After sending his location to his teammates, Sun Hai continued forward.
After Sun Hai had spent nearly ten minutes exploring the ruins, the scout robot dog beside him suddenly sounded an alarm.
"Possible life-form detected ahead! Possible life-form detected ahead! Caution! Caution!"
Sun Hai glanced at the robot dog, then looked ahead.
He switched on the thermal imaging function in his goggles, and it immediately revealed a heat source a hundred or two hundred meters away. It appeared to be a living creature.
Sun Hai told the robot dog to stay where it was and stand by, then picked up his gear and slowly approached.
As he drew closer, the shape of the creature shown by the thermal imaging gradually became clearer, but Sun Hai's expression grew increasingly grave.
The thing shown by the thermal imaging didn't seem to be a lump of flesh like the monster. Instead, it looked like a person?
Even so, Sun Hai didn't let his guard down in the slightest. After all, he had seen the monster's savage appearance in the footage. Who knew whether this was its disguise?
He approached slowly, closing the distance bit by bit.
100 meters...
50 meters...
30 meters...
When he reached ten meters away, Sun Hai could clearly see what lay before him. It was no monster, but a person-a very pretty girl, at that.
Sun Hai lowered the hand holding his weapon and looked at the girl in puzzlement.
He simply couldn't understand why a girl would be here, completely unharmed, in such a dangerous place. It made no sense at all.
The girl directly in front of Sun Hai was sitting naked on the ground, curled up and hugging her knees. When she saw him, she merely glanced up at him before lowering her head again. Her face was expressionless, and she looked utterly vacant.
Sun Hai glanced at the coat he was wearing. After thinking for a moment, he sighed and decided not to take it off.
Then he took out his walkie-talkie and began issuing orders to his teammates:
"Something's come up. I've run into a strange girl here. Bring some clothes, a coat or something, when you come over. Have them get medical supplies ready at the armored vehicle too."
After giving his orders, Sun Hai looked at the strange girl, but felt it wasn't quite right to stare at her.
He turned his head slightly away and questioned her in a somewhat awkward tone.
"Um, miss, why are you here?"
The girl: "..."
"Then what's your name?"
The girl: "..."
Seeing that the girl hadn't reacted at all to either of his questions-not even blinking-Sun Hai felt a little disappointed, but also formed a preliminary assessment of her condition.
Either the girl had just lost a loved one or suffered some other shock and had now withdrawn into herself, unwilling to speak.
Or there was something wrong with her mind.
In any case, he first ruled out the possibility that she simply didn't want to talk to him.
Having reached that conclusion, Sun Hai stood where he was and began to wait.
Before long, the other team members arrived in an orderly fashion.
One of them was carrying a bulging backpack.
"Holy shit! There really is someone in a place like this!"
"Watch your mouth!"
Sun Hai glared at the team member.
"Hehe, got it, captain."
"All right, give me the clothes first."
Sun Hai rolled his eyes at him and took the clothes from the large bag.
Then, a little awkwardly, he draped a coat over the girl.
The coat wasn't particularly large, but it was enough to cover the girl's private parts and keep her from being exposed.
Then Sun Hai picked her up and headed back.
"Life comes first. We're pulling out."
