Background / History

Previous Life

Tang San was an outer disciple of the Tang Sect in a wuxia world. He stole secret techniques that outer disciples were forbidden to practice and was pursued by the sect's elders. Unable to escape, he jumped from a cliff, declaring that he would prove his resolve through death 28.

His soul subsequently entered the Douluo Continent and became Tang Hao's son. Tang Fan distinguishes two interpretations—reincarnation and possession of Tang Hao's original child—and explicitly states that the original book does not settle the question 28.

Birth and Family

In the original story, Tang San's mother was Ah Yin, a Hundred-Thousand-Year Blue Silver Emperor who had transformed into human form. Spirit Hall discovered her identity during her pregnancy and pursued her and Tang Hao 7.

A few days after Tang San's birth, Qian Xunji's forces cornered the family. Ah Yin sacrificed herself, enabling Tang Hao to become a Titled Douluo. Tang Hao severely wounded Qian Xunji but suffered backlash from his own techniques, then escaped with the newborn Tang San 7.

Shrek Academy and the Tang Sect

Tang San entered Shrek Academy alongside Xiao Wu, his sworn younger sister and eventual wife. Their seven-person intake became known as the Shrek Seven Devils; Tang Fan credits Tang San's arrival with the academy's subsequent rise 46.

He also established a new Tang Sect on the Douluo Continent, becoming its founding ancestor. Tang Fan criticizes this as appropriating the other world's Bashu Tang Sect legacy: people in Douluo associated the sect with Tang San without knowing where its techniques originated 45.

Conflict with Spirit Hall

Yu Xiaogang, Tang San's teacher, learned about Sea God Island through an expedition undertaken with Bibi Dong. According to Tang Fan, this knowledge later gave Tang San the opportunity to seek the Sea God Inheritance 4 5.

Before becoming a god, Tang San received the sacrifices of Da Ming and Er Ming after Bibi Dong gravely wounded them. His conflict with Bibi Dong also involved Xiao Wu, whose mother Bibi Dong had killed 46 47.

When Qian Renxue confronted him after becoming the Angel God, Tang San pierced her heart with Guanyin's Tears despite having exhausted his Soul Power. She survived the wound. Tang Fan identifies Tang San as the eventual winner among the three gods, with Bibi Dong dead and Qian Renxue's godhood shattered 26 29.

Intervention from the Divine Realm

After ascending, Tang San repeatedly intervened in the lower realm despite the Divine Realm's prohibition on such interference. Tang Fan attributes this to loopholes involving divine successors and the authority granted by Tang San's dual godhood 44 47.

Ten thousand years later, Tang San targeted Huo Yuhao, the era's child of destiny, to acquire the Douluo Continent's destiny. His plan centered on dividing his daughter Tang Wutong's soul 47.

Soul fragment Placement Role in the plan
First fragment Kept with Tang San Preserved Tang Wutong's childhood memories of the Divine Realm 47.
Second fragment Left in Tang Wutong's body Sent to the Clear Sky Sect; without her memories, she became Wang Dong'er and later met Huo Yuhao at Shrek Academy 47.
Third fragment Placed inside the Three-Eyed Golden Lion Targeted the Soul Beast destiny carried by the Emperor Auspicious Beast, who later became Wang Qiu'er 47.

Wang Qiu'er ultimately sacrificed herself for Huo Yuhao, transferring the Soul Beast destiny to him. The three soul fragments reunited as Tang Wutong, whose relationship with Huo Yuhao helped Tang San bind the child of destiny to his family. Tang Fan states that this brought the vast majority of the continent's destiny into Tang San's hands 47.

Tang San also took the soul of Huo Yuhao's deceased mother, Huo Yun'er, to the Divine Realm. Tang Fan presents the purported rescue as leverage over Huo Yuhao 47.

To consolidate his influence, Tang San resurrected Da Ming and Er Ming and installed them as Clear Sky Sect masters. He arranged for Tang Hao to become Plane Master and Ah Yin to replace the Core of Nature—positions Tang Fan says should have served the plane itself. Tang Fan then introduces a further scheme, the Ten-Thousand-Year Plan, without explaining its workings in the supplied account 47.

Personality

Tang Fan portrays Tang San as deeply arrogant and prone to double standards. He interprets Tang San's creation of his own Tang Sect as both appropriation of his former sect's legacy and revenge against the institution that pursued him 45 47.

His strongest criticism concerns Tang San's conduct after becoming a god: manipulating his daughter's soul, exploiting Huo Yuhao's relationships, and placing his parents in positions of planetary authority. These judgments come from Tang Fan's retelling; Tang San has not yet been born to demonstrate this behavior in the current timeline 5 47.

Plot Inertia

Tang Fan uses Tang San to explain plot inertia: the possibility that altered events still converge on the original ending. As an example, he proposes that Tang Hao's son could remain the same otherworldly Tang San even if Ah Yin were not his mother. He presents this as a possible mechanism, not a confirmed outcome, and says Bibi Dong's journey to Blue Star gives her a chance to oppose it 40 41.
