Background / History
Previous Life and Reincarnation
Tang San grew up as an outer sect disciple of the Tang Sect without family or friends. Surviving among its lethal Hidden Weapons and poison arts taught him to prioritize ruthlessness and personal interests. He mastered the sect’s various skills and retained that knowledge after reincarnation 16 86.
In Holy Soul Village, he was raised as Tang Hao’s son. He inherited the Clear Sky Hammer from his father and understood Blue Silver Grass to be the inheritance of his deceased mother 65.
Awakening and Attempted Murder of Xiao Yan
At the village awakening ceremony, Tang San urged Su Yuntao to begin without the absent Xiao Yan, despite having been the last village child to arrive himself. After awakening Blue Silver Grass, he insisted on a Soul Power test and was revealed to possess Innate Full Soul Power 1.
He interpreted Su Yuntao’s attention to Xiao Yan and Xiao Cao as disrespect, invoking Tang Sect rules to regard them as enemies deserving death. When Xiao Cao called her own Blue Silver Grass a “Trash Martial Soul,” Tang San grabbed her clothing and demanded that she retract the insult. Xiao Yan intervened 2.
After Old Jack awarded him the village’s sole work-study place, Tang San intercepted Xiao Yan before leaving for Nuoding Academy. He overwhelmed Xiao Yan with Tang Sect techniques, forced a poisonous pill into his mouth, and threw him into the river. He then greeted Old Jack affectionately and departed for the academy without revealing the attack 3.
Xiao Yan survived through Yao Lao’s intervention, though the poison had already entered his organs and initially could only be sealed 3.
Nuoding Academy and Xiao Wu
At Nuoding Academy, Tang San became the work-study dormitory’s leader and took Yu Xiaogang, the Grandmaster, as his teacher. He was immediately attracted to Xiao Wu, but she defeated him in their contest for dormitory leadership. He accepted her authority rather than use Hidden Weapons and jeopardize his hopes of winning her over 13.
At Spirit Hall’s banquet, he discovered that Xiao Yan was still alive. Tang San threatened a future death match but refused when Xiao Yan challenged him immediately. Although he considered using a poisoned Hidden Weapon or his concealed Clear Sky Hammer, he feared the intervention of Spirit Hall deputy hall master Yu Tianming 14 15.
Xiao Yan allowed him to leave in repayment of Tang Hao’s past kindness. Tang San departed carrying the unconscious Grandmaster and privately renewed his vow of revenge 15.
Before leaving Nuoding, Tang San asked Xiao Wu to accompany him and become his woman. When she refused and announced that she was going to meet Xiao Yan, he incapacitated the dormitory with Purple Demon Eye, drugged her, and used pills and spiritual manipulation to alter her memories. His stated aim was to make Xiao Yan her enemy and bind her to himself for life 16.
Clear Sky Hammer and Shrek Academy
Tang San rejected Tang Hao’s advice to cultivate Blue Silver Grass while concealing the Clear Sky Hammer. He demanded an explanation of the family’s conflict with Spirit Hall and declared that he would accomplish what his father had not. Tang Hao eventually permitted his choice and promised to watch him from afar 65.
On encountering Ma Hongjun, Tang San attacked him with Controlling Crane Capturing Dragon. Their conflict escalated over Ma Hongjun’s insults and harassment of Xiao Wu, whom Tang San called his sister. Despite Zhao Wuji’s efforts to mediate, Tang San used his ring-enhanced Clear Sky Hammer to send Ma Hongjun flying 64 65.
Over the following two years, friendships at Shrek softened his hostility. The narration attributes this change to his discovery that relationships could involve genuine feeling rather than merely personal benefit 86.
Imperial Palace Battle
After Shrek merged into Heaven Dou Royal Academy, Tang San became its undisputed strongest student and was hailed as the strongest youth of the Heaven Dou Empire. At twelve, his three rings, Clear Sky Hammer, External Soul Bone, and Hidden Weapon craftsmanship drew praise from senior Soul Masters 92 93.
He defended the final platform during an imperial palace competition in which Spirit Hall had already lost the other nine one-on-one matches. Xiao Yan arrived to challenge him, initially without revealing his identity 92 93.
Once he recognized Xiao Yan, Tang San proposed ending their feud. He credited his companions with changing him and said he regretted the earlier attempted murder. Xiao Yan rejected the proposal, arguing that Tang San was treating his victim’s near-death experience as equivalent to his own humiliation 96.
