Background / History
Lin Xiye transmigrated into the cultivation world and was born as the young master of Qiao Town’s Lin Household. His Spirit Root was discovered at three, but it proved to be the lowest grade: a False Spirit Root. He entered the Falling Rosy Clouds Sect at ten through his lineage’s Immortal Ascension Token 1 3.
His father had been both a Lin Household patriarch and an Early Bone Refining cultivator. A mistake in the sect prevented his father from becoming an inner disciple, depriving Lin Xiye of a potentially stronger family legacy within the sect 2.
Despite a century of strenuous cultivation, Lin Xiye reached only Middle Blood Refining. During this period, he briefly practiced a fragmentary evil secret-rune technique; he abandoned it after reaching Blood Refining and sensing that his cultivation was becoming unstable 1 14.
After failing his fifth inner-sect assessment, he was required to leave within three days. He received a token allowing a Spirit Root descendant to enter the sect and returned to Qiao Town with, at most, ten years left to live. His relatives from childhood had long since died, but the household had preserved his old residence 1 2.
Appearance
- Hair: Snowy white, later described as long and silver-white 2 7.
- Clothing: Commonly wears a gray robe 2 7 33.
- Features: Retains an aged face and white hair after entering Bone Refining, despite his renewed vitality 5.
Personality
A century of hardship has made Lin Xiye composed, persistent, and wary of unnecessary risks. Even discovering the Immortal-Appraising Treasure Mirror prompts concern about exposure rather than uncontrolled celebration. He conserves his strength while traveling and immediately avoids a distant battle between Spirit Nourishing cultivators 3 16 17.
His caution does not prevent decisive violence. He kills threatening enemies without hesitation and treats the elimination of hostile bloodlines—including the Zhao Household’s women and children—as protection against future revenge. Although he promises not to abuse innocents, he explicitly places enemy clans outside that protection 8 32.
Lin Xiye feels genuine affection and obligation toward the Lin Household, which supplied his daily necessities during his sect years. His ambition also makes their relationship mutually beneficial: a prosperous household can supply his cultivation, while his growing strength protects its expansion 2 41.
As a leader, he values practical ability, rewards, and shared conviction. He delegates routine administration to Lin Changge, offers advancement to meritorious servants and guards, and insists that the household learn to endure losses without relying on him for everything 9 10 28 37.
Abilities & Skills
Body Tempering
His cultivation strengthens his body, Qi and Blood, and physical resilience.
- At Blood Refining, he can exert approximately one hundred thousand jin of force and possesses the realm’s resistance to ordinary poisons and miasma 1 4.
- At Organ Refining, a casual arm swing can unleash ten million jin of force 18.
- Moves quickly enough to leave afterimages and traverse terrain that would seriously obstruct mortals 16 18.
- Uses his Qi and Blood to warm an exhausted, snow-covered Lin Changge 40.
Immortal-Appraising Treasure Mirror
Lin Xiye’s central advantage is a treasure capable of appraising and elevating things by consuming resources.
- Improves his aptitude from a False Spirit Root to Profound grade, allowing his body to absorb Spiritual Qi automatically 3 10.
- Enhances pills, herbs, cultivation manuals, talismans, and Law Treasures; also improves Black Mountain’s aptitude 5 11 17 42.
- Accepts mundane wealth—including gold, silver, jade, and agate—as resources for suitable upgrades 3 11 17.
- Cannot consume previously enhanced resources to fund further enhancements 17.
- Requires increasingly valuable resources for higher-grade improvements; some upgrades need Spirit Stone fragments or complete low-grade Spirit Stones 17 42.
- Consumes the fewest resources when upgrading cultivation methods and the most when improving his aptitude 50.
Cultivation Methods
| Method | Use and limitations |
|---|---|
| Scarlet Flame Dao Scripture | His primary cultivation method. The mirror expands his fragmentary scripture into two volumes supporting cultivation through Core Formation 5 17 18. |
| Lesser Five Elements Sword Technique | A sword-path method he studies with particular interest. He intends to begin practicing it after entering Spirit Nourishing; mastery is not established 18. |
| Myriad Beasts Scripture | A beast-taming method upgraded to Foundation Establishment level 18. |
| Water Melody Art | A water-path method upgraded to Foundation Establishment level 18. |
| Insect Rearing Scripture | An incomplete manual taken from the Zhao Household ancestor, recording methods for raising and controlling poisonous insects up to Foundation Establishment. He considers obtaining insect eggs but has not yet established an insect force 24. |
| Breath Concealment Technique | Purchases an incomplete page attributed to a Core Formation cultivator. He expects the mirror to restore or improve it; its use is not yet demonstrated 50. |
Formation and Treasure Combat
Lin Xiye combines stronger treasures with deception and preparation rather than relying solely on his own realm.
- Feigns submission to Zhao Renjia before striking him with five Flame Talismans and activating a killing formation 20.
- Uses the Three Talents Formation Flags offensively while sheltering behind the Earth River Shield 33.
- Requires Spirit Stone fragments to activate Spirit-Nurturing Grade Law Treasures before reaching Spirit Nourishing, and cannot yet use Foundation Establishment Grade Law Treasures 17 37.
- Uses displayed Five Thunder Talismans to intimidate the Song elders without immediately expending them 36.
Household Management
- Assigns younger clansmen to accounting, commerce, or independent responsibilities according to their talents 9.
- Orders the recruitment of children, especially orphans, with cultivation instruction for those possessing Spirit Roots and martial training for others 13.
- Encourages childbirth through rewards, with additional incentives for children born with Spirit Roots 13.
