Background / History
Tang Sect and Shrek Academy
Tang Ya belongs to the destroyed Tang Sect and wants to rebuild it. During their journey to obtain Soul Rings, Mu Sheng promises to help her destroy the Iron Blood Sect and restore the Tang Sect 2.
Her Martial Soul’s evolution into Dark Blue Silver Grass initially leaves her convinced that Shrek Academy will reject her. Mu Sheng instead defends her right to live, arguing that awakening a Wicked Martial Soul is not itself wrongdoing. According to Tang Ya, his intervention also leads their Shrek Academy to gradually accept Wicked Soul Masters who have committed no cruel or immoral acts 14.
Star Dou Great Forest
Tang Ya accompanies Mu Sheng when they encounter Qian Renxue, who introduces herself as Bibi Xue and claims to have lost her memories. Mu Sheng introduces Tang Ya as his girlfriend and places her behind him while questioning the stranger 3 4.
After reaching Huo Yuhao, Tang Ya witnesses the Sky Dream Ice Silkworm’s sacrifice and learns about Wisdom Soul Rings. She inadvertently reveals Mu Sheng’s second Martial Soul, Shendu, while defending his supposed ability to know the past and future. She later asks for a Wisdom Soul Ring of her own, and he promises her a Ferocious Beast one 9 11 12.
For her fourth ring, Mu Sheng finds a ten-thousand-year Shadow Vine Snake whose darkness attribute matches her Martial Soul. Tang Ya refuses his offer to weaken it first, restrains and poisons it with her Soul Skills, then lands a lethal shot with a Repeating Armor-Piercing Needle 15 16.
Mu Sheng extracts the snake’s soul before she absorbs its ring. Tang Ya accepts his untested method without hesitation. He persuades the snake to retain its intelligence as her Soul Spirit rather than have its consciousness erased, then merges it into the ring. Tang Ya completes the absorption at Rank 44 with two new Soul Skills 17 18.
Soul Skill Tests and Departure
Tang Ya deliberately provokes the Sky Dream Ice Silkworm into having Huo Yuhao demonstrate his abilities. During the attack demonstrations, the silkworm secretly strengthens Mental Interference and Soul Shock, but Tang Ya withstands both. She reassures Huo Yuhao that his attacks are powerful despite her unusual resistance; Mu Sheng confronts the silkworm over the interference 20 22 24.
When Mu Sheng and Qian Renxue prepare to travel toward the forest’s dangerous core region, Tang Ya volunteers to escort Huo Yuhao to Shrek Academy. Before leaving, she mischievously encourages Mu Sheng to pursue “Bibi Xue” 26.
Animated Douluo II Counterpart
A separate Tang Ya watches these events through the Sky Screen alongside Bei Bei and Huo Yuhao. She initially rejects the possibility that the people onscreen are their counterparts, citing differences in appearance and Martial Souls. She and Bei Bei later stop Huo Yuhao from fleeing Shrek and persuade him to seek protection from Bei Bei’s great-great-grandfather 2 3 7 9.
This Tang Ya has only recently become a Soul Elder when Mu Sheng’s companion reveals that she is already at the realm’s peak. Learning about Dark Blue Silver Grass makes her recognize their connection and wonder whether evolving her own Martial Soul could produce similar progress 14.
She asks whether her Shrek Academy might also accept innocent Wicked Soul Masters. Xuan Zi rejects the policy, and Mu En publicly agrees despite privately approving of Mu Sheng’s reasoning. The refusal devastates her. Watching her counterpart receive protection, a Wisdom Soul Ring, and powerful new abilities subsequently deepens her jealousy and dissatisfaction with Bei Bei 15 19.
Appearance
- Hair: Long purple-black hair tied in a high ponytail, with an oversized rose-red bow at its base 3.
- Eyes: Bright, lively red eyes 3.
- Clothing: A fitted pink outfit decorated with small leopard-print details; she also wears pink combat clothing during the Shadow Vine Snake hunt 3 16.
- Expression: An expressive face that readily reveals her feelings, with a smile that lights up her features 3.
- Counterpart distinction: The animated Douluo II Tang Ya explicitly identifies her own hair as black, unlike the purple-black hair of Mu Sheng’s companion 3.
Personality
Tang Ya is openly affectionate toward Mu Sheng, frequently holding his arm, praising him, and calling him “Brother Sheng.” Her trust rests particularly on his protection after her Martial Soul evolved. She calls him her “god” and accepts the risks of his experimental Soul Ring method because she believes in his record of success 2 14 18.
Her affection does not prevent her from seeking independence in combat. She insists on testing her own strength against the Shadow Vine Snake and argues that courage is necessary to become a powerful Soul Master. She also wants to keep improving so that the other women around Mu Sheng do not outshine her 16 18.
She enjoys teasing others and can use that playfulness deliberately: her dismissive comments about the Sky Dream Ice Silkworm’s four Soul Skills are intended to draw out a demonstration. With Huo Yuhao, however, she is encouraging rather than cruel, praising his potential after his attacks fail to injure her 20 24.
