Catwoman fell silent again.
Her brain was still trying to process the unbelievable scene that had just unfolded: the man had made a plant go through a cycle of life and death out of thin air, and now he had produced a living, miniature version of Bruce, dressed in Batsuit.
However, before she could speak, the little thing floating in mid-air suddenly made two clear "chirp" sounds.
Immediately afterwards, it flicked its small cape, and two Batarang, no bigger than a fingernail, flew out from its body and accurately embedded themselves in the sofa behind her.
Yes, Selene was certain her eyes weren't deceiving her.
Although it's unclear where this little guy pulled out the Batarang from, especially the mini version, he did indeed toss it into his sofa.
That's kind of... cool.
'Great!'
The thought popped into my head uncontrollably.
Selene looked at Thor and finally asked slowly, "What is this?"
"You can call it ' Tuotuo '," Thor casually explained, "An alien race that can mimic superpowers, or rather, the abilities of any living being it sees. Only weakened, and even weaker versions. They're extremely rare even in the multiverse."
No sooner had he finished speaking than the little Tuotuo silently flew to Selene's head and then settled down like a fluffy pendant.
A soft, warm touch came from above my head.
Selene instinctively reached out and touched the soft, fluffy thing on her head. It felt surprisingly nice.
"You just... gave it to me like that?" she asked.
Thor nodded. "Of course, I only plan to send out two in total."
Selene asked almost instinctively, "The other one... for Bruce?"
'Give it to Bruce? That kid's probably going to capture this little thing and dissect it for three days and three nights,' Thor thought to himself.
He shook his head, a playful smile on his face, "You know Bruce's personality. The other one is for Damian."
Damian...
That kid who's a carbon copy of Bruce, with a grumpy face but surprisingly innocent.
Selene was stunned for a long time before she recovered from this answer.
She touched the strange creature on her head again, her gaze towards Thor becoming much more complicated.
"So... I'll assume you are Thomas for now," she began, her tone tentative. "You came to see me just to give me such a little thing?"
"Yes." Thor nodded, then leaned forward slightly, his gaze becoming serious. "By the way, let me correct that strange idea of yours."
Selene's body stiffened slightly. "What are you thinking?"
Thor didn't answer directly; his gaze passed over Selene and looked out the window at the twinkling lights of Gotham City.
" Selene, I've heard that thought that keeps swirling in your mind."
His voice was calm, yet it struck Selene's heart like a heavy hammer.
"You're afraid that once Bruce finds happiness, Batman will die. You think it's the bullet that night, and the deaths of me and Martha, that's fueling his anger, driving him into the darkness every night."
Selene's breath caught in her throat for a moment.
"Tragedy is merely the match that ignites the flame," Thor's voice continued. "When the match burns out, the flame must be sustained by something else."
" Bruce initially chose to become Batman because of his past injuries. But over the years, what has sustained him through countless trials and tribulations has never been the pain of those days."
"It's because he didn't want to see other children go through the nightmare he had experienced. It's because he had compassion for the ordinary people in this city."
This feeling won't disappear just because he has a lover or a family.
Thor turned his gaze back to Selene, and this time, his words were like a sharp knife, precisely piercing the armor she had always used for self-sacrifice.
"You're always sacrificing yourself to protect Batman. It's as if Bruce only has two choices: either be a tormented vigilante or be a happy man."
"But why must we make choices?"
"Doesn't Bruce deserve both of them?"
"Must your happiness be a sacrifice to Gotham?"
The barrage of questions left Selene completely stunned. She opened her mouth, but couldn't utter a single word.
Yes, why?
She had never thought about this question.
She was used to sacrifice, used to walking in the shadows, and used to putting the happiness of others before her own.
"My death gave birth to Batman." Thor stood up, his voice carrying an undeniable resolve, "But I absolutely do not want my death to continue to ensnare my son's future."
" Batman doesn't need to live in loss forever, and you don't need to offer your love as a sacrifice to Gotham."
Before Selene could even respond, Thor's figure began to blur, as if merging into the air.
A second before he completely disappeared, his last words drifted over.
"Watch out for Holly Robin; she's been psychologically manipulated by Bane's people."
Selene looked up abruptly. The apartment was empty except for the night breeze blowing in from the window and the warm little thing above her head.
Everything seemed like a bizarre and fantastical dream.
Just then, a sharp whooshing sound suddenly came from the direction of the balcony.
Two figures landed on the balcony, one after the other.
The tall, red and blue figure is Superman Clark.
The figure shrouded in black shadow beside him was none other than Batman.
Almost the instant Bruce landed, he flashed into the living room. Ignoring the strange energy remaining in the room, he rushed straight to Selene, grabbed her shoulders, and carefully examined her from head to toe with his bloodshot eyes.
"Are you alright?" His voice was hoarse with anxiety.
He breathed a sigh of relief after confirming that Selene had no injuries and was breathing steadily. He then turned his head and coldly scanned the entire room.
What did Thomas say to you?
Selene finally came to her senses.
Looking at the tension and concern in Bruce's eyes, and recalling his earlier words, a hard corner of her heart seemed to quietly melt away.
She shook her head and said, "It's nothing, it seems... she just came to see me."
"What do you mean?" Bruce frowned, clearly not believing the explanation.
That man made such a commotion; it couldn't have been just to "come and see."
Selene didn't explain further, but simply raised her hand and carefully lifted the little guy who was lying on her head.
Tuotuo shook its head in her palm, its little cape fluttering behind it, and stared at Bruce with its big, expressionless eyes.
Bruce's expression froze for a moment.
Selene handed him the mini Batman figure, a complex yet slightly mischievous smile on her face.
"Hey, Bruce," she said, "This is your father's engagement gift to us."
