Zheng Xun stood there with an air of complete self-assurance.
The referee turned to Jiang Feiguang and asked what he thought.
Jiang Feiguang had been baffled. He had come to challenge Shen Guanyu, become the arena defender, and then successfully defend the arena to boost his popularity even further.
He hadn't expected this uninvited guest to appear halfway through and disrupt his plans.
And the clothes he was wearing... what terrible taste!
He didn't want to waste his time or energy, so he intended to tell the referee he refused the arrangement.
But the weirdo with his head covered spoke first.
"Aren't you known as 'Little Zheng Xun'? If you were Zheng Xun himself, you wouldn't refuse a request like this."
Jiang Feiguang didn't care about anything else, but he did care about being compared to Zheng Xun. He was conflicted: he disliked Zheng Xun, yet unconsciously followed the same path he had taken.
That was why he hated hearing people say he was inferior to Zheng Xun most of all.
But Jiang Feiguang had some sense left and knew he couldn't lose his head. He replied cautiously.
"I'm only myself. I have nothing but contempt for a title like 'Little Zheng Xun.'"
"You're refusing? Then you really can't compare to Zheng Xun. Everyone was right."
The masked man was quick-witted, and those words were what truly angered Jiang Feiguang.
"Fine, I accept," he said, his face darkening. "But not because of Zheng Xun. It's because of your overbearing attitude."
"Oh, if that's how you insist on justifying it to yourself, fine."
"You-" The masked man's words were truly grating, and Jiang Feiguang found his tone a little familiar.
"Are you a fan of Zheng Xun?" Jiang Feiguang asked.
"Sort of."
"No wonder." Jiang Feiguang smiled knowingly. "You've come to stand up for your idol? I wouldn't bother. It's your own body, and there's no need to go that far for someone else."
"You sure talk a lot of crap," the masked man said, growing impatient. "Zheng Xun doesn't trouble his fans with fights. He handles them himself. I'm standing here because I want the prize money."
"Prize money?"
"What, can't stand the sight of a poor person? I like money, that's all."
Successfully defending the arena in Infinite Round came with a large cash prize, paid directly into the winner's account.
The masked man's explanation made sense.
There were spectators below the arena, and they were close enough to hear the exchange.
"Is this guy a fan of Zheng Xun?"
"With the way he talks like he's trying to drive people mad, he's definitely a fan."
"Zheng Xun's fans really are crouching tigers and hidden dragons."
"Anyone can talk big. I don't think he has any real skill."
"Let's watch Jiang Feiguang instead. He's had some standout moments in his last two dungeons."
Jiang Feiguang heard the discussion below. Compared with this mysterious man who didn't even dare show his face, he clearly had more support from the crowd.
Feeling more confident, he signaled to the referee.
"Please raise the flag."
After confirming both sides' intentions, the referee waved Shen Guanyu over to one side of the arena. Since there had never been a challenge like this before, he didn't dare send him straight off the stage.
The square flag rose high, then fell.
The match began!
Jiang Feiguang didn't move. "You don't look very experienced, so I'll give you three-"
Before he could say "moves," a blur flashed before his eyes, followed by a heavy blow to his abdomen!
"Cough-"
Jiang Feiguang had no time to react before his opponent's punch landed. It nearly made him throw up his insides.
His opponent had already retreated to a safe distance, ready for the next strike.
The crowd erupted in cheers!
Amid the cheers of ten thousand people, Jiang Feiguang heard his opponent's disdainful voice.
"Still giving me moves?"
Jiang Feiguang wiped the corner of his mouth and straightened up.
He clenched his teeth.
"Cut the crap!"
The two shot toward the center of the arena like arrows loosed from bows and collided.
Another strike!
This time, they had swapped positions and stood with their backs to each other. Suddenly, Jiang Feiguang dropped to one knee.
His opponent had landed a solid hit!
No one had expected this passerby, who had rushed onto the stage at the last minute and dressed in such an individual style, to be so strong!
"He must be a player from some team, right? Did he sneak out to have some fun?"
"I can't tell which guild's combat system he's using. It's only been two moves."
"Looks like a strength-focused fighter? Ten Thousand Ages?"
"Can't be Ten Thousand Ages. They keep a tight rein on their players."
The fight that followed flowed smoothly. It was practically a one-sided spectacle of Jiang Feiguang getting beaten up.
The masked man had covered himself thoroughly, but that hadn't narrowed his field of vision. He could quickly anticipate Jiang Feiguang's movements and counter every move.
Jiang Feiguang was utterly unable to fight back!
And whether intentional or not, the spectators gradually noticed that the masked fighter seemed to be holding back.
"He doesn't look like he wants to end this quickly. With fighting skills that impressive, he could've kicked Jiang Feiguang off the stage ages ago, right?"
"Jiang Feiguang looks so miserable. I almost feel sorry for him."
"Does he have a grudge against Jiang Feiguang or something?"
Jiang Feiguang was frustrated too. He could neither advance nor retreat: if he went in, he got beaten down, and if he tried to leave, he was forcibly dragged back.
This was way too dirty!
Finally, as if he had vented enough, the masked man casually kicked Jiang Feiguang off the stage, ending the fight.
The referee raised his flag.
Jiang Feiguang lost, and the nameless challenger won!
The spectators applauded and whistled, celebrating the victory of the man onstage.
Only Cheng Jie, in the second-tier stands, stood out.
Seeing the fight end, he breathed a sigh of relief. Anyone with eyes could see that Zheng Xun had been messing with Jiang Feiguang. All he could do was pray that it didn't go too far.
Fortunately, the man was still alive.
Being alive was enough.
Having vented his emotions, Zheng Xun returned to normal. He planned to fight Shen Guanyu, then play dead and leave the stage.
But when he turned around, two rows of people had suddenly appeared behind him.
Zheng Xun: ?
"If you're here to challenge Shen Guanyu, line up. Wait until I'm done."
A male fighter of medium height at the very front shook his head.
"No, we want to challenge you."
"?" Zheng Xun looked at the referee. "You can do that?"
He raised the question, but the fighters who had come onstage after him had something to say too.
"Just like you, we want to challenge Shen Guanyu. But before that, we have to defeat you."
??
Using magic to defeat magic??
Zheng Xun now understood what it meant to lift a rock only to drop it on his own foot. He helplessly rubbed his hair, though all he could reach was the thick scarf.
"All right, come on."
The male fighter who had just spoken stepped forward.
"No, no." Zheng Xun wagged a finger, moving it from left to right through the air. "All of you at once."
The fighter froze for a moment and exchanged looks with the people beside him.
"Well..."
"All at once. I'm in a hurry. I don't have time to play with you."
A stir ran through the crowd.
"That kid talks big! There are one, two... eight fighters onstage!"
"Isn't he being too arrogant? He only beat Jiang Feiguang. What's he so confident about?"
"Weren't you just singing Jiang Feiguang's praises..."
"You heard wrong. That definitely wasn't me."
This novel way of fighting had left the referee baffled too.
He pressed a hand to his Bluetooth earpiece and spoke to someone in charge on the other end, though it wasn't clear who. Only after confirming it repeatedly did he nod to Zheng Xun.
"No problem. Fighters on both sides, please get ready."
