Background / History

Mortal life and ascension

Before becoming an Aeon, Ayinai worked constantly and protected saplings, sometimes holding them while she slept. She deliberately retains habits from this period as proof that she once existed as a mortal rather than an indifferent god 74.

After ascending on Higgs, she restored planets devastated by the Swarm Disaster. Their resources and physical environments returned, but their lost inhabitants did not. Her power anchored the planets in space-time, allowing them to reassemble even after subsequent destruction. The site of her ascension later became known as the Higgs Holy Land or Higgs Sanctuary 2.

Adoption of Xianzhou Daiyu

In Amber Era 2105, Ayinai became interested in the nine Xianzhou ships because their search for immortality was also a pursuit of Yaoshi. She concealed herself and followed them. During Daiyu’s destruction in Amber Era 2113, Qingzhu’s determination to preserve the other ships and evacuate survivors renewed her interest in its people 3 4.

Ayinai secretly protected escaping Starskiffs, then rebuilt and modified Daiyu in less than five minutes. She blessed its survivors, appointed Qingzhu as her first Emanator, and asked them to practice Existence throughout the universe. She also recolored the ship emerald or jade green because she disliked its original appearance 4 5.

During reconstruction, Ayinai guided residents onto her Path and cultivated Higgs plants aboard the ship. In its tenth year of rebuilding, Daiyu established the Manifest Existence Army, and she recognized its elected general, Xiahou Chan, as an Emanator. Her alteration of the surrounding planet’s time meant that roughly a thousand years had passed outside while Daiyu remained secluded 6 8.

Expansion of Daiyu’s community

Ayinai supported Daiyu’s dealings with the Family while initially presenting herself as a visiting gardener. She subsequently authorized the admission of a Halovian branch ostracized for its dissonant powers and arranged its settlement among the Purifying Trees of the Fortune Forest Realm 10 11 13 14.

Concerned about Daiyu’s low population and poor fertility, she took a special interest in Yu Xian’er’s pregnancy. She entrusted the mother with a seed containing part of her earliest understanding of Existence, intended for the child when she grew up. After the safe delivery, Ayinai personally blessed the newborn—the first child born since Daiyu’s reconstruction 8 41.

Garden crisis and new leadership

Although Ayinai initially approved of the Garden of Existence, she came to despise its insistence that everyone connected to Existence should join it. Rather than immediately erase its leadership, she observed whether the corruption belonged to particular individuals or the faction as a whole 3 5 6 27.

The crisis also exposed the presence of half of Voracity’s divine remains in her home system, placed there by other Aeons without her involvement in their original battle. When Elder Ge stole power from the seal, Ayinai eventually supported the forces opposing him by secretly infusing Dong Tian’s Antenna with divine power 28 59 66 67.

She invited Dong Tian to become her Emanator and negotiated with Nous and Qlipoth when both sought him as well. Existence became his primary Path, with Erudition and Preservation as secondary powers. After the victory celebrations, Ayinai appointed Amo as Garden Master and permitted Dong Tian to travel with Akivili 62 63 68 72.

Journey to Yaoqing

Before departing, Ayinai reunited her human and divine incarnations, appeared as a vast figure between Daiyu and the Garden, and blessed their territories with Higgs Purifying Trees. She announced her intention to help other living beings across the universe 72.

On Yaoqing, she adopted the name Anna and traveled as an ordinary gardener. Lan helped her obtain long-term residence, and her assigned house turned out to be next door to his. She accepted his offer of friendship 73 74.

Appearance

• Usual form: A beautiful young woman with emerald-green hair, jade-green eyes, and a white dress 4.
• Divine manifestation: Radiates warm green-gold light; her long white dress bears lifelike depictions of animals, plants, and other forms of existence 72.
• Avatars: Can appear in a smaller, youthful form; one such avatar dissolves into golden-green particles when departing 26 38.
• Presence: Even without deliberately releasing her power, her status as an Aeon exerts natural pressure on mortals and Pathstriders 22.

Personality

Ayinai retains unusually strong humanity for an Aeon. The breadth of Existence leaves her less constrained than other gods, and she prefers a carefree manner around trusted followers. Her solemn public image is partly deliberate: she admits that she maintains an Aeon’s dignity before outsiders but feels no need to perform it around Qingzhu or Dong Tian 7 8 63.

She is fiercely protective of those she accepts as her people. Daiyu’s survivors become her responsibility without any expectation of thanks, and she reacts aggressively when other Aeons try to claim her Emanators. Her protectiveness eventually becomes famous throughout the universe 6 19 62 71.

Her respect for existence does not mean answering every plea or preventing every tragedy. She considers personal choices meaningful and generally allows people to bear their consequences. She also dislikes kneeling, regarding it as a defilement of a person’s own meaning of existence 13 21 46.

Her human and divine incarnations emphasize different sides of this outlook. The human incarnation is lively, expressive, and curious; the divine incarnation possesses absolute rationality and composure. Both retain an underlying instruction to respond to the expectations of loyal followers 69 70.

Authority over Existence

Ayinai can restore, preserve, conceal, or attack the existence of her targets 2 19.

• Restores devastated planets and anchors them in space-time so they can reassemble after destruction; this does not restore their dead inhabitants 2.
