With all that done, Sun Fei opened his character attributes panel with a thought.
Level: 7 Experience: 3510040000 Strength: 51 Dexterity: 20 Vitality: 34 Energy: 10 Attack damage: 3-43 Attack rating: 114 Defense: 77 Stamina: 124 Life: 126 Mana: 19 Fire resistance: 0 Cold resistance: 0 Lightning resistance: 15 Poison resistance: 0
Compared to when he had first started, his stats had risen enormously. The difference was like heaven and earth.
But clearly, even those stats weren't enough to solve Sun Fei's troubles in the real world.
By Sun Fei's rough estimate, level 5 in the Diablo World was equivalent to the strength of a One-Star Warrior in the real world.
Between levels 5 and 10, he could kill a One-Star Warrior instantly and pose a certain threat to warriors who had just advanced to Two-Star, as when he killed the military judge Conca. But facing an established Two-Star Warrior head-on would take a little more effort. Of course, winning such a fight wasn't impossible. But against Three-Star Warriors like Lampard and Langde, he wouldn't stand a chance unless he caught them by surprise.
Once he crossed the level 10 threshold in the Diablo World, however, Sun Fei believed that even if he faced the enemy Three-Star-Rank Warrior Langde again, he would be able to put up a fight head-on without using special skills like [Howl].
So Sun Fei had to make the most of his time and level up as quickly as possible.
Once his barbarian character passed level 10, Chambord City would have another measure of protection.
Sun Fei set to work without delay, following the plan he had made before entering the Diablo World.
Buzz, buzz, buzz.
He opened his inventory and activated a [Scroll of Town Portal]. A huge, oval blue portal appeared beside him.
Sun Fei stepped through and returned to the [Rogue Encampment] the next second.
He immediately sought out Sister Akara.
Following the plan he had settled on earlier, Sun Fei bought a [Tome of Town Portal] and a [Tome of Identify]. Then he bought ten [Scrolls of Town Portal] and ten [Scrolls of Identify], put them in the respective tomes, and stowed them in his inventory.
Just as in the computer game from his previous life, the reason for buying the two tomes was naturally to save inventory space.
The [Tome of Town Portal] and [Tome of Identify] could each hold twenty of their respective scrolls, yet together they occupied only two inventory slots. If the forty [Scrolls of Town Portal] and [Scrolls of Identify] were stored separately, they would take up forty slots, leaving no room for anything else.
Since Sister Akara was a shady merchant who offered outrageously low prices, Sun Fei had no intention of selling equipment here. He said goodbye and left, passing several tents before finding a relatively secluded spot where he began identifying his equipment with [Scrolls of Identify].
Sun Fei first identified the three pieces of glowing equipment, starting with the small buckler covered in barbs.
He used a [Scroll of Identify], and all the buckler's attributes appeared before his eyes.
[Soul Emblem Buckler] Defense: 20 Chance to block: 25% Durability: 1010 Required strength: 35 Required level: 7 Special effects: 17% faster hit recovery, 7 mana, 9 cold resistance, ethereal (cannot be repaired).
The buckler's attributes delighted Sun Fei beyond measure. It was practically a defensive weapon tailor-made for a level 7 barbarian. With this shield, his current barbarian character's defense could instantly reach a new level.
Its only flaw was that it had just 10 durability and was ethereal equipment, making it a disposable item. Once damaged, it couldn't be repaired by a blacksmith.
Even so, its flaws didn't overshadow its strengths. The shield was exactly what Sun Fei needed right now.
He equipped the buckler without hesitation.
Then he continued identifying the equipment.
After he used another [Scroll of Identify], all the golden dagger's attributes appeared.
[Storm Piercer Dagger] One-hand damage: 3-7 Durability: 2424 Dagger class: fast attack speed Special effects: 1 minimum damage, 16 attack rating, 51% damage to undead, 69 attack rating against undead, 1-2 fire damage, 6 poison damage over 2 seconds.
Looking at the dagger's attributes, Sun Fei grinned so hard his teeth nearly broke.
After thinking it over, he eagerly equipped the [Storm Piercer Dagger] as well. In the world of Diablo, apart from equipment such as armor, amulets, and rings, which were limited to one set, each game character could equip two sets of weapons at once and switch freely between them as the situation demanded.
Sun Fei paired the [Soul Emblem Buckler] with the [Tempest Piercer Dagger], making a set with a sword in his right hand and a shield in his left. It became an alternative weapon set he could switch to, while he kept the tremendously deadly two-handed greataxe as his primary attack weapon.
