Soul Master with Twin Martial Souls 15 24 37 Before becoming a god, possessed Twin Martial Souls and the Soul Bones later transferred to Dai Lingfeng. Unlike Lingfeng, he did not possess a Self Martial Soul Fusion Skill.
Dual godhood: Sea God and Asura God 4 Combined both godhoods in one body. Dai Mubai presents this as the precedent for Lingfeng potentially inheriting two divine positions.
God King 12 20 Attained before the main storyline. His standing greatly exceeds that of Second-Level Gods such as Dai Mubai.

Background

Tang San grew up under Tang Hao, who later admits that his own despondency prevented him from properly caring for his son. By the time Tang Hao wanted to make amends, Tang San had already become a God King 20.

Tang San helped Dai Mubai and his companions reach the Divine Realm through his allotted places for accompanying others. They subsequently inherited divine positions there, a debt Tang San privately uses to justify treating Dai Mubai as subordinate 12.

His past conflict with Bibi Dong remains relevant to his succession plans. Bibi Dong, as the Rakshasa God, once killed Sea God Tang San; Tang San ultimately killed her, leaving the Rakshasa position vacant 81 82.

Personality

Tang San values exceptional talent, but his admiration is inseparable from a desire to control it. He wants both Huo Yuhao, the child of destiny, and Dai Lingfeng, a prodigy capable of performing a Martial Soul Fusion Skill alone, within the Tang family’s influence. Marriage, discipleship, cultivation resources, and emotional dependence are all means toward that goal 11 12 15.

He is highly conscious of appearances. Rather than openly seize Dai Mubai’s successor, he offers protection and cultivation assistance, then instructs Tang Hao to take Lingfeng as a disciple. He similarly presents the deliberate persecution of Huo Yuhao as necessary tempering rather than abuse 15 22.

His generosity often serves several purposes at once. The Soul Bones he gives Lingfeng are valuable compensation, but their Sea God presence also obstructs Dai Mubai and Zhu Zhuqing’s competing inheritances. He dismisses their objections by describing the transfer as an investment in a gifted junior 39.

Tang San nevertheless develops genuine affection and guilt toward Lingfeng. He admires the boy’s maturity and bearing, sees him as another version of himself, and eventually feels that reducing such a genius to Huo Yuhao’s “whetstone” is unfair. This sympathy does not stop him from retaining control over Lingfeng or reconsidering his suitability whenever his independence becomes threatening 70 81.

Abilities & Skills

Dual Godhood and Divine Authority

  • Sea God and Asura God: Holds both divine positions in one body 4.
  • God King standing: Regards Dai Mubai’s threats as ineffective because of the gulf between a God King and a Second-Level God 12.
  • Lower-realm observation: Monitors the Douluo Continent and shares its view with Dai Mubai. Such monitoring is restricted to divine enforcers 15 21.
  • Legal restriction: Gods are forbidden from interfering with the lower realm; Tang San nevertheless intervenes through possession and intermediaries 15 21.

Consciousness Possession and Mental Manipulation

  • Transfers his and Dai Mubai’s consciousnesses into two servants at the White Tiger Duke’s Mansion 21.
  • Uses the possessed servants to assault Huo Yuhao and Huo Yun’er while implicating Dai Lingfeng and the duchess 21 22.
  • Alters Huo Yun’er’s thoughts so that she will speak against Lingfeng and deepen the brothers’ estrangement 22.
  • Considers forcibly possessing Lingfeng to make him confess, but avoids doing so because it would alienate him and anger Dai Mubai 36.

Divine Bestowals and Soul Custody

  • Grants God-Given Soul Power, a God-Given Soul Ring, and Hundred Thousand Year Soul Bones as compensation for Lingfeng’s cooperation 36 37.
  • Controls access to Huo Yun’er’s soul and uses the prospect of reunions as leverage over her sons 36 40.
  • Later releases her soul to Lingfeng after reasoning that making her a Chang Ghost could consume part of his limited potential 44.
  • Plans to arrange a Rakshasa inheritance for Lingfeng, although the supplied chapters do not show that inheritance being completed 81 82.

Tang Sect Secret Arts

  • Possesses complete versions of the Tang Sect’s cultivation methods, superior to those available to the contemporary sect under Tang Ya 40.
  • Promotes the Mysterious Heaven Skill as a solution to the heavy Soul Power consumption of Lingfeng’s Self Martial Soul Fusion Skill 15.
  • Transmits arts including Purple Demon Eye, Mysterious Jade Hand, and Ghost Shadow Perplexing Track to Lingfeng 40.
  • Requires Lingfeng to conceal his Tang Sect affiliation and threatens to reclaim everything he has received if he betrays the sect 40.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Sea God Trident — One of Tang San’s divine weapons; its power helps intimidate Dai Mubai into cooperating with his arrangements 5.
  • Asura Demon Sword — His other named divine weapon 5.
  • Sea God Divine Armor — Associated with his six Soul Bones. Tang Hao states that fusing with all six would allow someone to inherit the armor 37.
  • Hundred Thousand Year Spirit Condensation Wisdom Skull — Grants Purple Demon Divine Light; transferred to Lingfeng as part of his compensation 37.
  • Hundred Thousand Year Blue Silver Emperor Right Leg Soul Bone — Originally from Tang San’s mother; supports flight and healing. Added to Lingfeng’s compensation when Tang San’s earlier scheme began unraveling 37 39.
  • Hundred Thousand Year Evil Spirit Orca Left Leg Soul Bone — A slaughter-oriented bone transferred to Lingfeng alongside the skull and right leg bone 37 39.
  • Buddha’s Fury Tang Lotus — Described as the pinnacle of Tang Sect hidden weapons; awarded to Lingfeng after his victory in a bet against Huo Yuhao 51.

