Kill One First

Near the border between China and Myanmar, a group of heavily armed mercenaries was rapidly closing in.

There were fewer than a hundred mercenaries in the group. Though few in number, their weapons and equipment were exceptionally advanced, much of it even world-class.

"Tch, he's just one yellow-skinned monkey. Did we really need to make such a fuss? We even brought the whole team!"

A black man spoke from inside the lead SUV.

His codename was Mad Bull, and he was the mercenaries' top gunner.

True to his name, Mad Bull was arrogant. Apart from their captain, Old Cat, he looked down on everyone.

"Fuck your mother! Who the fuck are you calling a monkey?"

The curse came from a mercenary beside him, codenamed Monkey.

"I'm calling you a monkey! Eat a banana!"

Mad Bull glanced at him and said.

"Like hell I'll eat a banana!"

Monkey cursed furiously, but he couldn't resist the temptation of the banana. He peeled it and stuffed it into his mouth.

"Old Cat, how far are we from the target?"

The sniper was observing the area ahead through binoculars. The jungle was about a thousand meters away, while the border was roughly five hundred meters away.

"All we know is that Leng Feng is taking part in a military exercise here. We'll have to see about the details once we're inside."

Old Cat took out a cigar and lit it, puffing away as he looked out the window.

The SUVs moved quickly, reaching the edge of the jungle in just a few minutes.

After parking the vehicles somewhere relatively well hidden, everyone checked their equipment before setting off into the jungle.

"Wait! There's a sound!"

They hadn't gone far when Assassin stopped.

"What is it?"

Old Cat tightened his grip on his gun, already prepared for battle.

"I don't know!"

Assassin shook his head, then took out his binoculars.

"Holy shit! Wolves! A huge pack of wolves!"

Assassin cried out, turned, and ran back.

"They're just wolves!"

Mad Bull snorted disdainfully. They were just wild wolves, easy to shoot dead. Was there any need to run?

"Awooo!"

A piercing wolf howl suddenly rang out, making Mad Bull shudder uncontrollably from head to toe.

He saw wolves, countless wolves, a vast, dark mass of them, charging wildly toward them as though they had gone mad.

Holy shit! Mad Bull turned and ran.

Fewer than a hundred mercenaries facing more than three thousand wild wolves would have had no trouble at all if they'd had enough ammunition.

But that was the problem. They had traveled light to kill Leng Feng, and the ammunition they carried was very limited.

Their only option was to retreat to where they had hidden the SUVs.

Then they could either flee or fight the wolf pack head-on.

But the wolves clearly had no intention of taking bullets for nothing. They came charging in and caught up within seconds.

Rat-tat-tat!

"Ah!"

Gunfire rang out, followed quickly by a bloodcurdling scream.

The slowest mercenary was bitten on the thigh and then swallowed up by the wolf pack.

"Motherfucker! Where did all these wolves come from?!"

Assassin ran as if his ass were on fire, using every last ounce of strength he had.

Boom!

As one mercenary lay dying, he pulled the pin on a grenade, blowing himself and three or four wolves to death.

Inspired by him, the other mercenaries did the same.

If they were going to die, no one else was going to have an easy time of it either.

Explosion after explosion slowed the wolves' charge, giving Old Cat and the others a moment to catch their breath.

By the time a few of them got back into the SUVs, the nearest wolves were already less than ten meters away.

And at that moment, Mad Bull finally opened fire.

Flames spat from his machine gun. Wolf after wolf surged forward, using their bodies to wear down his ammunition.

The other mercenaries didn't dare stand idle either. They opened fire one after another.

"What the hell is going on? Where did all these wolves come from? Why are they attacking us like they've gone mad?"

Monkey cursed furiously. "Mad Bull, is that problem of yours acting up again? Playing with gorillas in Africa wasn't enough, so you came here to play with wolves too?"

"Fuck your grandpa! This is my first time here!"

Mad Bull was furious too. If the wolves hadn't been closing in on all sides, he would have shoved the barrel of his machine gun into Monkey's mouth.

"Cut the crap. Driver, get us out of here first!"

Old Cat gave the order, abandoning the mission outright.

There were too many wolves. There was nothing to be gained from fighting them head-on.

Rather than waste time here, they might as well lie low until the storm passed.

As for the mission, what did it matter if they were dead?

"Understood!"

The driver called back, put away his submachine gun, and prepared to drive.

But just then, a muffled report rang out, making several mercenaries' faces change drastically.

It was the sound of a sniper rifle, and from the sound of it, a large-caliber anti-materiel sniper rifle at that.

Never mind a person-even an armored vehicle would be blown apart by a hit from one.

"Get down!"

Old Cat roared, but it was already too late.

Boom!

A deafening bang, an explosion, a shock wave!

Under the terrifying kinetic force, the entire front of the SUV was blasted apart, along with the driver's body.

[Hidden mission: 3. Kill the driver! Complete! 1,000 points awarded!]

"Not bad, I suppose."

At the edge of the jungle, Xu Long was watching through binoculars. Beside him were Rice Bucket and Red Queen, clutching and devouring soy-braised pork knuckles with a frenzy that blotted out heaven and earth.

Red Queen had fired that shot, and the result was excellent: she had killed the driver outright.

For robots, unless the task involved creativity, they were superior to humans the vast majority of the time.

Take long-range sniping, for example. Though she couldn't calculate a target's psychological state, her control over factors such as wind speed and air humidity was enough to leave humans dozens of streets behind.

Red Queen hadn't aimed directly at the driver, instead choosing the larger SUV.

The result was excellent: both the front of the vehicle and the driver were shattered.

"Keep going. Destroy all the vehicles."

As Xu Long spoke, he lifted his leg and kicked Rice Bucket in the rear.

Rice Bucket understood and opened his mouth to let out a long howl.

When the sound reached the wolf pack in the distance, the wolves immediately became even more frenzied, as though pumped full of chicken blood.

"There's a sniper! We've been ambushed!"

Old Cat roared. He couldn't understand how anyone knew they were here, much less why the wolves were attacking them.

"Hurry, switch vehicles! We have to get out of here now!"

Old Cat leaped out of the SUV and ran toward another vehicle.

But he had only taken a few steps when another explosive report rang out.

The SUV not far away exploded too!

Metal fragments flew in every direction, and a wave of flame and force struck their faces, sending their hearts plunging into an icy abyss.

"Now... we're really finished..."

Holy shit. Old Cat knew he was done for, though he had no idea how it had happened.

All ten SUVs were shot apart one after another.

Of the more than ninety mercenaries, over half were dead by now.

The wolves around them were as frenzied as ever, but their ammunition was nearly exhausted.