Next, he identified the last piece of yellow equipment-the bronze-colored gloves.
He used a [Scroll of Identify], and all the gloves' attributes appeared before him.
[Bronze Self-Repair Heavy Gloves] Defense: 6 Durability: 1414. Special effects: 15 attack rating, 10% fire resistance, 15% cold resistance, automatically restores 1 durability every 33 seconds.
It was another top-quality piece of yellow equipment.
Sun Fei felt a little dizzy. He wondered if he had done some good deed lately that had caused his luck to explode. Not only did all three pieces of yellow equipment have top-quality attributes, but his current level 7 barbarian character could use every one of them, as though they had been tailor-made for him.
Coming back to his senses, Sun Fei replaced his somewhat worn leather gloves with the [Bronze Self-Repair Heavy Gloves] without hesitation. With all three pieces of yellow equipment gleaming on him, he felt as though he had traded a musket for a cannon. He was itching to rush into the wilderness immediately and fight monsters for three hundred rounds.
After identifying and sorting all the equipment, Sun Fei sought out the female blacksmith Charsi.
He sold all the other pieces of blue equipment in his inventory that he couldn't use for the time being, receiving a total of 18,666 gold coins. Looking at the 21,000 gold coins he had accumulated in his inventory and the number that had suddenly shot up, Sun Fei felt the accomplishment of having gone from a pauper to a man of modest wealth in one stroke.
Time was short, and with all this done, Sun Fei didn't dare linger for a moment.
He had Charsi repair all his equipment while he was there, then spent a small number of gold coins on a metal helmet and a pair of heavy cowhide boots and put them on. He immediately left the smithy and found Kashya, the head of the [Rogue Encampment]'s armed forces, to turn in the [Eliminate the traitor Blood Raven] quest and claim his reward.
"Oh, God bless you, young adventurer! You actually killed that hateful traitor... Congratulations, you have earned my trust and friendship. In return, you will receive a powerful female Rogue as your personal mercenary."
Kashya was pleasantly surprised that Sun Fei had managed to complete the quest.
As she spoke, a young, beautiful female Rogue archer emerged from the tent behind Kashya and came over to Sun Fei.
"This is Elena, a powerful magic archer of the [Rogue Encampment]. Young adventurer, Elena will follow you and fight for you from now on."
Kashya introduced the female Rogue warrior before him to Sun Fei.
Sun Fei examined her closely.
The young female magic archer named Elena was around twenty-one and slightly shorter than Sun Fei. Her beautiful, fiery red hair was tied tightly behind her head with coarse cloth. She had a tall, shapely figure and wore only rough leather armor that protected her vital areas, along with a pair of little cowhide knee-high boots. Her smooth, fair thighs were bare, with her leather battle skirt covering only their uppermost parts. Her slender waist and full breasts formed a nosebleed-inducing contrast. She had the body of a devil and the face of an angel, and, worth mentioning, she possessed a heroic bearing rarely seen in ordinary women, looking every bit the valiant warrior.
"Greetings. At Leader Kashya's request, I will fight for you, young warrior."
Elena wasn't much of a talker. After saying that to Sun Fei in a quiet voice, she stood behind him like a guard and said no more. Her expression was serene, like an orchid in a secluded valley. She had a quiet air of detachment from the world, yet she didn't seem cold.
Sun Fei recalled the techniques for using mercenaries from his previous life.
If he remembered correctly, taking a mercenary along made killing monsters and leveling much faster than doing it alone, so he didn't refuse. He thanked Kashya and then, taking his beautiful bodyguard with him, went to Sister Akara and accepted the [Rogue Encampment]'s third beginner quest, based on his memories of the game from his previous life-the quest to find and rescue the sleazy old man Cain.
The requirements for this quest were a little complicated.
Sun Fei had to cross the monster-infested [Underground Passage], reach the Dark Wood, find the Tree of Inifuss, and obtain a mysterious scroll. Then, after he returned to the [Rogue Encampment], Sister Akara would help translate it-she would actually give you a series of numbers in a particular order. Using those numbers, you could go stroke the five stone pillars in the [Stony Field]. These were five very flirtatious pillars that, after you stroked them, would shoot out beams of light as if reaching climax, combining to form a portal that transported you to a mysterious space. There, the sleazy old man Cain was locked in a cage by a crowd of demons, hung from a tree, and teased to their hearts' content like a performing monkey. Your final task was to kill the demons and rescue the sleazy old man before you could return to the [Rogue Encampment] to claim your reward.
The holiday was over, and normal work and life had begun again.
