Ch. 3Emperor Flame

While absorbing a Thousand-Year Soul Ring, Xiao Yan learned from a flame-made figure called Yan Xiao that they had come from another world and that their body, spirit, and power had been divided and sealed. The figure taught Xiao Yan how to disguise Emperor Flame’s energy as Soul Rings, and Xiao Yan emerged with a plan to grow stronger and uncover their past.

  • Su Yuntao worried that Xiao Yan was rushing by absorbing a Thousand-Year Soul Ring as his first Soul Ring, but stayed to guard him.

  • Hu Liena praised Xiao Yan, and Xie Yue told him to absorb his new Soul Ring while the others rested.
  • Yan marveled at Xiao Yan’s talent, while Xie Yue recalled his unusual Martial Souls and Soul Rings and worried about the tensions surrounding Hu Liena.

  • Xiao Yan absorbed the Ten-Thousand-Year Soul Ring in half a stick of incense, and it appeared earthy yellow rather than purple.
  • Xiao Yan concealed the truth that his apparent Soul Rings were formed from Heavenly Flame energy, then told the group to help Yan find his fifth Soul Ring.
  • The four youths ventured deeper into the Star Dou Great Forest, unknowingly setting out on a course that would change their futures.

Ch. 11The Giant Ape Stood upon the Earth

  • Xiao Yan and the others spotted a young giant ape swimming in a lava lake and considered it as a target for Xiao Yan’s Soul Ring.
  • Ghost Douluo appeared and warned the group that the giant ape’s Titan Giant Ape bloodline could draw the King of the Forest into a fight.
  • Ghost Douluo explained that even he would not dare face the hundred-thousand-year Titan Giant Ape directly.
  • Xiao Yan asked Ghost Douluo whether he could get the group out safely if they hunted the giant ape.
  • Ghost Douluo agreed not to help them hunt, but promised protection if they succeeded and said he had summoned Chrysanthemum Guan.

Ch. 12Hunt for the Ape

Xiao Yan and the Golden Generation put their plan into action to hunt the Magma Giant Ape, using Demon Charm and strengthening pills to weaken it while buying time for Xiao Yan’s reserved attack. • The old man reappeared deep within Spirit Hall, said Xiao Yan’s name, and an angel’s light shone down.

Ch. 17The Way of Pill Refining

Xiao Yan continued relearning alchemy in the workshop Bibi Dong had built for him, but his experiments with local materials could not make up for the absence of Magic Cores. After a day of failed testing, he left the workshop battered and no closer to solving the problem.

  • Yan Xiao told Xiao Yan that his former teacher, Yao Lao, had taught him alchemy and then went dormant to recover.
  • Xiao Yan replenished his soul power and prepared to refine pills in his alchemy room, which Bibi Dong had built and stocked with rare ingredients.
  • Xiao Yan recalled how he and Yan Xiao had worked with master smiths to create a cauldron and refine their first batch of pills in this world.
  • Xiao Yan recognized that Soul Rings produced poor results and that the lack of Magic Cores limited the quality and quantity of his pills.
  • Xiao Yan spent a day testing a natural treasure as a possible substitute for a Magic Core, then left the workshop with his hair blown up and his face black.

Ch. 18True Pills

After abandoning his dangerous experiments, Xiao Yan discovered a native pill made from Soul Beast blood essence and plants. Bibi Dong suggested the blood essence might be the missing ingredient in his pill refining, so Xiao Yan decided to return to the Star Dou Great Forest.

  • Xiao Yan stopped refining pills after an explosion made him a notorious, soot-covered figure in Spirit Hall.
  • Xiao Yan bumped into a young Soul Master and picked up the Mystic Water Pill he had dropped.
  • The young Soul Master explained that the pill could cleanse the sinews and marrow and increase cultivation speed, and Xiao Yan gave him a Storage Soul Tool filled with precious medicinal ingredients.
  • Xiao Yan brought the pill to Bibi Dong, who suggested that Soul Beast blood essence might be the ingredient his pills lacked.
  • Xiao Yan agreed that he would likely need to visit the Star Dou Great Forest again to refine true pills.

Ch. 19Old Friends Reunited

Xiao Yan saved Tang San from the Man Faced Demon Spider, and the childhood friends reunited after six years before clashing over Tang Hao. Xiao Yan left Tang San with the spider’s Soul Ring to absorb, but an eight-ringed old man arrived and threatened to draw him into a dispute over the kill.

  • Tang San wounded the Man Faced Demon Spider with his Clear Sky Hammer, but its venomous counterattack let it escape before he could finish it.
  • Xiao Yan arrived and pinned the fleeing spider with his Heavy Xuan Ruler, allowing Tang San to kill it with the Godly Zhuge Crossbow and claim its Soul Ring.
  • Xiao Yan and Tang San recognized each other, laughed over their awkward reunion, and recalled the years they had supported each other as children.
  • Tang San urged Xiao Yan to reconcile with Tang Hao, but Xiao Yan rejected the suggestion and revealed that he knew Tang Hao was the Clear Sky Douluo.
  • Xiao Yan assured Tang San that he had not told his teacher about Tang Hao, destroyed Tang San’s Hidden Weapons with a punch, and walked away.
  • An eight-ringed old man carrying a dragon-headed cane approached Xiao Yan, apparently bringing a dispute over ownership of the Man Faced Demon Spider.

Ch. 20The Holy Son's Might

Xiao Yan revealed his status as Spirit Hall’s Holy Son and persuaded the Dragon Duke and Snake Granny to protect Tang San while he absorbed the Man Faced Demon Spider’s Soul Ring. After Tang San learned who had helped him, he regarded Xiao Yan as an enemy and continued searching for Xiao Wu.

  • Meng Yiran confronted Xiao Yan over the Man Faced Demon Spider, but Meng Shu stopped her and asked Xiao Yan about his origins.

  • Zhao Wuji and the others arrived as Tang San completed his breakthrough, and Meng Shu told him that Xiao Yan had arranged for his protection.
  • Tang San learned that Xiao Yan had changed his surname and become Spirit Hall’s Holy Son, then privately decided that they were enemies and resumed searching for Xiao Wu.
