A clear blade of ice coated the Dustless Sword, with another layer of condensed, frigid Sword Qi over it.
The students of the genius class stared dumbfounded at the purple Soul Ring that had appeared.
Most of their Soul Rings were only a hundred years old.
With this purple Soul Ring suddenly appearing, were they sure this was the genius class of an elementary academy?
The word genius was no longer enough to describe him.
Ignoring the gazes around him, Gu Wuchen calmly stepped forward, his figure turning into a flash of cold light.
"Horizontal Slash!"
Gripping the Dustless Sword, Gu Wuchen passed straight through Chu Feng's attack.
To Gu Wuchen, this was merely his usual speed, but to everyone else, it had already surpassed that of an ordinary Soul Master, coming infinitely close to a Soul Grandmaster's.
The instant Gu Wuchen landed, Chu Feng promptly collapsed to the ground.
"The match has been decided!"
Jiang Wuji announced the result.
Holding the Dustless Sword, Gu Wuchen turned his sharp gaze on Chu Feng, who lay on the ground, still unwilling to accept defeat.
Among the crowd, a seductive-looking girl with a scorching figure watched Gu Wuchen on the arena.
Her mouth fell slightly open in an O as she muttered, "A Thousand-Year Soul Ring. Where did this monster come from?"
Hu Liena's eyes widened. She had only been passing by, but had ended up seeing quite a show.
What a heaven-defying little fellow.
She didn't remember anyone like him at the elementary academy!
In the sparring matches that followed, quite a few Soul Masters at levels seventeen and fifteen challenged him, and every last one of them was defeated.
Afterward, Gu Wuchen left them with words that rubbed them the wrong way.
"To cut you down, I need only one sword!"
Their teeth itched with anger, but there was nothing they could do.
Hu Liena had watched the whole thing, and she grew increasingly curious about Gu Wuchen. In all her life, she had never seen such an arrogant little fellow.
After the sparring ended and Gu Wuchen returned to his class, Hu Liena took the opportunity to find Jiang Wuji and ask about Gu Wuchen's background.
"Dean Jiang, where did that arrogant little fellow just now come from?" Hu Liena asked curiously. "There wasn't anyone like him at the academy before, was there?"
Seeing Hu Liena's confusion, Jiang Wuji explained, "That young man is named Gu Wuchen. As for his background, all I know is that the Great Enshrined brought him here. I don't know any more details than that."
"A child brought here by the Great Enshrined?"
Hu Liena fell into thought.
The fact that the Great Enshrined had personally brought him to the Elder Hall meant his family background had to be extraordinary.
Jiang Wuji finished packing up and set off for the dean's office.
Hu Liena decided to lie in wait for Gu Wuchen. She had to find out more about such a powerful young man.
It was only when classes ended that evening that Gu Wuchen came out of the elementary academy. He was just about to visit the Gu Clan's main store in Spirit City when a girl who looked remarkably like a little fox blocked his path.
"Little fellow, what's your name? Tell big sister, and she'll give you some candy!"
Hu Liena tried to beguile Gu Wuchen with a gentle tone, thinking that, together with her looks, she could easily win him over.
Instead, Gu Wuchen looked at her as though she were an idiot.
Gu Wuchen's eyes were clear as he looked at Hu Liena standing before him. "Do you think I'm stupid? And why did you suddenly show up?"
Why is Hu Liena here?
"I personally watched the whole thing when you sparred with the others. I'm very curious where you came from, and your First Soul Ring is a thousand years old."
Gu Wuchen walked straight past Hu Liena and headed for the Gu Clan's main store in Spirit City.
"Little fellow, wait for me."
Hu Liena hurried after him.
Did I really act that much like a bad person just now?
That can't be right!
Hu Liena followed Gu Wuchen out of Spirit Hall Elementary Academy, walking all the way toward the very center of Spirit City.
At last, he stopped in front of the Gu Clan's main store.
Hu Liena looked at the store before them. "Little fellow, what are you doing here? The things here aren't cheap!"
Gu Wuchen ignored her and went straight inside.
"Little fellow, listen to big sister. I'm not lying to you!" Hu Liena quickly followed.
Inside the Gu Clan store, Gu Wuchen found that everyone there was a hired employee. The store's general manager was nowhere in sight.
He immediately sat down in a chair and closed his eyes to rest.
"What are you doing?" Hu Liena asked, bewildered. "This is the Gu Clan's store!"
Gu Wuchen opened his eyes a crack. After listening to Hu Liena chatter on and on, he said helplessly, "This store belongs to my family!"
"Bragging!" Hu Liena scoffed disdainfully.
As she spoke, a middle-aged man of elegant bearing walked over and bowed. "Young master, you're here. The clan head has already given his instructions. This is the account book for this month. Please look it over!"
At those words, Hu Liena's eyes widened, and she stared at Gu Wuchen in disbelief.
Gu Wuchen, the Gu Clan-it really did belong to his family!
"Thank you for your hard work!"
Gu Wuchen took the account book and flipped through it, discovering that they had sold a thousand orders of silk in a single day?
As he examined it, Hu Liena looked at the man before her and asked, "Is he really the Gu Clan's young master?"
"Of course. He's the genuine article. You must have heard of the Gu Clan's illustrious name. This is our young master, Gu Wuchen."
The man's name was Wu Tian. He was in charge of the Spirit City store and also oversaw sales throughout the Spirit City area.
After looking through the account book, Gu Wuchen set it on the table.
"Silk is selling that well?"
Wu Tian said, "Young master, a noble came in that day and ordered eight hundred sets of silk. The remaining two hundred sets were bought by individuals."
Gu Wuchen nodded slightly. "Good. Also, Uncle Wu, how much longer until you break through to Titled Douluo?"
Wu Tian was startled. He hadn't expected Gu Wuchen to ask that.
"Young master, that's still a long way off. I'm only a level eighty-seven Soul Douluo."
Gu Wuchen silently made a note of it and said no more. Instead, he got up and left the Gu Clan's main store.
The managers of the main stores in the three great empires were all Soul Douluo, and each had his own theories about doing business.
On the way back to Spirit Hall from the store, Hu Liena could no longer hold herself back and stopped Gu Wuchen.
"Hey, could you stop giving me the silent treatment all the time?" Hu Liena sounded somewhat aggrieved.
She had never been given the silent treatment like this anywhere.
Gu Wuchen snorted with laughter. "I'm not giving you the silent treatment. You're the one who's been chattering away all this time."
"Then you could at least say something."
Hu Liena was very dissatisfied.
Gu Wuchen spread his hands. "Say what? What do you want to hear? About the Thousand-Year Soul Ring, or that I'm the Gu Clan's young master?"
"Even if I told you, you wouldn't believe me, so I might as well say nothing."
Hu Liena was left speechless. This little fellow's mouth didn't match his looks at all.
"Don't block the way. I still have to go back and rest!"
Gu Wuchen walked straight ahead, while Hu Liena stepped forward and introduced herself. But Gu Wuchen's reaction only made her more dissatisfied.
"I'm a disciple of His Holiness the Pope, and you're this unfazed?"
"My parents are Titled Douluo. The Pope doesn't mean shit!" Gu Wuchen said dismissively.
Hu Liena's jaw dropped. This little fellow really feared neither heaven nor earth!
