Star City a few days a year, so there was no need for the waste.
Now, however, he had a different idea. He had more money than he could spend anyway. Even if he bought homes and never lived in them, he could treat them as investments.
Half an hour later, the sleek supercars and ten Land Rover Range Rovers were parked in the Sun Grand Hotel's open-air parking lot.
Li Rui received Lü Yifan's call and headed downstairs with Li Yi and the other three.
"Old Li, look! I've brought all your cars. Aren't they gorgeous?" Meeting Li Rui at the hotel entrance, Lü Yifan grabbed him and pointed toward the parking lot a short distance away.
Li Rui looked where Lü Yifan was pointing and saw four low-slung supercars lined up in a row. Dozens of passersby crowded around them, snapping photos like mad.
Seeing the four supercars he had been yearning for over the past few days, Li Rui couldn't spare any attention for what Lü Yifan was saying. His eyes never left them as he strode toward the cars.
The red Apollo Sun God, the orange-red Bugatti Veyron, the purple Hennessey Venom GT, and the silver-gray Lamborghini Veneno Veneno-the four supercars stole Li Rui's soul like four peerless beauties.
"Where are the keys?" Li Rui asked Lü Yifan without even turning around. Seeing how Li Rui looked as though his soul had been stolen, Lü Yifan smiled in understanding. He liked sports cars like these too, but unfortunately, his old man wouldn't let him buy them.
Li Rui reached out to take the four keys and pressed their buttons one after another. The four supercars' lights lit up in turn, as though welcoming their owner's arrival.
When the onlookers saw a young man holding four car keys wake the lights of all four supercars, each inwardly cursed in envy. You filthy rich bastard! So what if you've got money? Buying four supercars-can you even drive them all?
Although he already owned a McLaren P1, Li Rui still remained excited for a long time at the sight of these four supercars before finally calming down.
After instructing the twenty advanced bodyguards staying at the Sun Grand Hotel to watch the other vehicles, Li Rui drove the purple Hennessey Venom GT out of the hotel. Although it wasn't the most expensive, it was the one he found most pleasing to the eye.
An 80-million car on the road had a head-turning rate of 200%. If it hadn't been traveling so fast, that rate could have been even higher.
Yunrong was out shopping with her best friend, holding hands and carrying a cup of milk tea as they waited at the traffic lights.
A purple supercar stopped on the parallel road, waiting at the lights just like them.
"Wow, Yunrong, look! That supercar is so gorgeous! I'd do anything for a ride in it. It's so gorgeous-I've got to take a photo!" The girl's eyes shone as she stared at the supercar.
"Liu Yan, if an old man were driving it, would you still do anything? Haha!" Yunrong teased her best friend.
"Tch, an old man wouldn't drive a sports car like this. Even if it were an old man, I'd still be willing. One ride in a supercar like that, and I could brag for the rest of my life. As long as he's human, that's fine. Hehe."
"Yunrong, look, he's a handsome young guy, too! You're so pretty-go ask for his contact details. You might land yourself a golden-turtle husband!" To check the driver's age, the girl joking with Yunrong pretended to crouch down and tie her shoelaces. Once she got a clear look at his face, she spoke in delighted surprise.
Hearing her best friend's words, Yunrong instinctively bent slightly to look toward the sports car's driver's seat. To better enjoy the feeling of going for a drive, Li Rui had left the window open, allowing Yunrong to see his face clearly.
"Li Rui?" A shocked voice escaped Yunrong's lips.
