Background / History

Childhood in Vast Sea City

Before meeting Bibi Dong, An Yi struggled to obtain food and survive in Vast Sea City. He fought other children over seashells, scavenged valuables, and sometimes had his finds stolen. Bibi Dong first encountered him fighting older children on the shore and offered to take him away as her disciple 3 7.

Their time together lasted less than a month, but An Yi remembered it as the happiest period of his childhood. Bibi Dong listened to his unusual ideas, argued playfully with him, and promised to protect him. Despite his warnings that Sea God Island was dangerous, she brought him aboard Spirit Hall’s expedition 2 3 7 15.

Life on Sea God Island

An Yi survived Spirit Hall’s failed expedition by telling the island’s residents that he had been kidnapped and forced aboard as child labor. Bo Saixi spared the six-year-old and allowed him to settle on the island. Although the Sacred Pillar Trial normally opened only at eighteen, his talent and persuasive manner earned him early access to cultivation in the Sea God’s Light 1.

He spent roughly ten years repeatedly climbing and training under its pressure. His Sun and Moon Martial Souls supported continuous cultivation by replenishing different aspects of his strength during the day and night. Thoughts of returning to Bibi Dong helped him persist through exhaustion 4 7.

At seventeen, he became a Soul Saint. According to his later account, he defeated Sea Dragon Douluo after absorbing his Seventh Soul Ring and rose to a position second only to Bo Saixi on the island 1 26 30.

Departure and Recruitment

An Yi left Sea God Island at eighteen rather than undertake a trial that might bind him to the island as a guardian. He also knew that he lacked the Sea God’s Heart required for the Sea God Inheritance 1 29.

On his eighteenth birthday, after returning to Vast Sea City, he received his golden finger: the Kong Deming template, the Level 10 Soul Guidance Grand Library, and twin Martial Soul evolution. Qian Daoliu encountered him on the coast while he was examining his evolved Moon Martial Soul and subsequently brought him to Spirit City as Qian Renxue’s teacher 1.

Reunion with Bibi Dong

After returning to Spirit City, An Yi confronted Bibi Dong over her avoidance of him. She had believed him dead after seeing him swallowed by the waves twelve years earlier. Although she initially insisted that they had no future together, he continued visiting her and used moonlight to calm her unstable killing intent 3 7 8.

Their renewed closeness also allowed Qian Renxue to hug her sleeping mother for the first time. An Yi nevertheless resisted becoming an unconditional intermediary: he later challenged Qian Renxue to consider Bibi Dong’s wishes rather than repeatedly demand her affection 9 17.

Conflict with Qian Xunji

An Yi’s refusal to accept Qian Xunji’s authority escalated from verbal confrontations to violence at Saintess Hall. He slapped Qian Xunji twice, evaded a punch with Lunar Eclipse Shadow Transformation, and moved to protect Qian Renxue from a sacred sword strike. He then deliberately withdrew his shield and suffered a deep wound 14 25.

After restoring the injury, An Yi admitted that the self-injury ploy was intended to discourage Qian Renxue from constantly clinging to him. He also expressed a desire for revenge against Qian Xunji over Spirit Hall’s attack on Sea God Island. Qian Daoliu promised to provide an explanation for the incident 26 27.

Cultivation Armor and the Inheritance Dispute

While ostensibly secluded to recover, An Yi stayed with Bibi Dong and developed a cultivation-assisting Soul Tool with her. Their discussions prompted the Grand Library to generate more advanced designs. Seven days of design work and three days of construction produced the first-generation Adaptive Soul Guidance Cultivation Armor 28 30.

Testing showed that it could challenge Bibi Dong, but not An Yi’s disproportionately strong body. He subsequently explained that his care for her involved both his attachment to the person she had once been and his ambition to become Pope. He urged her to abandon the Rakshasa inheritance and offered to help her obtain the Asura God’s inheritance instead; no such transfer is completed in the supplied chapters 31 32.

As a teacher, he emphasizes discipline, personal responsibility, and practical demonstrations. He refuses to indulge Qian Renxue’s entitlement, requires obedience as the condition for helping her visit Bibi Dong, and argues that respect includes restraint toward another person’s wishes 12 15 17 18.

He is teasing, provocative, and willing to manipulate appearances. His self-injury ploy against Qian Xunji is a particularly costly example: afterward, he complains that the pain made the scheme a bad bargain 6 14 26.

His attachment to Bibi Dong combines tenderness with regret. He stays beside her without forcing her to recount painful experiences, but later admits that he hates his former powerlessness and no longer wants to act like a coward 8 32.

Personal freedom is central to his ambitions. He rejects both permanent service on Sea God Island and the prospect of becoming a god merely to answer to stronger gods. He would rather become powerful enough in the mortal world to live without being controlled 1 29.
