Tony recruited Harley as his assistant and began training him at the SSC base, emphasizing responsibility before technology. During armor training and neural-interface calibration, Tony repeatedly blurted out strange technical suggestions in an unfamiliar manner, leaving him uncertain whether the presence in his head meant him harm.
Phastos and the others discovered that the Mind Stone had overwhelmed Tony’s mind and forced him to work for nearly two days. Lynn confronted the Stone, learned that it feared an approaching threat and proposed fusion, and Tony recovered with new abilities before appointing Harley to the field roster as Iron Lad.
Harley settled into his new role as a field commander, led his first mission with Peter, and joined the team on a trip to Mountain City. After enjoying the local food and the quieter streets, Harley and Peter agreed to explore more the next day.
The Mind Stone revealed that Mister Fantastic, Reed Richards, and Kang were pursuing it across universes for their own purposes. Lynn and Tony began planning Earth’s defenses and an off-world battlefield as the pursuers drew closer.
Lynn and Tony learned more about Reed Richards and Kang the Conqueror, then led a meeting to organize defenses against their arrival. The group assigned preparations and combat roles, leaving them with a detailed plan to protect Earth and keep the coming battle away from it.
Tony and the others prepared defenses against Reed and Kang while an anomalous signal appeared, raising the prospect of their arrival. After spending a rare evening with Pepper, Tony learned Lynn had detected three more anomalous points and was leaving to investigate them.
Tony and his team investigated three anomalies that suggested Reed was searching for an entrance while Kang secretly monitored the area. They tightened their defenses and response plans, and the chapter ended with the team gathering as Kang’s pulse began to change.
Banner and the others identified Reed crossing the universe’s boundary, then Tony and Lynn intercepted him to negotiate for the Mind Stone. When Reed refused to abandon his plan to unify the parallel universes, Tony moved to the planned confrontation while Lynn deployed the armory’s suits and watched for Kang.
Tony, Thor, and the Asgardian vanguard fought Reed’s adaptive creations while Reed deployed a replica to engage Thor and confronted Tony for the stone. As the battle continued, Lynn left the battlefield to investigate Kang’s previous coordinates, and Tony prepared to face Reed while Thor struggled against the replica.
Tony and Lynn helped stop Reed’s attempt to rewrite the laws of physics with the Origin of Order, but Reed escaped after overloading the device. The surviving heroes regrouped, while Kang remained a lurking threat.
Tony coordinated with Ivan, Banner, and Phastos to develop armor upgrades designed to counter Reed’s adaptive constructs and predictive attacks. After a successful simulation, he ordered the equipment mass-produced and learned that Lynn was going to investigate movement on Kang’s end.
Tony and the Vanguard Group prepared to strike Kang before he completed an energy net that would let him open portals anywhere around the Solar System. After adapting their armor to Kang’s time devices, Tony led the team through Lynn’s portal to attack, while Harley and Peter stayed behind to protect Earth.
