Claim reward: Random Improved Charm x1?]
Lorne actually checked his mission progress every night. He remembered it being only in the two hundred and eighties last night, yet it had already passed three hundred today.
The mission was complete.
By rights, he reckoned he must have collected over five hundred points of Power of Emotion. It was just that his recent expenses had been rather high. Every single arcade machine downstairs had cost ten points of Power of Emotion.
That was right-those arcade machines were Magic Mobile Phones. Lorne had discovered a dragon option among the available races and bought one just to try it out. He had not expected it to be such a huge model. Those two stone slabs were only meant for a dragon to rest one toe on each.
But at ten points of Power of Emotion per Magic Mobile Phone, Lorne would have a hard time expanding the business.
He had checked the sources of his Power of Emotion. Fewer than a hundred points had come from direct contact with people; all the rest had come from the Magic Mobile Phones.
One Magic Mobile Phone could generate roughly one point of Power of Emotion a day. When Wizard Legend released new gacha characters or events, that could reach three points a day. Presumably, both those who pulled the characters and those who failed were contributing.
Since the arcade machines downstairs served customers nonstop every day, each could generate nearly two points of Power of Emotion a day, paying for itself in just five days.
But that still was not enough.
Lorne's plan was to wait until Hogwarts started its school year in just over a month, take advantage of the crowds, and run through the whole process of promotion, hype, and sales in one go.
But the three hundred-odd points of Power of Emotion he had on hand would only buy thirty phones. Unless he changed something, he would either have to postpone his plan or sell limited quantities.
He had to think of a solution.
For now, though, there was something more important.
"System, claim rewards."
[Ding! Rewards successfully claimed: Later-Generation Improved Memory Modification Charm x1, Percy Great Perfection Realm]
In an instant, Lorne felt a complex body of knowledge enter his mind and a surge of power enter his body. The information on the Improved Memory Modification Charm was sorted into categories in his mind, like a display wall he could consult whenever he wished.
Another direct infusion of knowledge.
Lorne absolutely loved this feeling of getting something without working for it.
No, that was not right. He was clearly hardworking too. Events, phones, games-he had gone two days and two nights without a wink of sleep while making Street Wizard Fighter.
The Percy Great Perfection Realm gave Lorne a new understanding of a wizard's total magical reserves. Previously, his magic had flowed through the channels of his body, gathering as needed in response to his thoughts and spells so he could guide it into the wand in his hand.
Now, however, there was no need to guide it at all. Though his magic had not reached the point of spilling out, there was enough of it to lie dormant in every corner of his body.
In other words, even in a crisis, he could swiftly raise his wand and respond, saving the time needed to mobilize his magic.
Of course, the system-improved Levitation Charm, which he could cast silently and wandlessly, did not count. Even so, the boost was obvious. His original magical reserves could support the Levitation Charm carrying him through two laps around Hogwarts; now, he had enough to follow the Hogwarts Express for an entire journey.
Lorne took a brief look at the Improved Memory Modification Charm. Sure enough, anything involving the brain required extreme care, and this spell was not nearly as overpowered as the Levitation Charm.
Lorne remembered that Gilderoy Lockhart, the professor for Defence Against Dark Magic Class in his second year at Hogwarts, was an expert in the Memory Modification Charm. He excelled at probing and altering other people's memories, stealing their adventures and exciting stories to put in his own books.
Compared with Lockhart's, his Improved Memory Modification Charm added a passive defensive effect on top of active alteration.
He could edit his own memories however he liked and place them in the most prominent period of time, so anyone using the Memory Modification Charm or Legilimency on him would encounter that memory first and then suffer a crushing defeat.
Essentially, he now had a form of Occlumency that could counterattack.
That was good. At least he would not have to study under Snape in the future.
What sort of memory should I fabricate for myself?
The reincarnation of Death, the true Dark Lord? A little too evil. I belong to a proper righteous sect.
An all-seeing mastermind behind the scenes? A little too mysterious. I couldn't pull that off.
Lorne gave a wicked, rakish smile. A good idea had suddenly come to him.
Lorne checked his mission panel again.
[Mission: Collect Power of Emotion from your own kind] [Progress: 313/800] [Reward: Discount Coupon x1] [Discount Coupon effect: Apply to a single product to receive a discount ranging from 0% to 90% off for three days. Cannot be reused]
Lorne: "!"
Even tailor-made rewards had appeared. This was practically a pillow arriving just as he was getting sleepy. His luck was finally turning around.
With a Discount Coupon, he could stockpile Magic Mobile Phones like mad and have enough initial capital to develop his grand entertainment enterprise.
The problem was that collecting eight hundred points of Power of Emotion would take quite some effort too.
Lorne frowned. Would he have to release another game, or update Wizard Legend's gacha pool or events again? But there were no holidays coming up.
Street Wizard Fighter... what could I update in that?
Wait, a tournament!
Street Wizard Fighter becoming a massive hit had been practically inevitable in Lorne's plans. In the Wizarding World, using magic was as simple as eating or drinking, but most people used everyday spells. Few used spells to fight.
In fact, just as readers who saw scenes of sword flight and myriad swords returning to their source in fantasy novels would imagine themselves cutting down enemies on all sides, many people looked forward to showing off their prowess before others and winning them over through strength.
Street Wizard Fighter had seized upon precisely this mindset among wizards. Combined with its striking visuals and the sound effects for victories and taking hits, it had swiftly won over some wizards.
On the other hand, wizards had high attack and low defense, so actual fights were not all that spectacular. But Street Wizard Fighter fully quantified these invisible factors, representing victory and defeat with health bars and attack strength and frequency with mana bars. Together with spells produced through all kinds of complex controls, it strengthened the feedback that skill and brains provided in combat.
Finally, there was the meaning of "street." While the crowd of onlookers could certainly put off some beginners, this performative aspect could greatly stimulate players' desire to show off and practice. A match only lasted a few minutes, too, perfectly suiting the Wizarding World's pace of striving to be first and fastest.
A tournament would therefore only lend greater weight to the "fighter" in Street Wizard Fighter.
Any wizard who came to enjoy this game would surely participate, eager to show off their skills.
With a few small rewards of his own to fan the flames, he would have no shortage of points to harvest.
