Bibi Dong: Get Out! An Yi: We Haven't Seen Each Other in Twelve Years, and This Is How You Treat Me?
Night fell.
The streets of Spirit City gradually grew quiet, but Pope Mountain remained ablaze with lights.
An Yi walked in front, with a sneaky little girl following behind him.
Qian Renxue looked around, glancing up at the buildings ahead from time to time. The closer they got to Saintess Hall, the slower she walked.
At last, she couldn't help tugging on An Yi's sleeve.
"Teacher."
An Yi looked back at her. "What is it?"
Qian Renxue swallowed and asked quietly, "Are you really sure about this?"
An Yi raised an eyebrow. "Sure about what?"
"Taking me to see Mom, of course!" Qian Renxue lowered her voice. "Mom's perception is terrifying. All of Saintess Hall is within its range. Last time I sneaked in, she found me before I'd taken more than a few steps."
"Teacher, if she finds me, do you think she'll beat me out again?"
An Yi glanced at her. "Haven't you already been through that once?"
Qian Renxue: "..."
Why did that sound so much like he was asking for a beating?
She puffed out her cheeks and was about to retort, but An Yi spoke first.
"I'll go in first. Find somewhere to hide, and come out when I tell you to."
Qian Renxue froze. "Hide? Mom's perception covers such a huge area. Where am I supposed to hide?"
An Yi thought for a moment. "Anywhere. Just do your best to stay hidden."
Qian Renxue looked doubtful. "Will that work?"
An Yi smiled. "As long as you're not too brazen, she won't expose you even if she finds you."
Qian Renxue opened her mouth.
What did he mean, don't be too brazen?
Was she usually that brazen?
But on second thought, she felt her teacher had a bit of a point.
After all, though Mom didn't like her coming over of her own accord, she wouldn't keep an eye on her every moment of the day.
As long as she wasn't caught on the spot, there should still be room to turn things around.
At that thought, Qian Renxue nodded reluctantly.
"All right, but what about you? How do you know where Mom is? Saintess Hall is so big, and there are so many courtyards inside. You can't go searching them one by one, can you?"
An Yi looked up at the night sky.
"The moon is my eye."
"Huh?" Qian Renxue froze.
She followed An Yi's gaze upward.
The moon hung in the night sky as usual. Other than that, there didn't seem to be anything special about it.
Qian Renxue scratched her head. "Teacher, the moon is your eye... What does that mean?"
An Yi didn't explain. He simply reached out and rubbed her head.
"You'll find out later."
With that, he turned and walked toward Saintess Hall.
Qian Renxue stood where she was, watching his retreating figure, and couldn't help muttering under her breath.
"There he goes again..."
He said baffling things all day long, yet whenever she asked him about them, he refused to explain.
If she hadn't known she couldn't beat him, Qian Renxue would have pounced on him and demanded answers long ago.
An Yi stepped into Saintess Hall.
The moment he entered Saintess Hall, he brought his Moon Martial Soul into alignment with the bright moon in the night sky.
It was an ability he had gradually mastered after the Great Yin Heaven-Devouring Dragon evolved.
Normally, his Moon Martial Soul still retained the form of a bright moon, while the true Great Yin Heaven-Devouring Dragon remained hidden within the lunar disk.
When he linked his Martial Soul to the bright moon in the sky, the range of his Moonlight Domain could expand greatly.
More importantly, he could use the Great Yin Heaven-Devouring Dragon's perspective to look down on the area covered by moonlight.
In a sense, it wasn't much different from a god's-eye view.
Let alone Saintess Hall, the whole of Spirit City was now within his field of vision.
Of course, the ability had its own limitations.
But at least within Saintess Hall, finding one person was no difficult task.
An Yi quickly pinpointed Bibi Dong's location.
Deep within Saintess Hall was a secluded little garden.
Many flowers and plants grew there, some of which had a calming effect.
It was clear that these weren't there for decoration, but had been specially prepared by Bibi Dong.
After all, she had returned from Slaughter City less than a year ago.
