"Isn't this just giving you an option, so you won't complain later that your ancestors didn't protect you?" Alexander said.
Michael shook his head, firmly stating, "Thank you for your kindness, but I don't want great power right now, nor do I want immortality. I still want to stay in the human world."
Seeing Michael's resolute expression, Alexander revealed the cruelest truth, shattering his illusion of a peaceful life:
"You have no choice. Werewolf and vampires have evolved to the point where they can exploit each other's bloodlines, and you're caught in the middle. It's extremely dangerous; even playing the balance game is risky."
"Because both sides will be vying for you."
"If I can't have you, I'm afraid you'll turn to someone else. Although you try your best to explain and swear that you won't, no one will believe you. However, I can always stay by your side to protect you, but that would interfere with your life. Are you willing?"
Michael paused for a moment, then looked up, his eyes filled with stubbornness. "I don't want to, but I'm still willing to face it myself."
Alexander nodded knowingly, then analyzed the options for him. "If you want to truly control your own life, there are only two paths you can take. First, change your country, disappear from sight, and never set foot in the land where the two races are at war. Second, you can modify your bloodline."
"It seems having an ancestor like you isn't all bad!" Trillian's opinion changed instantly. "Not only will you bring trouble, but you can also provide real protection for your descendants."
Selene finally had all her past doubts resolved:
"No wonder we never get caught fighting in the human world; it turns out our ancestor has always been cleaning up our messes..."
Trillian piqued, Cui Lian quickly pressed, "Ancestor, just how powerful have you become in the human world?"
Alexander dismissively replied, "It's nothing."
"This is nothing to brag about?" Trillian clicked her tongue in astonishment.
"They're all operating covertly under the guise of human governments," Alexander frankly stated. "It's precisely because I've had contact with human governments that I understand just how powerful humanity's technology is."
"Therefore, I don't want the two races to fight too much. Once the human world is involved, they will inevitably be hunted down."
"A balance is ideal, but right now the werewolves are weak and the vampires are strong. Viktor is dead, and Marcus has taken over. He has also incorporated Werewolf blood, and both sides have weapons to counter each other. If this isn't stopped soon, we might face extinction."
At this point, Trillian understood his deeper meaning:
"So you want Michael to be a pawn in maintaining the balance, not just to save his life."
"Of course there's that reason," Alexander said, looking at Michael. "Of course. If you'd like, it would be even better if you could try to push for peace between the vampires and werewolves."
At this point Alexander immediately added, "But you can choose to refuse. I will still help him gain the strength to protect himself. Because you have the right to live your own life, without having to sacrifice yourself for the blood debts accumulated by generations of others."
At this moment, Selene asked the question that had been bothering her, "How do you know so much? Do you have spies in both the Wolfblood and Wolfblood clans?"
"Yes," Alexander readily admitted.
He then dropped a bombshell, "And I've already arrested and dealt with Singe, so you don't need to worry about him anymore."
" Singe —he escaped?"
Trillian asked a follow-up question, wanting to confirm this.
"Yes, he's clever," Alexander nodded. "He sensed danger and escaped while Marcus was on his way to the Wolf's Den. But even the wisest can make a mistake."
" Lucian was right," Trillian clicked her tongue.
Michael smiled and said:
"No matter how clever they are, they still fell victim to their ancestor."
Michael's quick change amused Trillian, who said, "Yeah, old foxes are always the wisest. You have to be the progenitor; you can tell what kind of shit your descendants are going to take just by looking at them."
Having lived for so many years, this praise was not enough to stir Alexander's heart. He solemnly said to Michael again, "If you've thought it through, I'll help you modify your bloodline now."
The living room fell silent, and everyone's eyes were on Michael. In the silence that lasted for more than ten seconds, Michael thought about the crisis of the past two days, realizing that he had no choice in the matter.
So he understood that only by becoming strong could he control his destiny. After figuring this out, Michael's confusion vanished, and he firmly said, "I've made up my mind. I accept the bloodline modification."
Upon receiving the reply, Alexander took out two bags of blood and handed them to Michael, still reminding him, "Once the modification begins, there's no turning back. It's not too late to back out now!"
Michael glanced at the blood bag and said:
"Let's continue."
Alexander then handed him a bag of blood. "Just drink this when you get to your room."
Michael took the blood bag and examined the blood inside with curiosity; the blood had a strange dark golden color.
Trillian leaned closer for a look and exclaimed in surprise, "Holy crap—what kind of blood is this? It's actually dark gold!"
Alexander calmly explained, "This is my blood. My blood is very strong. Michael possesses the Corvinus Bloodline; drinking it will upgrade his bloodline and increase his strength."
Upon hearing this, Trillian asked a crucial question, "Since you're so strong, why don't you stop the fighting yourself?"
Alexander's gaze remained calm as he stated his unchanging principle. "I will not interfere in the private feuds between two tribes, the power struggles, or the factional infighting."
"As long as the conflict doesn't involve humans and won't result in the extinction of the race or the end of the lineage, I won't intervene."
"That's a bit irresponsible of you!" Trillian complained. "What kind of father would say, 'As long as the neighbor's kid is okay, I don't care,' when his sons are fighting to the death?"
Alexander fell silent, then he had to admit:
"Yes, I am a bad father."
Draco, Hermione, and Selene exchanged bewildered glances, all speechless. What kind of person was this? But then they thought, let them choose whatever they want; meddling too much would only make them unhappy.
Michael, not wanting the situation to remain tense, took the initiative to ask, "Are there any precautions to take when drinking this blood?"
"No. I just want to find a quiet room to stay in, with someone watching over me so they can intervene and prevent anything from happening."
"Shall we begin?" Michael took a deep breath.
"No rush," Alexander said, handing another blood bag to Selene. "This bag of blood is for Selene."
Selene was taken aback. "Me?"
"Yes," Alexander said, "Don't you want to overcome your weakness? Drink this, and your strength will increase dramatically. At the same time, your weakness will be overcome, and you won't have to fear the sun during the day."
It would be a lie to say that Selene wasn't tempted.