Their battle escalated from Tang San’s Clear Sky Gravity and Disorder Splitting Wind Hammer combination to Xiao Yan’s full Martial Soul and Heavy Xuan Ruler. Outmatched, Tang San refused to surrender and attempted a counterattack with his hammer while taking Xiao Yan’s Flame Splitting Wave Ruler head-on. Xiao Yan broke through his Eight Spider Lances defense and threw him into the flames 95 96 97.
Tang Hao rescued him. He later stated that Xiao Yan’s concealed Third Soul Skill would otherwise have killed Tang San 101.
Another Universe and Ning Fei
Tang San later arrived in another universe as a Great Sage. His Clear Sky Hammer became a natal artifact within his Sea of Bitterness, and Blue Silver Grass began flourishing in the new environment. He resolved to rebuild his magical power and techniques under the world’s laws 132.
He encountered Ning Fei, whose pressure alone forced him to the ground. Rather than leave, Tang San remained near his secluded residence, sensing an opportunity. Ning Fei recognized his potential and considered nurturing him for a future war 132.
By their next documented meeting with Xiao Yan, Tang San had become Ning Fei’s disciple, studied the universe’s ancient histories, and reached Peak Great Sage. He nevertheless continued trying to incorporate Tang Sect methods into the far more powerful arts Ning Fei taught him 139 140.
Tang San opened their renewed confrontation with a Hidden Weapon technique combined with Golden Peng Cutting Technique, grazing Xiao Yan’s neck. Xiao Yan countered through his flames and Quasi-Emperor-grade Heavy Xuan Ruler. Severely injured, Tang San asked White Horse Qingfeng, whom he addressed as martial uncle, to help kill his enemies 140 141.
Appearance
Tang San has ordinary features, black hair, and an average build during his early academy years. At twelve, his simple clothing and unremarkable face make him easy to overlook; his deep eyes are his most distinctive feature 64 65 93.
- Eyes: Occasionally flash purple when associated with Purple Demon Eye 93.
- Later build: Described as a tall, upright young man after arriving in the new universe 132.
- Combat manifestation: The Eight Spider Lances extend behind him as eight spider-leg-like appendages 96.
Personality
Early Tang San is calculating, prideful, and quick to interpret minor slights as grounds for murder. He treats the Mysterious Heaven Treasure Record’s rules as justification for identifying enemies and showing them no mercy. His harmless public manner often conceals hostility: immediately after poisoning Xiao Yan, he greets Old Jack sweetly and hides what happened 2 3.
His attachment to Xiao Wu is explicitly portrayed as possessive and distorted. He refuses to accept her rejection, alters her memories, and later treats the effort he spent controlling her as a reason to punish anyone who insults her 16 65.
Shrek’s friendships bring a genuine reduction in his everyday hostility. He becomes more sociable, acknowledges the value of affection, and later claims to regret his attempt on Xiao Yan’s life. His proposed reconciliation remains self-centered, however, equating that attempted murder with the humiliation he subsequently suffered 86 96.
Tang San remains fiercely loyal to the Tang Sect’s legacy. Even after learning vastly stronger techniques in another universe, he resists Ning Fei’s criticism of his old methods and insists on integrating them into his new cultivation 140.
Abilities & Skills
Clear Sky Hammer
His principal Martial Soul is a Power Attack System tool Martial Soul inherited from Tang Hao. It offers exceptional direct attack power and becomes his main cultivation focus 64 65.
- Clear Sky Gravity: His First Soul Skill produces a dark, expanding field reaching nearly a hundred meters in every direction. It restricts an opponent’s movement while increasing the hammer’s weight 95.
- Thousand-Year Soul Skill: Produces an enormous hammer phantom. Xiao Yan blocks this attack with the Heavy Xuan Ruler 97.
- Natal artifact: After transmigration, the hammer resides in his Sea of Bitterness and is nourished by magical power 132.
- Limit: In their later battle, it cannot withstand the Quasi-Emperor power channeled through Xiao Yan’s ruler without heating up and trembling 140.

- Has previously manufactured Buddha’s Fury Tang Lotus himself 132.
- Uses poison that penetrates Xiao Yan’s organs and threatens his heart; Yao Lao initially seals rather than removes it 3.
- Combines the Thread-Pulling Technique with Golden Peng Cutting Technique to create a rapid, thread-like ambush 140.
- The combined technique leaves a connection along which Xiao Yan’s flames travel back toward him 140.