The killing aura brought by Divine Slaughter's Domain took time to gradually adjust to. If she couldn't keep her emotions under control, the killing intent might turn around and affect her mind.
That was one of the reasons Bibi Dong had lost control of her emotions last night.
An Yi followed the path into the garden.
The night breeze swept across the grass.
Not far away, a figure in purple sat cross-legged on the grass, eyes closed, seemingly regulating the Soul Power within her body.
It was Bibi Dong.
Sensing someone approaching, she slowly opened her eyes.
The moment she saw who it was, she frowned.
"Why are you here?"
With his hands behind his back, An Yi strolled over to her.
"You came to see me last night, and I came to see you tonight. Isn't that perfectly normal?"
Bibi Dong's gaze turned cold. "Get out."
With that, she closed her eyes again, looking as though she didn't want to pay him any more attention.
But An Yi acted as though he hadn't heard her. He walked straight over and sat down beside her.
Bibi Dong's eyelid twitched.
A few seconds later, she opened her eyes again.
"I told you to get out!"
An Yi turned his head and looked into her eyes.
"If I don't leave, will you kill me?"
Bibi Dong didn't answer.
An Yi laughed to himself.
"Back on Sea God Island, I was lucky to survive. It wasn't easy getting back, but now it's this hard just to see you."
"What, we haven't seen each other in twelve years, and you just have to drive me out?"
Bibi Dong's fingers trembled slightly. She turned her head, avoiding An Yi's gaze.
"What exactly do you want?"
An Yi looked at her, the smile gradually fading from his face.
"I only wanted to see you again."
"During all those years on Sea God Island, I thought about you every day."
"I imagined so many times what it would be like when we saw each other again."
"I thought you'd be happy."
"At the very least, I thought you'd ask me how I'd gotten through those years, or how I'd managed to cultivate to Soul Saint in such a short time."
An Yi paused.
"But you didn't ask anything. Even seeing me seems to be something you can hardly accept."
He looked down at the distance between them. It was only half a step, yet it was as though twelve years lay between them.
"Even when I swallow my pride and come to you, you still want to drive me away."
Bibi Dong's breath hitched slightly.
An Yi continued, "But back then, you were the one who came to me and wanted to take me as your disciple."
"You were also the one who told me yourself that you'd protect me from then on."
Bibi Dong slowly closed her eyes, not daring to look at An Yi.
That six-year-old child had already possessed talent far beyond his peers, yet he was still like a little waif with no one to depend on.
The first time she saw An Yi, he had been on the shore fighting over seashells with several children much older than him.
Even though he'd gotten the worst of it, he had still stubbornly refused to back down.
Back then, An Yi talked tough, but in reality, he couldn't even be sure of getting a full meal.
Her heart ached a little for him, so she offered to take him away.
From that day on, the child had come to regard her as someone he could depend on.
But later...
Bibi Dong's fingertips dug deep into her palm.
"So, do you hate me now?"
"Do you blame me for insisting on bringing you aboard the ship and nearly getting you killed on Sea God Island?"
An Yi was silent for a moment, then shook his head.
"At first, I did blame you."
"After all, I warned you back then that the trip to Sea God Island wouldn't end well, but no one believed me."
"In the end, not only did I fail to stop you, I was brought aboard the ship too."
At that, he couldn't help laughing.
"To be honest, I really wanted to curse someone out back then."
Bibi Dong said nothing.
An Yi put away his smile and looked at her again.
"But later, I stopped thinking that way."
"If I hadn't wanted to come back and find you one day, I might not have been able to hold on for ten years on Sea God Island."
"Cultivating for ten years as though they were a single day, climbing the Sea God's Light day after day."
"Many times, I was so exhausted I didn't want to move another inch."
"But whenever I thought that someone was still waiting for me to come back, I felt I could hold on a little longer."
An Yi paused.
"Of course, I also know you never promised you'd wait for me."
"So I never blamed you for not going to Sea God Island to look for me."
"But now that I'm back, why won't you even say another word to me?"
