Background / History
Tang Ya leads the Tang Sect during a prolonged decline. Before she recruits Zhang Yang, its membership consists of only herself, Bei Bei, and Huo Yuhao. Revitalizing the sect is her overriding ambition, and she actively seeks promising disciples despite its diminished reputation 9.
She is dating Bei Bei when Zhang Yang arrives at Shrek Academy. Her decision to recruit the newcomer brings the sect renewed attention, but her growing attraction to him increasingly strains her existing relationship 8 9 11.
Appearance
- Azure eyes: Her eyes become moist when she thanks Zhang Yang after the sect gains three new disciples 10.
Personality
Tang Ya appears carefree and innocent, but her determination to restore the Tang Sect borders on obsession. She is enthusiastic about recruitment and immediately recognizes Zhang Yang’s potential as an image ambassador, seeing his popularity as a way to make students notice the sect again 9 10.
She strongly values initiative that supports her goal. Zhang Yang’s unsolicited recruitment announcement moves her deeply, while Bei Bei’s caution strikes her as obstruction. Although she previously wanted to rely on her own efforts rather than his connections, she becomes increasingly resentful of what she sees as his lack of practical support 16 18.
Her attraction to Zhang Yang also leads her to rationalize her feelings through the sect’s interests. She imagines that dating him would make promoting the Tang Sect more efficient, using its revival to justify thoughts she initially tries to suppress 11.
Abilities & Skills
Blue Silver Grass
Tang Ya possesses a Blue Silver Grass Martial Soul with an orthodox royal bloodline and a hidden Devouring talent 16.
- Zhang Yang recalls that the Holy Spirit Cult would awaken this latent attribute in the future; that awakening is not depicted in these passages 16.
- Her Devouring talent nevertheless manifests during their late-night encounter, reducing Zhang Yang’s stamina 17.
- It is weaker than Zhang Yang’s Law of Devouring. He overcomes it and drains her Soul Power, storing the absorbed energy in his Martial Soul 17 23.
Tang Sect Instruction
Tang Ya supplies new disciples with the sect’s inherited cultivation methods and asks Zhang Yang to address her as “Teacher Xiao Ya,” as Huo Yuhao does 9.
- She gives Zhang Yang a handwritten copy of the Mysterious Heaven Treasure Record when he joins 9.
- His immediate mastery of the six secret arts comes from his check-in reward, rather than from studying her copy 9.
Equipment / Items
- Mysterious Heaven Treasure Record — A handwritten copy containing the Tang Sect’s secret arts, which she hands to Zhang Yang upon his admission 9.
Relationships
- Zhang Yang — Recruited disciple and romantic interest. His support for the Tang Sect rapidly wins her favor, and their relationship becomes intimate after she visits his dormitory late at night 9 16 17.
- Bei Bei — Her boyfriend at her introduction. They argue over Zhang Yang’s recruitment and the sect’s expansion; by their later encounter, the narration describes him as her boyfriend “in name.” No formal breakup is shown 8 11 18.
- Huo Yuhao — Tang Sect disciple who calls her Teacher Xiao Ya. He is surprised when she misses the recruitment drive because such an absence is unlike her 9 17.
- Wang Dong’er and Xiao Xiao — New disciples she welcomes shortly after Zhang Yang joins, doubling the sect’s membership from three to six 10.
- Zhang Lexuan — Another woman whose closeness to Zhang Yang concerns her. Tang Ya privately watches their departure and recognizes their mutual attraction 14 18.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Reviving the Tang Sect
Tang Ya first notices Zhang Yang at Huo Yuhao’s grilled-fish stall and approaches him about joining the sect. His acceptance attracts public attention, followed by Wang Dong’er and Xiao Xiao volunteering to join. When Bei Bei later questions her haste, she defends Zhang Yang and accuses Bei Bei of jealousy 8 9 10 11.
After visiting Zhang Yang’s dormitory, she hears him publicly announce an expanded recruitment drive. The event subsequently brings in more than a dozen students, although neither Tang Ya nor Bei Bei attends; Zhang Yang leads it with assistance from his classmates and Zhou Yi 13 16 17.
Favorability and Check-in Rewards
Tang Ya’s favorability is tracked by Zhang Yang’s system, not as her cultivation level.
| Favorability | Chapter | Trigger / Result |
|---|---|---|
| 40 | 8 | Initial attraction; described as “heart aflutter.” |
| 70 | 9 | Zhang Yang agrees to join and help revitalize the sect. His first check-in grants Tang Sect Secret Arts MAX. |
| 80 | 10 | Wang Dong’er and Xiao Xiao also join the sect. |
| 90 | 15 | Zhang Yang’s performance combines his Charm God’s Body, instrumental proficiency, and Law of Music. |

Late-Night Visit and Aftermath
Tang Ya returns to Zhang Yang’s dormitory after curfew to discuss recruitment. Their encounter becomes intimate, and his Law of Devouring absorbs her Soul Power. After he obtains his First Soul Ring, that stored energy helps propel him directly from level 10 to level 20 16 17 23.
She later watches him leave with Zhang Lexuan without revealing her presence. On her way to class, she rejects Bei Bei’s concerns about the expanded sect’s ability to support its new disciples, arguing through her reaction that Zhang Yang has at least given them a hopeful beginning 18.
