Power Progression
Each major Moon Class realm contains lower, middle, and upper tiers, with ten levels in each tier. These divisions apply across the different cultivation paths 380.
| Stage / Realm / Level | Chapter | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| New Moon | 380 461 | Entry realm. The nine Star Class energy spirals merge into a crescent-shaped core; a warrior’s gaseous Dou Qi becomes liquid. |
| Half Moon | 380 461 | Intermediate realm, reached as continued cultivation makes the crescent core progressively fuller. |
| Full Moon | 380 461 465 | Highest major Moon Class realm. The core reaches the full-moon stage; exceptionally abundant Dou Qi is said to allow the creation of cities, palaces, and clones. |
Documented Breakthroughs
| Stage / Realm / Level | Chapter | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Sun Fei — enters Moon Class | 461 462 | Undergoes the elemental trial after already completing the corresponding transformation in the Diablo World. His power is pure physical strength rather than ordinary Dou Qi or magic. |
| Sun Fei — Middle-Tier New Moon | 483 | Dilunke recognizes this strength only three days after Sun Fei’s entry into Moon Class. |
| Lampard — Middle-Tier New Moon, Level 5 | 582 584 | Absorbs lightning during his trial to temper his body and breaks the final elemental assault with one sword strike. |
| Čech and Torres — approximately Lower-Tier New Moon, Level 8 | 637 638 | Complete metal- and wind-element trials respectively. Čech’s deep foundation and Torres’s comprehension give them the strongest results among the six simultaneous breakthroughs. |
| Pierce, Drogba, and Robben — Lower-Tier New Moon, Level 4 | 637 638 | Stabilize after completing metal-, earth-, and wind-element trials respectively. |
| Oleg — enters Moon Class | 637 638 | Completes an earth-element trial alongside the other five; his precise final level is not stated in the supplied account. |
| Chris Sutton — Nine-Star Class to Moon Class | 709 728 | Advances with Sun Fei’s assistance. Sun Fei later credits Sutton’s own effort and emotional state as the basis of the breakthrough. |
| Lloris — Lower-Tier Full Moon | 811 | Breaks a longstanding bottleneck after being gravely wounded and exhausted during an underwater battle; subsequently improves through Sun Fei’s guidance. |
| Materazzi — High-Tier New Moon Peak to Half Moon | 850 | Overcomes his bottleneck during the desperate defense of Saint Petersburg against D’Alessandro’s followers. |
Advancement Requirements
Breaking the Star Class Limit
- At the peak of Nine-Star Class, the human body has reached its capacity for storing ordinary Dou Qi or magical power. Further advancement requires a different method of cultivation rather than simply accumulating more energy 184.
- The nine Dou Qi or magic star spirals merge into one core. For warriors, Dou Qi changes from gas into dense liquid, while the new core takes the shape of a crescent moon 380 461.
- The transformation affects both cultivated power and life itself, strengthening the body rather than merely enlarging its energy reserves 439 440.
Elemental Trial
The forces of heaven and earth reject an advancing cultivator, producing a dangerous trial that must be endured before the breakthrough is complete 461 637.
- Purpose: Tempers the body and refines cultivated power, completing their qualitative transformation 637.
- Manifestation: Can reflect the cultivator’s element. Chambord’s simultaneous breakthroughs attract earth, metal, and wind storms; Lampard’s trial manifests as lightning 582 637.
- Failure: May leave a cultivator trapped at Star Class with little prospect of further progress. Severe backlash can destroy the body outright 461.
- Preparation: Rushing the breakthrough without sufficient preparation is specifically associated with failure 461.
- Exceptional case: Sun Fei’s Diablo-derived physical strength lets him force the elements to recognize him rather than undergo the ordinary process of accommodation 461.
Initial Breakthrough Level
| Stabilized Strength | Assessment |
|---|---|
| Lower-Tier New Moon, Level 1 | An exceptionally smooth and complete success for an ordinary cultivator 584. |
| Lower-Tier New Moon, Levels 2–3 | The result of a genius 584. |
| Lower-Tier New Moon, Level 5 | The result of a peerless genius among peerless geniuses 584. |
| Middle-Tier New Moon, Level 5 | Lampard’s extraordinary result, far beyond ordinary breakthrough standards 584. |
Cultivation Paths
| Path | Method | Advantages and Limits |
|---|---|---|
| Artifact Cultivation / Dou Weapon Warrior | Bonds with a high-quality weapon compatible with the cultivator’s soul 184. | The most widespread, simplest, and quickest of the three principal methods. Union with the weapon multiplies strength; perfect compatibility can bring a Sun Class breakthrough within reach 103 358. |
| Beast Cultivation / Beast Soul Warrior | Forms a soul contract with a magical beast 29 358. | Draws on the beast’s strength, growth potential, bloodline, and supernatural abilities. Benefits depend on the contracted beast’s rank 358. |
| Body Cultivation / Ascetic Warrior | An alternative to the weapon- and beast-based paths 103 380. | Recognized as a major Moon Class cultivation route and subject to the same realm divisions 380. |
- Bonded Dou Weapons can be stored inside the body and summoned when needed. Doni’s paired curved sabers emerge from his arms 184 439.
