Ning Rongrong grew up under the protection of her father, Ning Fengzhi, and the elders she regarded as her grandfathers, Gu Rong and Chen Xin. Ning Fengzhi recognized that constant accommodation had left her confident in abilities rarely tested without a safety net 14.

During the phone trials at the sect, she became absorbed in a sleeping-kitten video and teased Gu Rong when he became equally invested. After learning that phones allowed people to speak with family while away, she quietly began considering that possibility for herself 4 5 13.

She left home with only a letter explaining that she wanted to see the world and attend an academy where the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect’s name would not secure her success.