Tang Ya remains protective of the Tang Sect’s legacy. Although she privately considers Tang San’s destruction of Slaughter City improper, she resents Qian Renxue insulting him and briefly refuses to answer her questions 4 5.
Abilities & Skills
Dark Blue Silver Grass
Her evolved Martial Soul produces purple-black grass with darkness, corrosion, and devouring properties 14 16 19.
- First Soul Skill — Shadow Entanglement: Sends grass blades out of the ground to bind a target. Darkness-attribute Soul Power strengthens the restraints 16.
- Second Soul Skill — Poison of Corrosion: Releases venom from the binding grass, allowing it to seep between scales and corrode the target’s defenses 16.
- Third Soul Skill — Shadow Cage: Weaves surrounding grass into a dense enclosure. It withstands the Shadow Vine Snake’s struggles while the venom continues working 16.
- Devouring power: Becomes substantially stronger after she absorbs the Shadow Vine Snake’s Wisdom Soul Ring 19.
Blue Silver Devouring Domain
One of the two abilities granted by her fourth Soul Ring. Dark Blue Silver Grass spreads into a dark-purple domain approximately five or six zhang across 19.
- Continuously drains the Soul Power and life force of targets within its range.
- Weakens trapped opponents over time.
- Causes fallen leaves and dead branches to visibly shrivel during its demonstration 19.
Dark Blue Silver Spear
Her fourth ring’s other ability combines Dark Blue Silver Grass with Little Vine to form a snake-headed lance over a zhang long 19.
- Carries both corrosive and devouring properties.
- Can attack at range and return to her afterward.
- Shatters a large bluestone and pierces two thick dead trees in its demonstration before transforming back into Little Vine 19.
Wisdom Soul Ring and Little Vine
Mu Sheng creates her fourth ring by merging the Shadow Vine Snake’s preserved soul into its ten-thousand-year Soul Ring 17 18.
- Avoids Soul Shock: Separating the snake’s soul before absorption removes the Soul Shock ordinarily associated with absorbing the ring 17.
- Retains intelligence: Little Vine keeps his consciousness and becomes noticeably clearer-minded after the fusion 18 19.
- Growth potential: The ring and Soul Spirit can grow stronger alongside Tang Ya 18.
- Independent combat: Little Vine can use all her Soul Skills and judge when to activate them without requiring her divided attention 19.
- Symbiosis: Tang Ya describes their bond as a symbiotic relationship, effectively giving her an additional fighting partner 19.
Spiritual Resistance
Mu Sheng’s special training gives Tang Ya unusually resilient Soul Power and resistance to spiritual attacks. When their Martial Souls merged during their intimacy, Shendu also transferred part of its undying-soul resistance to her 22.
- Mental Interference causes only a brief distortion in her vision, even after the Sky Dream Ice Silkworm secretly strengthens it 24.
- A further-amplified Soul Shock makes her tremble slightly but does not incapacitate her 24.
- Her resistance is exceptional for her rank, not proof that Huo Yuhao’s attacks are weak; she tells him another Soul Ancestor would have been knocked down 24.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Repeating Armor-Piercing Needle: A black cylindrical Soul Tool designed to penetrate scaled and armored Soul Beasts. Tang Ya prepares it specifically for the hunt and uses it to strike the Shadow Vine Snake’s vulnerable point 16.
- Storage Soul Tool: Stores the Repeating Armor-Piercing Needle before she draws it during battle 16.
Relationships
- Mu Sheng — Boyfriend, protector, and trainer. He defends her after her Martial Soul evolves, promises to help rebuild the Tang Sect, and creates her Wisdom Soul Ring 2 3 14 18 22.
- Little Vine — Soul Spirit and symbiotic combat partner. Originally the Shadow Vine Snake she kills, he retains his intelligence and can fight independently using her skills 18 19.
- Huo Yuhao — Younger acquaintance whom she encourages and escorts toward Shrek Academy. He addresses her as “Sister Tang Ya” 24 26.
- Qian Renxue / Bibi Xue — Traveling companion whom Tang Ya knows by her assumed name. Tang Ya questions her supposed amnesia, demonstrates her new skills to her, and later encourages Mu Sheng to pursue her 6 16 19 26.
- Sky Dream Ice Silkworm / Tian Meng — A frequent target of her teasing. Their rivalry leads to his secretly amplifying Huo Yuhao’s attacks against her and Mu Sheng demanding compensation 20 24.
- Zhang Lexuan — Referred to affectionately as “Sister Lexuan.” Tang Ya declares that she intends to be Mu Sheng’s “second wife,” below Lexuan; this is her stated ambition, not confirmation of a completed marriage 26.
- Tang San — Revered as the Tang Sect’s ancestor. Tang Ya defends his reputation, but the supplied account does not establish her as his biological descendant 3 4 5.
