"You're coming home later and later these days! I'm starving… starving!"
As Sean stepped through the door, he immediately felt the deep resentment of a certain blonde loli. Mindy, eating ice cream, rolled around on the sofa, using this method to protest the late return of her nanny and part-time cook.
"Hey, hey, hey, let's be reasonable, Mindy McCready. I give you enough allowance every day, enough for you to eat your fill at the Chinese restaurants in Chinatown or the Burger King nearby."
Sean closed the door, looking speechlessly at the persistent little loli. This former killer, Hit-Girl, had completely transformed into a lazy, spoiled, and attention-seeking couch potato. Living a life of ease where everything was handed to her, Sean felt that bringing her back was a terrible mistake.
"I'm practically becoming your housekeeper, Miss Mindy." Sean grumbled under his breath, but his body honestly moved to put on an apron and start preparing dinner.
"Sean, besides being the most thoughtful nanny in the world, you're also the best chef and the most generous ATM!" Mindy, lounging on the sofa watching How I Met Your Mother, didn't hold back her praise.
"Oh, right, did you get into a fight today?" the little loli asked, turning her head.
Sean grunted from the kitchen. Mindy was very sensitive to smells on her body; if he had participated in a fight or battle, she would be able to detect it.
"I helped a superhero take care of a major villain. I think the New York Police Department should issue me a commendation certificate to encourage my selfless act of intervening when I saw injustice!"
Mindy scoffed at Sean's shameless self-praise, expressing her disdain and contempt. The assassination of Wilson Fisk that shocked New York last week had yet to subside. The mayor and the Police Chief had jointly issued statements, vowing to catch the killer and bring the cruel and terrifying criminal to justice.
As a result, all the gangs in Hell's Kitchen were affected to varying degrees. Under pressure from above, the police began a frantic investigation, not letting go of even the slightest clue, practically turning the New York underworld upside down. Those Irish and Japanese members of The Hand, who thought they had gotten away with a great deal, were probably having a headache right now.
"Are the police still investigating the assassination of Kingpin?" Sean asked, turning his head.
He had underestimated the impact of the death of a prominent real estate tycoon. Furthermore, this wasn't a simple assassination; heavy firepower like rocket launchers was used, making it almost an act of terrorism. It was no wonder the New York Police Department was going crazy!
"Don't worry, they're still using their same old, tired investigation methods: starting with the weapon, tracking down black market arms dealers, monitoring recently arrived retired soldiers or assassins… If they keep searching like this, they won't find us even if it's the end of the world."
The battle-hardened little loli Mindy looked calm. Her father had been an elite police officer, so she knew the police's methods inside and out. Hacking into the New York Police Department's database was a piece of cake for her.
"I'm not worried about the police; we cleaned up all the clues thoroughly. I'm mainly worried about that organization getting involved, that would be troublesome…" Sean finished making a hearty dinner and dragged the lazily reclining Mindy to the dining table.
He didn't want to attract S.H.I.E.L.D.'s attention too early and be targeted by that one-eyed director; it would surely lead to a bad end.
"Remember to wash the dishes after you eat… Don't try to be cute. We agreed to take turns, and it's your turn today!" Sean looked at her big, watery eyes without any emotional fluctuation. Although he wasn't a Saint, the same trick used too many times was no longer effective.
As night deepened, after enjoying dinner, Sean glanced at Mindy, who was obediently clearing the plates to wash them, and felt secretly satisfied. The path to disciplining a troublesome child was still long, and he was already pleased with this much progress.
Back in his room, preparing for his daily physical training, Sean frowned. He felt a vague strangeness in his mind. This peculiar sensation had been present since he last killed Kingpin and Bullseye, and it had become even clearer after he personally dealt with the Green Goblin tonight.
"What's going on?"
Calming himself, Sean closed his eyes and carefully felt the soft white light in his mind. The system panel, which hadn't appeared for a long time, surfaced once more. On the previously hazy framework, in addition to the card option activated last time, there was a new choice and a string of clear data.
"...Points Exchange?" As his consciousness immersed into it, Sean felt a bit confused. What was this?
Ever since he accidentally activated the card option last time, Sean had spent some time researching the system that came from a virtual fighting game. Apart from the mysterious potion from the beginning, the system's presence had always been very low. It didn't issue missions, give any instructions, or even have a dialogue function.
This made Sean think he had gotten a fake system. As for the newly activated card option, he had tested it many times himself. It had to be a famous person from this world—like a superhero or a popular character—who voluntarily offered some kind of teaching or guidance to generate cards of various levels. These were roughly divided into two categories: "Skill Cards" and "Item Cards."
In simple terms, if Tony Stark voluntarily told Sean how to build the Arc Reactor, he would get a blueprint for the "Arc Reactor." If the Sorcerer Supreme in Nepal was willing to take Sean as a disciple and teach him profound and mysterious magical knowledge, then he could acquire a pile of magic skill cards…
It was equivalent to a cheat for rapid learning…
However, after repeated experiments, Sean found that card generation had a probability and wasn't 100% successful, so he put the matter aside after studying it for a while.
After all, at this stage, he could neither go find the Sorcerer Supreme to become his disciple nor boldly rush up to Tony Stark and ask about the manufacturing method of his Iron Armor.
"Exchange system… Could it be that, like in a game, I can use points to exchange for mission items?"
Sean felt a hidden excitement. He remembered that in the original game store, there were mission items from various virtual spaces. If he could exchange for them, it would be the most powerful trump card in his hand!
"Defeated D+ rank character: Bullseye, reward 80 points!"
"Defeated C+ rank character: Kingpin, reward 100 points!"
"Defeated B rank character: Green Goblin, reward 200 points!"
"...System Store initialization complete!"
Sean suppressed his excitement and quietly opened the System Store, which was flashing with faint white light. A dazzling array of data lists filled his entire brain. These were core items from various virtual spaces—
"Terminator World: Skynet, a computer-based artificial intelligence defense system created by humans in the late 20th century…"
"Star Wars World: The Force, a supernatural and ubiquitous power with immense potential for improvement…"
"Limitless World: NZT-48, it can unlock the potential in the brain, connect every neural synapse, and give oneself photographic memory and super intelligence…"
Sean's breathing became slightly heavier. He could almost hear his heart pounding violently. This was simply an inexhaustible treasure trove that offered anything one desired. The technological power and crystallized civilizations of different worlds were like goods on display, waiting for him to exchange and acquire, equivalent to having the core support of countless worlds behind him.
"Perhaps my footsteps are not limited to this world…"
The wild joy lasted only a few seconds before Sean quickly calmed down. He calculated how to maximize the use of the few points he had. His gaze swept over the rows of shimmering data lists, finally settling on one item.
"With this, Osborn's problem becomes simple."
Sean exhaled. His young face was full of longing and anticipation for the future. The Avengers, Infinity Stones, cosmic overlords… these would not be the end of his journey. Infinite wonders awaited him to explore!
