According to his memories, the club was located in the suburbs.
By day, the place could probably have served as a filming location for Howards End.
A lawn, a fountain, white exterior walls, and a row of shrubs by the entrance, trimmed as neatly as wigs.
At night, it was where Vought International's superheroes came to let loose.
Black SUVs drove into the estate one after another, their windows all covered in privacy film.
The staff at the entrance wore suits, murmuring reports into their headsets.
Several well-dressed men and women got out of the cars and were escorted toward the mansion by staff.
Chen Mo stood among the staff, holding a folder, with an employee badge on his chest: Jonathan.
Jonathan himself, however, was still in the utility room.
The one here was Chen Mo.
The disguise created by the Blacklight Virus was solid.
His height, face, voice, and even the feeble air of an overworked office drone who had stayed up all night had been reproduced seven or eight parts out of ten.
The only problem was that he didn't have Jonathan's memories.
So Chen Mo could only bluff his way through with the fragments Marlow had left behind and what he observed on the spot.
The good news was that nobody at an event like this would take a serious look at an assistant.
The bad news was that they treated assistants like forklifts.
"Jonathan! Go change the sign for the VIP passage!"
"Jonathan! Take these ladies over there!"
"Jonathan! Lady Morningstar wants sugar-free electrolyte water. Don't get the wrong one!"
Chen Mo was run ragged in the hallway.
He kept a smile on his face.
In his mind, he had already chopped Jonathan's supervisor into eight pieces.
I didn't transmigrate into The Boys to experience workplace bullying, did I?
The music in the main hall was pounding.
Neon lights flashed in a riot of colors, absurdly bright.
A crowd of superhumans stood on the dance floor, like demons dancing in a frenzy.
On the dance floor, Lady Morningstar wore a silver-white costume with a star-shaped badge pinned to her chest.
She could control intense light and had once saved thirteen children during a school shooting.
She was hailed as the kindest heroine of the new generation.
But the kindest heroine of the new generation was busy right now.
In short, there was a lot of up-and-down movement.
Tsk, tsk, tsk. Learned something new. That position works too?
Chen Mo came over carrying a case of water and used Blacklight Vision to scan the bodies of a group of people ahead.
The two men were both ordinary people, so there was nothing worth mentioning.
In Blacklight Vision, the woman's overall muscular strength was only slightly weaker than A-Train's, and heat was abnormally concentrated around her eyes and palms.
Her strength was probably considerable.
But what concerned Chen Mo more was the ring of tiny needle marks on the inside of her wrist.
That meant there might also be a considerable stockpile of Compound here.
Lady Morningstar opened her slightly unfocused eyes and licked her lips.
"Hm? The little assistant is pretty handsome. Want to join in?"
Chen Mo nearly lost his composure.
"Oh, nah, I'm good, Lady Morningstar. I've still got to hurry and serve the other heroes. Really sorry about that."
Then he quickened his pace and left.
The two men at work weren't surprised in the slightest.
That showed Lady Morningstar had definitely invited someone to join in midway more than once.
Chen Mo shook his head.
Tsk, tsk, tsk. Even the air in here is probably toxic.
On the other side of the hall, a burly man was surrounded by several people.
His hero name was Iron Wall.
His power was his thick skin and tough flesh, making him like a block of iron.
In promotional videos, he had shielded firefighters from a collapsing building and taken bullets for the police. His citizen satisfaction ratings had remained consistently high for years.
In front of the cameras, Iron Wall held a young boy who was a fan, smiling like a loving father.
"Be brave, kid. I'll always stand in front of you."
The moment the cameras stopped rolling.
Iron Wall was partying wildly on the dance floor.
Several young women in flashy outfits surrounded him.
Iron Wall roared with laughter, lifting a nearby server with one hand and shaking him up and down like a dumbbell.
The server's face turned white.
"Sir, I still have work to do..."
Iron Wall grinned.
"Relax. Everyone likes a little entertainment."
The people around them joined in, egging him on.
The frightened server's tray wobbled in his hands, spilling drinks all over Iron Wall.
Iron Wall's face darkened on the spot.
He grabbed the server and threw him.
The server went flying and crashed to the floor, unable to get up for a long while.
Iron Wall brushed off his clothes and turned to smile at the people beside him.
"People like that need to be taught a lesson."
Chen Mo's gaze turned cold as he watched.
What superheroes?
They're all scum in costumes.
Farther inside was the VIP lounge.
Chen Mo carried drinks inside. The guard at the door glanced at his badge and waved him through.
It was even livelier inside.
The heroes finally didn't have to pretend anymore.
A tall, thin man lounged on a sofa with a cigarette in his mouth. He flicked a finger, and a flame sprang from its tip.
His hero name was Matchstick Man.
He could control flames within a small area. By day, he was a fire safety ambassador whose promotional slogan was "Stay away from fire, cherish life."
Right now, Matchstick Man was holding a flame close to a waitress's chest.
The fabric slowly charred black, exposing the tender white skin beneath.
The waitress was too frightened to move away.
Matchstick Man laughed until tears nearly came out.
"Don't shake. I haven't set it on fire yet."
A short-haired woman nearby waved a hand.
Her name was Echo Girl.
She could produce high-frequency sound waves and often shattered glass from a distance on shows. She had also been packaged as a search-and-rescue expert for missing children.
Now Echo Girl tapped a wineglass with her fingertip, producing a piercing vibration.
In the corner, a server clutched his ears in pain as blood slowly trickled from his nose.
Echo Girl tilted her head.
"Look, he actually lasted five seconds. Want to bet on whether he can last ten?"
A group of people on the sofa doubled over laughing.
Chen Mo set the drinks on the table.
He glanced around.
Their combat strength all looked pretty average. These people, Matchstick Man and Echo Girl, had never even appeared in the story.
One hard look with his prosthetic eye, and he judged them to be pure, unadulterated trash mobs.
But there was no rush. He would first figure out who was here before digging in.
At the far end of the lounge, a man in a blue suit was leaning against the wall, chatting with someone.
His hero name was Mind Master.
He was said to be able to sense other people's emotions. His public persona was that of a negotiation expert, and he had once saved hostages by judging a robber's emotions.
When Chen Mo saw him, Mind Master also looked up.
"Hm? New here?"
Chen Mo lowered his head and spoke respectfully.
"I'm a new assistant from the Public Affairs Department."
Mind Master narrowed his eyes.
"You don't look like an assistant."
Chen Mo tapped the tray lightly with a finger.
The Blacklight Virus immediately adjusted its state.
His nervous system and hormones began simulating a state of nervousness.
Chen Mo gave him a shy smile.
"Sorry, sir. It's my first time in the VIP area."
Mind Master stared at him for two seconds, then suddenly smiled.
"Don't be afraid. It's not like I eat people."
Chen Mo replied inwardly.
You don't, but I do.
Someone nearby called out.
"A-Train's here!"
The lounge instantly came alive.
A dark blur flashed through the doorway, moving so fast it kicked up a gust of wind.
A-Train stopped beside the bar, picked up a bottle of water, and took two big gulps.
Several low-level superhumans immediately crowded around him, greeting him as eagerly as if they'd seen their own father.
A-Train enjoyed the feeling.
Even if his condition had declined somewhat, his status as a member of The Seven still put everyone else here in the shade.
"Haha, I'm not late, am I? How's the party going?"
Whoa, there's a real expert here too?
Chen Mo licked the corner of his mouth.
That's a tough bone, but my teeth might just be tough enough.
