The arrival of the student council president and the Public Morals Committee chair had not put an end to the conflict. Instead, it threatened to make things worse, something no one had expected. Right now, the most important thing was to deal with the person "going crazy" in front of them, not do nothing!
With that in mind, Mayumi Saegusa stepped slowly forward. She raised a hand, revealing the CAD on her wrist.
By doing so, she was showing Yunyi that she was not activating her CAD, hoping to put him less on guard. Everyone else turned their attention to her as she moved.
"Liu Yunyi, although I still don't know what happened, I don't think things needed to go this far. So, could you please put your classmate down so we can talk this over?"
Yunyi turned his gaze to Mayumi Saegusa as well. He raised an eyebrow and asked coldly, "In what capacity are you saying that? As a daughter of the Saegusa Family? Or as First High School's student council president?"
The question seemed simple, but it was anything but. For Mayumi Saegusa in particular, it was a question that was difficult to answer.
Although she did not yet know the details of the conflict, Yunyi's earlier mocking reference to the "Bloom" lord had been enough for Mayumi Saegusa to guess that it was probably caused by the long-standing problems between the two courses.
Yet if Mayumi, who wanted to mediate the conflict, spoke as student council president, she had undoubtedly failed. During her three years in office, she had not only failed to maintain a balance between Course 1 and Course 2 Students, but had even allowed relations between them to grow increasingly strained.
Of course, this was not Mayumi Saegusa's fault alone, but it also meant that, as student council president, she was powerless to resolve the conflict between the two sides. Likewise, Yunyi, who was involved in the conflict, naturally had reason to believe that the student council president's intervention could not resolve the problem at hand.
If she intervened as a daughter of the Saegusa Family, her status certainly carried enough weight. But using that status would also mean that she had failed as First High School's student council president. Moreover, given the Saegusa Family's standing, if she did make a decision, neither side in the conflict could object, even if her position or the outcome was biased. That was the power wielded by the Ten Master Clans, who controlled Japan's magic world.
After a moment's thought, Mayumi Saegusa said softly, "No, I'm speaking neither as the student council president nor as a daughter of the Saegusa Family. I'm simply a student of First High School making you a proposal that would benefit both of us. After all, if this continues, things will get out of hand. What do you say, Liu Yunyi?"
Yunyi was taken aback for a moment, then burst out laughing.
As he laughed, he released his grip. Shun Morisaki, who was on the verge of passing out, fell to the floor, his body still twitching.
"As expected of a daughter of the Saegusa Family. You chose the most suitable position. Commendable." Yunyi looked at Mayumi Saegusa and praised her sincerely, even feeling an urge to applaud.
Of course, he did no such thing. After all, he had intervened and exposed himself at that earlier moment only so he could better carry out his next plan. And for what came next, he had chosen to take a gamble.
"So, what now?" Yunyi spread his hands and looked at Mayumi Saegusa. "I've let him go. What are you going to do next?"
"Please come with me," Mayumi Saegusa said. "This isn't the place to talk, is it?"
Yunyi chuckled and started toward Mayumi Saegusa. The moment he stepped forward, Mari Watanabe and the others, who had been immobilized by an unknown magic, regained their ability to move.
Having witnessed how Mayumi Saegusa handled the situation, she naturally would not rush in and disrupt Mayumi's plan. Even so, there was a hint of wariness in her gaze as she looked at Yunyi.
The others followed as well. Now that things had reached this point, no one present could remain uninvolved. Of course, Shun Morisaki, who lay twitching on the floor, was an exception. He was taken to the infirmary, and his testimony would be taken only after he had been examined and treated.
They were led to a conference room. It was used by First High School's teachers for meetings, but it was also a suitable place to talk.
Once inside the conference room, Yunyi's first words were a complaint. "There don't seem to be many teachers in all of First High School, yet they still set aside a conference room for them. How strange."
His complaint struck a chord with no one. Everyone looked at him strangely.
Neither Mayumi nor Mari Watanabe had any intention of chatting with him. Once everyone was seated, Mayumi went straight to her question.
"I can guess the general reason for what happened, but I'd like to know the details."
"What other reason could there be? The so-called 'Bloom' lords, the elites of Course 1, came looking for trouble."
Yunyi's answer to Mayumi Saegusa was anything but polite, directly identifying the cause of the conflict.
His answer displeased the Course 1 Students. But before he could speak, Yunyi raised his hand, pointed at several of them, and said, "These guys kept pestering Tatsuya Shiba's little sister at noon. They even put on airs and got in the way of the brother and sister having lunch together."
"Then, after school, these guys came to harass them again, even insulting them. And that annoying guy was the one who attacked first. I only struck back after he made his move."
After hearing Yunyi's account, none of those he had pointed out offered a rebuttal. Shizuku Kitayama and Honoka Mitsui were among them.
Normally, Yunyi's words would have been enough to stir up the Course 1 Students' arrogance. But having seen him subdue Shun Morisaki with ease, and with Mayumi Saegusa and Mari Watanabe present, they could only grit their teeth and accept it.
Now that they knew what had happened, the rest was naturally easier to settle. Of course, handling this kind of problem was the Public Morals Committee's job, not Mayumi Saegusa's.
"I understand the situation now," Mari Watanabe said. "Given the seriousness of this incident, I believe it needs to be dealt with severely. But considering that you're all new students, and that the party more seriously at fault was also injured in the conflict, I'd like to ask both sides whether you agree to a settlement."
"However, even if you settle, all of your conduct will be under close watch by the Public Morals Committee for some time to come. If anything similar happens again, it will be dealt with severely, together with this incident."