Relationships

  • Tang Hao — Father and principal lower-realm intermediary. Tang San sends him to recruit and protect Lingfeng, exploiting the weight of the master–disciple bond 15 20.
  • Ah Yin — Mother; the Blue Silver Emperor Right Leg Soul Bone once belonged to her 20 37.
  • Tang Wutong / Wang Dong — Daughter. Tang San considers marriage a means of binding the brothers to his family and later continues to weigh her prospects with each of them 11 12 44 52.
  • Dai Mubai — Former companion, accomplice, and rival for Lingfeng’s loyalty. Their cooperation is sustained by shared schemes, unequal divine rank, and Tang San’s concern that Mubai could expose their actions 12 15.
  • Dai Lingfeng — Secret Tang Sect disciple, prospective son-in-law, and candidate for divine succession. Tang San rewards and admires him while assigning him the role of Huo Yuhao’s adversary 36 40 44 81.
  • Huo Yuhao — Child of destiny whom Tang San seeks to cultivate and control. Tang San deliberately engineers hardship, hatred, and dependence around him 21 22 29 39.
  • Huo Yun’er — Victim and source of leverage. Tang San damages her body, alters her thoughts, and later controls access to her soul 22 36 44.
  • Tang Ya and Bei Bei — Contemporary Tang Sect representatives whom Tang San bypasses when he awards the sect master position to Lingfeng 51.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Recruiting Dai Lingfeng

Tang San initially claims Huo Yuhao as his chosen talent, but Lingfeng’s White Tiger and Hell Spirit Cat Twin Martial Souls attract his attention. Discovering that Lingfeng can perform the Hell White Tiger fusion alone makes him unwilling to leave the boy solely under Dai Mubai and Zhu Zhuqing 11 12 15.

He offers Tang Hao’s protection and access to the Mysterious Heaven Skill, then privately orders his father to take Lingfeng as a personal disciple. Lingfeng accepts, establishing a family-like bond that gives Tang San influence without openly taking the boy’s divine inheritance 15 20.

Manufacturing the Brothers’ Feud

Lingfeng’s rising status inadvertently shields Huo Yuhao and Huo Yun’er: servants fear offending his family even after he publicly distances himself from them. Tang San treats this improvement as an obstruction to his plans 21.

He and Dai Mubai possess two servants and beat mother and son nearly to death while claiming to act for the duchess and Lingfeng. Tang San intends the assault to restore Yuhao’s hatred, create emotional vulnerabilities, and eventually make the Tang Sect appear to be his salvation 21 22 39.

He also arranges for Yuhao to confront Lingfeng publicly and enter a long-term contest with him. Keeping the brothers divided allows Tang San to control them separately; their combined potential makes genuine unity undesirable to him 29.

Buying Lingfeng’s Cooperation

Tang San pressures Lingfeng to accept responsibility for crimes he did not commit. Lingfeng negotiates rather than openly resist, demanding greater compensation for sacrificing his reputation and relationship with his brother 36.

When Dai Huabin’s intervention threatens to clear Lingfeng, Tang San raises the offer again. The final package consists of:

  • Ten levels of God-Given Soul Power.
  • One God-Given Soul Ring.
  • Three Hundred Thousand Year Soul Bones: a skull and both leg bones 37.

After absorbing the rewards, Lingfeng reaches level 28. The three transferred bones also carry Sea God divine presence, suppressing the Second-Level inheritances offered by Dai Mubai and Zhu Zhuqing and leaving Tang San another route to claim him as a successor 37 39.

Securing Tang Sect Allegiance

Tang San gives Lingfeng the complete Tang Sect Secret Arts, demands lifelong loyalty, and promises further meetings with Huo Yun’er. Lingfeng’s membership remains secret 40.

Later, Tang San hands over Huo Yun’er’s soul while privately hoping she will occupy a limited Chang Ghost slot. After Lingfeng wins his bet against Huo Yuhao, he also awards him the Buddha’s Fury Tang Lotus and the Tang Sect master position 44 51.

Marriage Plans and Growing Attachment

Tang San objects when Dai Mubai encourages Lingfeng’s womanizing, partly because he considers the boy a prospective son-in-law. Although displeased, he remains comparatively lenient and reasons that Huo Yuhao can preserve his chastity instead 44 52.

His admiration eventually becomes explicit remorse: he believes Lingfeng might otherwise have followed an invincible path of his own and feels obligated to compensate him for serving as Yuhao’s whetstone 70.

The Rakshasa Succession Plan

Tang San confronts Lingfeng after he abandons Shrek’s tournament team for Star Luo and takes Dai Yueheng with him. He accepts tormenting Yuhao as part of the plan but objects to damaging Shrek, his alma mater and the site of the Golden Ancient Tree 81.

Lingfeng argues that Shrek has become a state within a state and must be weakened before continental unification. His political independence unsettles Tang San, who also suspects Dai Mubai is encouraging behavior intended to make Lingfeng an unattractive Sea God successor 81.

Tang San ultimately decides to retain the Sea God position and pursue the vacant Rakshasa Godhood for Lingfeng instead. This would add a First-Level God to his camp without requiring him to surrender his own foundation 81 82.
