A Heartless, Cheating Scumbag Woman in a Matriarchal World (Nineteen)
Liu He packed his things early in the morning and hurried to catch the first train to City A.
When he reached the apartment, he had barely warmed the stool before he headed into the kitchen to make a few dishes.
Jiang Xuefu had just come home when she saw Liu He busy in the kitchen. She froze for a moment. "Dad? Why did you come by yourself? You should've told me so I could pick you up."
"Oh, there's no need. I've been here so many times I know the way by heart."
Rong Feng, who had come in behind Jiang Xuefu, hesitated before calling out, "Dad."
That left Liu He stunned. He had been in the kitchen, where the light wasn't very good, and had only known his daughter was home. He hadn't looked closely.
Now that Rong Feng had spoken, he finally noticed a man standing behind Jiang Xuefu.
And he was no stranger, either. Wasn't that the Rong Family's eldest son, Rong Chao's older brother, Rong Feng?
"You two..." Liu He, who prided himself on having seen it all, was at a rare loss for words. His gaze swept over the three of them before settling on Jiang Xuefu.
"Ahem, Dad, it's just what you're thinking. Xiao Feng stays here occasionally."
Liu He nodded. He understood what she meant, but he wasn't all that shocked. After all, when he had pushed Chen Yu on Jiang Xuefu, she hadn't even been divorced yet.
But rather than shocked, he was proud.
She truly was Liu He's daughter. So many men wanted to follow her, even without a name or a place at her side.
"All right, now that you're back, let's eat. I brought some pickles from the countryside. You should all have a taste today."
Liu He ushered them to their seats, then made a point of giving Jiang Xuefu and Chen Yu each a bowl of chicken soup with the most tender leg meat. "Eat up, sweethearts. It's free-range chicken, very nourishing. Xiao Yu, you should build up your strength too. This sort of thing takes a toll on a man's body. It's best to replenish yourself early."
Rong Feng silently glanced at the chicken soup beside Chen Yu, a flash of envy in his eyes.
When would he get to...?
Lately, Jiang Xuefu had been riding high on the spring breeze. The only thing that might have been going poorly was the matter of Xie Jinhua.
She had gone to see Xie Jinhua twice, but he had either been busy or had a meeting to attend. He was clearly avoiding her.
Things had gotten even more outrageous recently. Taking advantage of Xie Ning's winter break, he had taken him straight to visit the Xie family's old madam, who had settled in Switzerland.
Just like that, she had lost both her god of wealth and her little lover.
"President Jiang, this is the Firmament acquisition proposal. It needs your signature." The assistant knocked and came in, placing a document on the desk.
With Xie Jinhua away recently, many company matters had fallen to her as general manager.
The Firmament acquisition in front of her, for example, had originally been overseen by Xie Jinhua. After he left, it had become her responsibility too.
"Mm, leave it there. I'll look at it in a bit."
After finishing the work at hand, Jiang Xuefu picked up her coffee and took a small sip. She opened the document her assistant had just brought in and read it carefully for a while. Seeing no problems, she signed at the bottom.
She was finally almost done. These past few days, she had been busy acquiring Firmament and dealing with all sorts of year-end matters, big and small. She felt like a spinning top, working around the clock. Even her coffee beans were being used up several times faster.
The Xie Corporation had deep pockets and plenty of clout. Everyone thought its acquisition of Firmament was a nail hammered into a board, but unexpectedly, Xu Zhu appeared out of nowhere halfway through.
Armed with an acquisition proposal identical to the Xie Corporation's, she arrived ahead of the time Firmament and the Xie Corporation had agreed on. She successfully snatched the deal, signing the contract and securing Firmament.
Outside the Firmament building, Xu Zhu held the signed contract and looked at Jiang Xuefu, who had arrived a step too late, with mockery in her eyes.
"President Jiang, you still need more experience in the business world, or you might lose both the lady and your troops."
Jiang Xuefu stared coldly at Xu Zhu, her cool, aloof features looking even more distant against the ice and snow. She couldn't be bothered wasting words and slapped her across the face. Xu Zhu hadn't expected her to strike so suddenly. She staggered several steps in her high heels, and before her assistant could catch her, she fell awkwardly against the hood of the car.
"You!" Xu Zhu glared at her in anger, thinking her utterly stubborn and blind. Death was at her door, yet she was still so arrogant.
At the thought of her scheme, Xu Zhu abruptly calmed down. She got to her feet and smoothed her somewhat disheveled hair. "President Jiang, while the police haven't arrived yet, hurry up and enjoy your last moments of freedom."
The police?
Jiang Xuefu frowned and was about to question her when police sirens sounded. A police car came to a steady stop beside them.
Two aunties in police uniforms got out of the car. "Which of you is Jiang Xuefu?"
Jiang Xuefu was taken away by the police for questioning on suspicion of stealing trade secrets.
After Xu Zhu bribed her mole in the company to steal the acquisition proposal, she had her frame Jiang Xuefu for it.
She had thought this would at least make Jiang Xuefu suffer a little. If things went smoothly, she might even end up in prison.
But unexpectedly, on the very night Jiang Xuefu was taken away by the police, Xie Jinhua hurried back from Switzerland on a private jet and got her out of the police station.
In a luxury car outside the police station.
"Fufu." Xie Jinhua held the woman before him tightly, his body even trembling slightly. His face looked somewhat haggard, and his hair looked as though he hadn't had time to fix it. One look was enough to tell he had rushed over.
"I'm fine, President Xie. Why did you suddenly come back?" Jiang Xuefu was a little tired, but she really was fine. The police hadn't even had time to do anything before he got her out.
Xie Jinhua's arms suddenly tightened around Jiang Xuefu. His eyes flickered, and his long lashes lowered slightly as silence and unease spread through the air.
He wasn't sure whether this was good or bad for Fufu.
"That day, after you left, I collected some of what was left on the bed... and the pairing at the hospital was successful."
Xie Jinhua knew that what he had done was rather shameless, but he had no other choice.
Fufu keeps refusing to accept me. Would things be better if we had a child?
At some point, heavy snow had begun to fall outside the car window, swirling as if it meant to cover the entire city. Jiang Xuefu sat there in a daze, taking a long while to process it.
She and Xie Jinhua had a child? Then what about Xie Ning?
Once a hospital pairing succeeded, it meant a life had already formed and could not be terminated midway.
It was all a mess, a complete mess.
