A Chimera up in front of Winter Manor, Gus got out.
He straightened his collar and gave a gentle smile, like a nobleman visiting a friend.
He gestured with his chin towards the servant at the door. "Go and announce that a friend has come to visit."
The servant dared not delay and immediately turned and ran into the manor to report.
The attendant quickly ran back and gestured for them to enter.
"Please come in, sir. The master requests that you wait in the main hall."
Gus nodded and followed the servant into the manor.
Upon entering the lobby, Gus sat down on the sofa with a composed demeanor.
The servants quickly served tea and snacks.
"Where is Lord Eddie?" Gus picked up his teacup and took a small sip.
"The master is still resting, saying he's not feeling well, so please wait a moment."
The attendant answered respectfully.
Gus nodded, saying nothing more, and simply sipped his tea slowly.
A few minutes later, slow footsteps could be heard on the stairs.
An elderly man with gray hair but a sprightly spirit walked down the stairs, leaning on a cane.
He was wearing a silk bathrobe and had a rosy complexion.
Old Winter, Eddie Winter's father, and the former head of the Winter Family.
Old Winter walked to the center of the hall, his gaze sweeping over Gus from head to toe:
"I heard we have a guest? Young man, what do you need Eddie for?"
Gus stood up and saluted, his posture polite and proper.
"I am his friend, and I had intended to invite him to the banquet at the Governor's residence yesterday."
I heard he had suddenly fallen ill, so I came specifically to check on him.
Upon hearing the words "the Governor's banquet," Old Winter's eyes lit up instantly.
A disdainful smile appeared on his face, completely unaware of the cold glint that flashed in Gus's eyes.
"A dinner party? That dog governor's dinner party?" Old Winter's voice was filled with disdain.
Gus raised an eyebrow, feigning confusion. "The dog governor?"
"Yes, a genuine dog governor!"
What do you mean?
"Oh dear, aren't all these governors dogs?" Old Winter waved his hand and sat down on the sofa opposite Gus, his tone becoming increasingly disdainful.
"They come up, scrape off a layer, and then leave, completely disregarding the lives of us nobles."
"That Kerry von recently is an absolute bastard! A beast among beasts!"
Gus chuckled, picked up his teacup, took a small sip, and said with a playful tone:
"A beast among beasts? Do you have a grudge against him?"
He pretended not to know and led Old Winter to continue talking.
"Hatred? How could there be no hatred?" Old Winter slapped his thigh and slammed his cane heavily on the ground.
"Our Winter House has lived in Brevis for four generations, working diligently and peacefully, never causing trouble for anyone!"
"The moment Kerry Feng arrived, he was thinking of ripping us off. He immediately asked to donate assets. Does he think we're easy prey?"
Gus nodded thoughtfully:
"But I've heard that the Governor is very powerful."
"The Orks held Brevis, and they treated the lower classes well, opening granaries to provide food for refugees, earning them a good reputation."
"What's the use of being kind to those lowly people?" Old Winter scoffed.
"What good are those lowly commoners? Doesn't it still depend on us nobles to provide the money and supplies to fight the Orks?"
"What's worse, not only are they ungrateful, they even want to kill us!"
"Yesterday's dinner was clearly a trap, luckily Eddie was smart enough to feign illness and escape."
Otherwise, he would probably be a corpse in the Governor's mansion by now!
He became more and more excited as he spoke, spittle flying everywhere, completely oblivious to the meaningful smile on Gus's face.
Just then, the back door of the hall was pushed open, and Eddie Winter rushed in.
He was dressed in his pajamas, his face was ashen, and his eyes were filled with panic.
When he saw Gus on the sofa, his body froze instantly, and all color drained from his face.
"Father!" Eddie's voice trembled as he quickly stepped forward, trying to interrupt Old Winter.
"Please don't say anything more, I'll take care of the guests. You should go back to your room and rest."
Old Winter turned around and saw Eddie, a smile spreading across his face:
"Oh, you've come at the perfect time."
"I'm having a pleasant chat with this young friend. Is he your friend?"
"You know what, I had a really good chat with him just now. That Kerry von is a complete bastard..."
"Father!!!" Eddie almost screamed, his voice filled with despair and panic.
Old Winter finally realized something was wrong.
He looked at his son's pale face, then glanced at Gus's meaningful smile across the table.
The excitement in his eyes gradually faded, replaced by doubt and unease.
He stood up, held up a finger to Gus, and gave him a fawning smile:
"Hey, I'll get you a bowl of noodles."
"Try this authentic Snow Cow beef noodle soup!"
Gus raised an eyebrow, his smile unchanged.
"The broth is made with the most authentic wild snow cattle from Brevis, simmered for a full three hours, plus a handful of wild scallions from the Ice Plains—the aroma is simply divine!"
Old Winter slapped his thigh, his tone smug.
Gus smiled and nodded, "Okay, but I don't eat onions."
"Okay!" Old Winter didn't even hesitate and immediately got up and headed towards the kitchen.
"No scallions, but lots of meat! I guarantee you'll be satisfied!"
He hurried along, leaning on his cane, unaware that his son had fallen into despair.
As soon as Old Winter left, Eddie's legs went weak and he slumped onto the sofa next to Gus.
He was trembling all over, his face covered in tears of despair.
"Please, sir." His voice was hoarse and choked with sobs as he gripped Gus ' sleeve tightly.
"Don't kill the others here, it's all my fault, please spare my family, spare my father..."
He knew Gus's identity and Lynn's methods.
Gus gently pushed his hand away, a smile on his face that was more terrifying than the devil in Eddie's eyes.
Do I look like someone who indiscriminately kills innocent people?
Eddie looked up at the portraits of the successive heads of the Winter Family on the wall.
My great-grandfather's dignity, my grandfather's composure, and my father's youthful vigor.
He closed his eyes in agony and shook his head desperately.
Gus laughed even harder and patted him on the shoulder:
That solves it.
His face suddenly turned cold, and his tone became sinister:
"However, wasn't it inappropriate for your father to insult my boss like that?"
Eddie was trembling all over and couldn't utter a word.
"Let's play a game," Gus suddenly said.
"If you win, I'll let you go."
"You lost. You will all die, Winter Family will be wiped out of Brevis from this day forward."
Eddie opened his eyes, his gaze filled with fear.
"I'll bet you whether your father put wild onions in his noodles." Gus ' voice was icy.
I bet he let it go.
"He hates the governor so much, he hates us so much, I'm sure that even though he says he won't let go, he's secretly planted a lot of wild onions to annoy me."
Eddie opened his mouth but couldn't say anything; he was just trembling all over.
The sound of noodles simmering came from the kitchen, bubbling and gurgling.
The sound of noodles cooking soon stopped.
Old Winter came out of the kitchen carrying a steaming bowl of noodles.
He carefully placed the bowl in front of Gus.
The bowl was large, filled with thinly sliced snow beef, and the rich broth had a milky white hue.
A thin layer of oil floats on the surface, and the aroma is irresistible.
A layer of bright green spice leaves is sprinkled on top of the soup; the leaves are finely chopped and look particularly appealing.
That's not wild onion; it's a spice leaf native to Brevis.
Old Winter stood to the side and said smugly:
"Try it, authentic Snow Cow beef noodles! I made sure not to add wild onions."
Gus looked down at the bowl of noodles and paused for a second.
Eddie's heart was pounding. He stared at the bowl of noodles, a glimmer of hope igniting in his heart.
Gus looked up at Eddie, then at Old Winter, his smile as bright as the sun.
Yet it sends chills down one's spine.
He looked at Eddie, his smile growing increasingly distorted.
I don't eat beef.
