Zhang Yang is confident, sociable, and openly aware of his attractiveness. He jokes about relying on charm and refuses to be embarrassed when Xiao Xiao protects him from a stronger opponent. Although the attention sometimes inconveniences him, he readily uses it to gain allies and opportunities 2 6.

He is calculating about both relationships and advancement. He deliberately raises favorability to obtain sign-in rewards, prioritizes receptive targets over openly hostile ones, and combines music with his Martial Soul to influence several listeners at once. His romantic conduct is nonexclusive: he dates Xiao Xiao while pursuing Tang Ya and Zhang Lexuan 9 10 15 24.

His confidence does not prevent caution. Against Dai Huabin, he arranges for a teacher to intervene rather than attempting an unwinnable direct fight. He also avoids discussing his plans for the Three-Eyed Golden Lion aloud, fearing the Scarlet King might overhear, and leaves the forest quickly once their connection risks discovery 6 24 28.

Breath of Charm

His Second Soul Skill enhances his nose and releases a thick, dark-pink mist. Although Zhang Yang initially wonders whether it is a physical attack, it is subsequently identified as a wide-area Control System skill 29 30.

Arrival at Shrek Academy

Zhang Yang's transfer makes him an immediate object of attention among students and teachers. He chooses the Control System on the grounds that charming someone is itself a form of control, then refuses Mu Jin's attempt to recruit him into Class Nine 1 2 4.

His popularity provokes Dai Huabin, whose attempted ambush becomes a trap: Zhang Yang stalls while Huo Yuhao and Wang Dong fetch Zhou Yi. The incident pushes him to seek stronger sign-in rewards for self-protection, while Zhang Lexuan retaliates against Dai Yueheng without Zhang Yang initially knowing 6 8.

Tang Sect Recruitment

After joining the Tang Sect, Zhang Yang helps bring Wang Dong and Xiao Xiao into it. He turns a crowd gathered for his music into a recruitment opportunity and later leads a drive that adds more than a dozen students, increasing the sect's membership severalfold 9 10 16 17.

Star Dou Great Forest

Zhang Yang accompanies Zhang Lexuan to obtain his first Soul Ring. Their search attracts the Three-Eyed Golden Lion, whose gifts provide suitable Soul Beasts. Absorbing the Illusory Charm Spider's ring releases his stored Soul Power and immediately brings him to level 20 20 21 22 23.

He deliberately draws the Auspicious Beast closer while developing his relationship with Zhang Lexuan, eventually gaining cultivation acceleration, Auspicious Aura, and a spiritual bond. Concerned that the Scarlet King might react dangerously to that bond, he leaves the forest before discovery can lead to a confrontation 25 26 27 28.

Their connection nevertheless draws the Silver Dragon King's attention. She senses a disturbance in fate that could benefit Soul Beasts, briefly orders Di Tian to locate him, then chooses not to interfere; Zhang Yang remains unaware 29.

Northern Mission

Zhang Yang accompanies Zhang Lexuan on a mission against a Soul Emperor Evil Soul Master, using the journey to study his Soul Skills and seek contact with the Far North's powerful Soul Beasts 28 30.

While Zhang Lexuan fights the enemy, Zhang Yang treats the captured Soul Beasts. The enemy's attempt to take him hostage prompts both the Snow Empress's concealed protection and Zhang Lexuan's lethal counterattack. After the surviving beasts are released, Zhang Yang reveals his level-30 cultivation and requests help obtaining his next ring 32.
