The atmosphere in the alleyway instantly shifted from a slightly melancholic warmth to a tense standoff because of Jean Grey's words.
Peter-B was the first to react. He looked at the young red-haired woman and instinctively adopted a guarded posture.
He couldn't understand why this girl, who looked about his age, would release such a dangerous entity Hulk.
He could sense that Jean Grey had no trace of technological equipment on her, which meant that she controlled the Hulk using her own abilities.
This made his heart sink.
Anyone who can mentally control the Hulk is definitely not a kind person.
"Why did you do that?" Peter-B's tone was accusatory. "Do you know how many casualties Hulk could cause if he went out of control? That's a school!"
Jean Grey didn't even lift an eyelid. She merely glanced coldly at Peter-B, her tone full of sarcasm and indifference. "What's it to me?"
"You—" Peter-B choked on his words.
He had seen countless villains: some for power, some for money, and some madmen who were simply driven by the desire to destroy the world.
But this was the first time he had ever seen someone so completely indifferent to the damage and potential casualties they had caused, without even the slightest emotional fluctuation.
This is not evil at all; it is the ultimate indifference.
Just as Peter-B was about to continue his sermon, trying to awaken the other person's conscience, Robert had been silent all along, spoke up.
" Peter, there's no need to ask." His voice was calm, as if he were merely stating a trivial matter.
"Her name is Jean Grey. Her ability is probably mind control. She and her sister were feared and abandoned by their family from a young age because of this ability, and were moved to many foster homes, eventually relying on each other for survival."
Robert paused, his gaze lingering on Jean's face, and continued, "Not long ago, her sister was captured by the Damage Control and has been missing ever since. She wants to control the Hulk, simply to use Hulk power to go to the Damage Control's headquarters and find her sister. Her only clue is a code name: V-Max."
As Robert spoke each word, the sarcasm and indifference on Jean Grey's face shattered, replaced by raw shock and fear.
She looked up abruptly, staring intently at Robert, her reddish-brown eyes filled with wariness and disbelief.
How could this man know about these things... these secrets buried deep in her heart?
"How... do you know all this?" Her voice was dry, with a slight, almost imperceptible tremor.
Robert shrugged, his expression unchanged, but his words sent a chill down Jean's spine. "I saw it in your head."
"You..." Qin's pupils suddenly contracted.
She has always used her Telepathy as a weapon to spy on other people's thoughts and manipulate their minds.
This is the only support she and her sister have in this cruel world.
But now, this man casually tells her that he just did the same thing to her, and she didn't even realize it!
A feeling of utter humiliation and panic, as if she had been completely exposed, instantly gripped her heart.
For the first time, she realized that the abilities she was so proud of were utterly vulnerable in the face of true power.
"Jean Grey..." Peter-A muttered to himself, stroking his chin. "That name sounds so familiar... I feel like I've heard it somewhere before..."
"Dad said that if you encounter a powerful person you don't know, you should find out their background first!"
Morgan Stark said crisply, then raised his wrist and slapped the small nano bracelet. " Allen, search for the name Jean Grey."
A pale blue holographic projection immediately appeared from the bracelet, forming a clear data panel in mid-air.
[Jean Grey]
[Identity: Omega-level Mutant, host of the Phoenix Force ]
[Affiliation: X-Men ]
[Abilities: Telepathy, psychic abilities, mind control, matter decomposition...]
[experience:...]
"Oh! I remember now!" Peter-A slapped his thigh. "No wonder it looked so familiar! It's Rachel's mom!"
He remembered, Morgan's best friend, the little Mutants girl Rachel Summers, whose mother was named Jean Grey.
The X-Men he had seen before were from another universe, mature and composed, not this prickly street girl in front of him.
No wonder I couldn't match it up at first.
"Is she strong?" Peter-B couldn't help but ask, looking at the long list of abilities.
Robert nodded. "Very strong. But the one in front of us probably hasn't fully awakened yet. Otherwise, I wouldn't have been able to read her thoughts so easily."
Hearing their conversation, Dr. Banner, who had been silent until now, also came over.
He looked at Jean Grey, whose face was wary and vulnerable, his expression complex. He sighed and said:
"Kid, if you just want to find someone, I might be able to help you. I can go directly to the Damage Control... just hope they don't throw me into a mental hospital again because I destroyed another building."
His tone carried a hint of self-deprecation and helplessness.
"It's not that complicated." Peter-A shook his head, directly interrupting Dr. Banner's "self-sacrificing" speech.
He raised his hand and gave the command to his suit's AI: " Karen, hack into the Damage Control's network and find me a file named Sarah Gray, as well as all documents related to the 'V-max' project."
"Wait," Peter-B instinctively grabbed him, "Crashing into official organizations' networks like that... isn't that a bit much?"
Peter-A gave him a look that said, "You're still too young," and said indifferently, "Special circumstances require special handling. Do you think an organization that dares to arbitrarily arrest Metahuman for experiments would be afraid of ordinary people appealing through official channels?"
Peter-B fell silent.
He knew that his other self was right.
Sometimes, procedural justice cannot solve all problems.
Peter-A's AI is extremely efficient; in less than ten seconds, streams of information rapidly flowed through the inside of his mask.
Soon, he found Jean Grey's sister's file in an encrypted folder.
Sarah Gray, female, 21 years old, Mutants, abilities... The information is very detailed, and there is even a photo.
Peter-A's gaze continued downwards, landing on the status bar at the very end of the file.
The two words there made his gaze freeze instantly.
He looked up at the red-haired girl at the end of the alley, who was gazing at them with a mixture of hope and fear, and for a moment, he didn't know what to say.
Jean Grey keenly noticed the change in his expression, and her heart clenched.
"Have you found her?" she asked urgently, her voice shrill with tension. "My sister... where is she?"
Peter-A. remained silent.
He looked into Jean Grey's expectant eyes, and finally spoke with difficulty, his voice low and somber.
"I found her file..."
He paused for a moment, and under Qin's almost breathless gaze, he spoke the cruel truth.
"... In the 'Status' section, it says 'Dead'."
