From the memories of those chunks of flesh, HeLa Cell saw a group of heavily armed people accompanied by a pack of strange black mechanical dogs.
They were constantly searching for and destroying chunks of his flesh. What drew HeLa Cell's attention even more was that these humans were steadily closing in on his main body.
In HeLa Cell's current state, he was about the same as when he had first entered the city. He could handle ordinary humans, but against a group of heavily armed special forces soldiers, he stood no chance at all.
What should I do now?!
The thought echoed through HeLa Cell's mind. He began going over his memories of encounters with humans, trying to find a way to stay alive.
Suddenly!
In those few brief memories, HeLa Cell discovered that humans were almost unfailingly kind to their own kind and would even save people who had been attacked.
So if he took on the appearance of a human, HeLa Cell might just survive.
With that thought, HeLa Cell's body immediately began melting into a mass of thick black liquid, then started writhing into shape. After all, there was no time left to think it over.
He had to transform immediately, and HeLa Cell had also discovered in his memories that humans showed greater kindness toward women and younger people.
So he also decided what kind of human he would become.
The black liquid began to writhe slowly, gradually forming a humanoid shape. Then skin, hair, and facial features slowly took form...
Meanwhile, after burning a chunk of HeLa Cell's flesh, the captain of the Special Investigation Team muttered to himself.
"What the hell is this thing? It was blown to pieces and it's still alive. And these fragments seem to be heading toward the same target." He looked in the direction HeLa Cell was wriggling, his eyes narrowing.
"Bzz... reporting to the captain... reporting to the captain... the biological sample we collected... is currently showing extremely strong activity... should we cool it down..."
A teammate's question came through the captain's radio.
After thinking for a moment, the captain replied over the radio:
"Cool it down."
"Roger... roger..."
After receiving the reply, the captain looked in the direction the chunk of flesh had been moving. His expression grew grave, and he strode quickly that way.
The captain had a feeling there was a reason the chunks of flesh were moving in the same direction. Whatever the reason, he had to go and investigate.
Because that was his responsibility.
The captain ran on with the mechanical dog, and before long, he reached the city center.
The once-bustling city center had now been reduced to ruins by HeLa Cell's parasitism and the missile bombardment.
The ground was covered in building debris and bloodstains that could have belonged to either humans or HeLa Cell. Thick smoke and dust hung in the air, making the surroundings look dark and hazy, with an eerie edge.
The special forces captain gripped a pitch-black great scythe and slowed his pace, walking slowly through the smoke.
He kept watch on his surroundings at all times. After all, any danger in a place with such low visibility could be extremely deadly.
The captain switched on his radio and called for support from the teammates nearby.
"This is Sun Hai. I've arrived at the city center. Visibility is extremely low here, and there may be some potential dangers. Requesting support from nearby team members."
"Roger, Captain..."
"Roger, coming right away~ Captain..."
The team members who received the message answered one after another.
