Ji Yuan was born on the Yaoging Star-skiff to Cloud Knight parents. They died during a war against Abundance Followers after using self-destructing starcraft and other weapons to turn the battle; he was subsequently adopted by the senior Cloud Knight officer Suyi and raised alongside Sushang. 7 16

A gifted student from childhood, Ji Yuan trained in both academics and martial arts under Suyi's strict standards. He later left the Yaoging Star-skiff for the Luofu, passed the Tenbo Department examination while still a minor, and became the youngest Trade Official in its history. 15 16

His central motivation is a prophecy that he will become a corpse within a hundred years. Since the prediction allows for death at any point in that period, Ji Yuan treats every threat as potentially fatal and relentlessly pursues skills, allies, equipment, and escape routes. 3 53

On the Luofu, he befriended Yanqing through sword sparring and met Tingyun while inspecting goods for the Resonant Flame trading company.