- Many continental masters regard the Dou Weapon route as superior to Beast Soul and Ascetic cultivation, though all remain established paths 439.
- Lampard’s Leo Cloth disappearing into his body initially causes observers to mistake it for a Dou Weapon and wrongly assume that he has already reached Moon Class 184.
Abilities & Skills
Physical Transformation and Longevity
Moon Class advancement strengthens flesh, bones, internal organs, and individual cells 440.
- Lifespan: Masters can live for three hundred years or longer if not killed in battle, compared with roughly a hundred years for ordinary people and Star Class cultivators 440.
- Recovery: Ordinary wounds, even serious ones, can heal within hours provided no limb has been severed 372.
- Limit: Hostile Dou Qi remaining inside a wound can continually damage the body and obstruct recovery, as Krasic’s power does to Amauri and his companions 372.
Refined Energy Control
Liquid Dou Qi tempers the body and allows much more precise control than Star Class power 439.
- Attacks often resemble simple slashes, thrusts, punches, and palm strikes, with little energy wasted outward despite their greater destructive force 439.
- A casual movement can carry the power of a Star Class warrior’s full-strength Dou Qi technique 440.
- Newly advanced warriors commonly experience difficulty controlling their strength. Sun Fei avoids this through his earlier training under Krasic and his mastery of minute power control 465.
Flight and Power Constructs
Standing or moving freely in midair is a recognizable sign of Moon Class strength 481 650.
- Cultivators can shape power into wings, weapons, armor, and battle garments 465.
- Sun Fei forms silver-white wings spanning more than twenty meters from condensed pure power 465.
- Full Moon experts are reputed to possess enough Dou Qi to form much larger constructs, including palaces and clones 465.
Destructive Power
Moon Class battles can endanger entire armies and their surroundings 255 463.
- A battlefield containing mountains destroyed across four or five kilometers leads Sun Fei to conclude that the combatants must have surpassed Star Class 255.
- Escaping energy from a clash can kill nearby soldiers; even a small remnant can tear apart a Star-Rank Warrior 463.
- Masters at Sun Fei’s wedding move their duels into the sky to avoid harming the people gathered below 651.
Limits and Exceptions
- Realm advantage is not absolute: Before his own Moon Class breakthrough, Sun Fei defeats Doni and overcomes three heavily wounded Moon Class opponents whose remaining strength is below roughly half their normal power 374 440.
- Equipment can overturn rankings: A Demigod Dou Weapon can allow a Moon Class wielder to kill a Great Sun-Rank Venerable, but consumes enormous amounts of energy 494.
- Bloodline and environment matter: Six Sea Clan experts around Middle-Stage Full Moon display power approaching or exceeding Moon Class Great Perfection underwater through their bloodline abilities and favorable surroundings 760.
- Sun Class remains vastly stronger: D’Alessandro overwhelms the assembled Moon Class defenders of Saint Petersburg with his power, eventually defeating even Lampard’s resistance 850 855.
Continental Significance
- Regional influence: Moon-Rank Warriors can readily attract the favor of great empires and obtain authority, noble status, and fiefs 29.
- Strategic value: In a level-one empire such as Zenit, a single Moon Class master is a national deterrent whose presence substantially increases the empire’s strength 282.
- Military consequences: Lyon’s loss of eight Moon Class masters in one campaign shakes the foundations of even that mid-to-high-tier empire 721.
- Chambord’s rise: The appearance of multiple Moon Class warriors in a small affiliated kingdom repeatedly astonishes observers, especially when Drogba’s rise from having no Dou Qi training to Moon Class takes about a year 582 651 653.
- Coalition strength: The twenty-four Moon Class masters gathered against Chambord at Sun Fei’s wedding are described as sufficient to overthrow ninety-nine percent of the surrounding imperial dynasties 656.
Terminology
- An early passage names Crescent Moon, Waning Moon, Half Moon, and Full Moon while Sun Fei speculates about unknown combatants. The later systematic explanation establishes New Moon → Half Moon → Full Moon, with three tiers and ten levels per tier 255 380.
- Terms such as stage, tier, and level vary between descriptions. The explicit hierarchy in the Chronicles of Continental Years distinguishes the three major realms, their lower/middle/upper tiers, and the ten levels within each tier 380.