- Promises fair rewards regardless of bloodline, including future lifespan-extension opportunities for meritorious mortals; these pills remain beyond his current abilities 10.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Immortal-Appraising Treasure Mirror — Palm-sized ancient mirror engraved with intricate runes, discovered in his father’s courtyard. He initially conceals it in an underground chamber protected by a warning illusion array 3 4.
- Three Talents Formation Flags — Spirit-Nurturing Grade formation treasure restored from the Zhao third elder’s damaged flag. Creates a killing field using metal, wood, and fire; demonstrated covering fifty meters 11 33.
- Earth River Shield — Middle-grade Spirit Nourishing defensive Law Treasure seized from the Zhao Household ancestor 23 24.
- Two Five Thunder Talisman Treasures — Enhanced from captured low-level talismans, then raised to quasi-Foundation Establishment grade using two low-grade Spirit Stones. Unlike Law Treasures, Talisman Treasures have no cultivation requirement for activation 34 38 46.
- Flame Talismans and Spirit Poison Bottles — Purchased and strengthened before the Zhao attack. The enhanced poison bottles can threaten Spirit Nourishing cultivators 16 17.
- Foundation Establishment Grade Spirit Gathering Formation — Obtained in an extremely incomplete state; later selected for repair 17 37.
- Spirit Tempering Grass — Upgrades ordinary or ten-year-old stalks into century-old medicinal resources for cultivation and trade 6 45 46 50.
- Origin Stabilizing Pills — Enhances two bottles to Spirit-Nurturing Grade for cultivation and rapid recovery 46.
- Defective Spirit Nurturing Pill — Acquires from the black market master in exchange for three century-old Spirit Tempering Grass stalks; consumption is not documented 50.
- Immortal Ascension Token — Received upon leaving the sect, granting a qualifying descendant direct admission 1.
Relationships
- Lin Changge — Current household head and principal administrator. Lin Xiye considers him reasonably competent, entrusts him with implementing reforms, and promises him a future means of extending his life despite his lack of a Spirit Root 7 9 10.
- Black Mountain — Contracted tiger companion and former mount of the Zhao envoy. Lin Xiye assigns it to guard Qiao Town, rewards it with Spirit Stone fragments, and improves its aptitude to Profound grade; the enhancement shrinks it to house-cat size 6 28 42.
- Lin Xiye’s father — Former patriarch and Bone Refining cultivator. His preserved courtyard contains Lin Xiye’s childhood toys and the treasure mirror 2 3.
- Falling Rosy Clouds Sect — Former sect. Its reputation sheltered the Lin Household for a century, but Lin Xiye refuses to return after his breakthrough because of its restrictions and the risk of exposing the mirror 1 5 24.
- Zhao Household — Enemy lineage whose attempt to seize Qiao Town triggers Lin Xiye’s campaign to replace it as the regional power 8 13 32.
- Song Household — Stronger neighboring power that extracts a territorial concession. Lin Xiye accepts temporary peace while intending to reclaim the loss 35 37.
- Black market master — Middle Spirit Nourishing cultivator who trades him a defective pill, facilitates his technique purchase, and offers a token for future medicinal trades. The attention makes Lin Xiye wary 50.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Discovery of the Mirror
While revisiting his father’s courtyard, Lin Xiye discovers the Immortal-Appraising Treasure Mirror. Its improvement of his aptitude and a Body Tempering Pill restores his hope of longevity. He conceals the treasure, breaks through to Bone Refining, and chooses to build an independent cultivation foundation through his household rather than rejoin a sect 3 4 5.
War with the Zhao Household
When the Zhao third elder demands most of Qiao Town’s businesses, Lin Xiye kills him and his two hundred guards. He then upgrades captured equipment, purchases combat supplies, and reaches Early Organ Refining before the Zhao Household’s main army arrives 8 11 16 18.
During the defense of Qiao Town, he ambushes Zhao Renjia with Flame Talismans and traps the enemy cultivators in the Three Talents Formation. With assistance from the household’s heavy crossbows, he kills the Zhao ancestor and captures the surviving troops 20 23 24.
Conquest of Zichuan City
Lin Xiye supports the household’s march on Zichuan City but initially lets its members fight to develop their own resolve. He ultimately kills the remaining Zhao cultivators and orders the lineage’s extermination 28 30 32.
When the Bai, Xu, and Zhou households challenge Lin authority, he kills their ancestors and destroys their forces. Smaller powers surrender and are left for Lin Changge to administer 33 34.
Settlement with the Song Household
The Song Household’s fifth and seventh elders demand that the Lin Household abandon Zichuan City. Lin Xiye counters with his formation and talismans, then negotiates while refusing to surrender either the city or the Zhao treasury 35 36.
He ultimately cedes five hundred li of territory to avoid an immediate war. He uses the humiliation to urge the younger generation toward self-improvement, then withdraws to recover and strengthen his resources 37.
Silver Vein and Guyuan City
After a vast silver vein is discovered near Clear Spring Town, Lin Xiye instructs Lin Changge to delay rival powers—or temporarily yield if necessary—while he seeks stronger resources. He plans to confront Blood Wolf Hall and establish the Lin Household’s strength by killing one or two of its Spirit Nourishing cultivators 40 41 46.
At the Three Origins Immortal Market, he sells a century-old herb for four low-grade Spirit Stones and further enhances his Talisman Treasures. He subsequently enters Guyuan City’s underground black market, obtaining a defective Spirit Nurturing Pill and an incomplete Breath Concealment Technique. He remains at Organ Refining Perfection by the end of these dealings 45 46 47 50.
