Awakening Evol
Xiao Yan stared in shock as a dense cluster of vertical lines formed by gravitational disturbances appeared around the crow ahead!
Caleb hurled the crow high into the air without touching it. It circled once, then flew away.
"Brother!" Xiao Yan was stunned. "You awakened the ability to control gravity?!"
Caleb slowly returned his hand to the steering wheel and gripped it firmly.
He made sure the stretch of road ahead was straight and that no vehicles were approaching from the opposite direction.
Only then did he glance at Xiao Yan. "You said awakened? You mean you already knew I would gain this power sooner or later?"
Of course, she had no way of predicting whether he would gain the ability to control gravity.
It was just that, based on what she knew, seeing him demonstrate his Evol now did not strike her as particularly inconceivable.
Instead of answering, Xiao Yan asked, "When did it happen?!"
Seeing how anxious and tense she was,
Caleb turned his eyes back to the road.
He had already found this whole thing extremely strange.
He had so abruptly acquired a supernatural ability that no field anywhere in the world could explain.
Now it was even stranger. There seemed to be no surprise at all in Xiao Yan's sudden surge of emotion.
Instead, there was excitement and delight?
"You really can foresee things." Caleb asked through gritted teeth, "Why can I control gravity? Why do you insist on calling me your brother? Why did you look so moved when I called you my little sister? As if you'd been waiting a long time for me to call you that."
Xiao Yan truly had no idea how to deal with Caleb's overly defensive personality.
All she could do was raise her voice and shout again, "Tell me! When did you awaken your power!"
Caleb was silent for a few seconds. "The day after I slept with you."
After we slept together?!
Could all five men regain the Evol abilities they had in the game?
And the way to regain them was to have sex with her?!
That was way too ridiculous!
Xiao Yan looked down at herself.
She had never felt that this body contained some mechanism for triggering someone else's Evol awakening...
"I answered your question." Caleb pressed, "What about you? Shouldn't you answer mine?"
Xiao Yan pressed her lips together and said nothing.
After asking twice more and still receiving no response,
Caleb regained his composure and indifference. "I have more than enough time to slowly dig the answers to these questions out of you."
Xiao Yan suddenly understood.
Was this why he had agreed to be the principal husband for the first rotation?
So he hadn't finished his fleet patrol assignment ahead of schedule and returned to the surface, back home, because he wanted to cooperate with the family activities at all.
Today, his apparent submission to Zayne, the compromises he had been forced to make with Xiao Yan, and even his occasional concern had all been an act!
He just wanted answers.
A long silence followed.
They arrived at the venue for Jiang Miao's husband-selection banquet.
Jiang Zhao, the head of the Jiang family, came forward with her daughter to greet them, all smiles.
Xiao Yan had also adjusted her expression by then. She walked up with Caleb. "Auntie Jiang~"
"Oh, Yanyan's here! Welcome, welcome~" Jiang Zhao warmly held out her hand to Xiao Yan.
Taking the opportunity, Xiao Yan slipped her arm out of Caleb's.
She went over to take Jiang Zhao's hand, then hugged the elegant, kind elder.
"Wow, your look today really turns heads, girl!" Jiang Miao grinned beside them.
The three women exchanged pleasantries first.
Xiao Yan could tell that Jiang Zhao really liked her. She kept holding her hand as they spoke, her eyes full of appreciation.
She also mentioned how Jiang Miao had refused to listen today. She had told her to wear a long evening gown, but Jiang Miao had insisted on a short outfit instead.
Xiao Yan thought Jiang Miao was dressed quite appropriately. "She's lively, after all. This fitted blazer with a pleated skirt and those little white boots really suits her."
"Exactly!" Jiang Miao pulled a face at Jiang Zhao and snatched her best friend's hand from her mother. "Hurry up and introduce your men to my mom. Once we get through that, let's go sit and chat in the small hall."
Jiang Zhao had no intention of attending this afternoon tea. She needed to remain in the main hall to continue arranging other matters.
She listened with a smile as Xiao Yan introduced them one by one, nodding to each in greeting.
Then she watched the youngsters walk away, still smiling.
Jiang Miao pulled Xiao Yan into the small hall, which had already been prepared.
Like the main hall, it was lavishly and festively decorated.
A ring of large, comfortable sofas surrounded a spacious open area covered with a soft carpet.
Beside every sofa stood a small table laid with tea and refreshments.
The Jiang family had probably used this small hall for various discussion gatherings before.
Jiang Miao tugged and dragged Xiao Yan over to a sofa and pressed her down onto it.
Then she politely gestured for Caleb to sit.
The wife and principal husband sat together on a two-seater sofa.
Xiao Yan's other four husbands sat down in pairs to her left and right.
Seeing all five of her best friend's men at once left Jiang Miao both curious and happy.
She first ran up to Xavier, grabbed a candy from the nearby table, and pushed it into his hand. "We meet again, Xavier!"
"Mm." Xavier accepted the candy and stood up again, looking around. "My wife said we were coming early to help with some things. Is there anything I can do?"
"No, I just wanted to see you all sooner and have a proper chat." Jiang Miao smiled. "Xiao Yan's introductions of those four to my mom were way too brief. How about you introduce them to me again?"
"Me?" Xavier froze.
He looked to either side. If he introduced them according to his own feelings, he probably would not have anything particularly nice to say.
Beside him, Zayne took the initiative to stand and nodded to Jiang Miao. "Hello, I'm Zayne."
"Dr. Zayne?" Jiang Miao remembered him. She walked up to him and studied him closely. "Wow, you really don't smile much. Are you usually this serious?"
Zayne cleared his throat and managed a fairly gentle smile. "That was rude of me."
"That's much better when you smile. Oh? You're twenty-seven this year, right? Nine years older than Xiao Yan. What's it like living together?"
Zayne thought for a moment. "It's very good."
Jiang Miao held her chin thoughtfully. "Not much of a talker..."
"Don't go too far." Xiao Yan accepted the cup of tea Xavier had poured for her and warned Jiang Miao, "My Dr. Zayne is a serious man. Stop teasing him."
"Oh." Jiang Miao pouted, then smiled at Xavier and Zayne in turn. "Please sit. Help yourselves to tea and snacks. I won't have anyone come over to serve you. We're all among friends anyway."
Both men nodded and sat down.
Jiang Miao then ran over to the two-seater sofa on Xiao Yan's right.
These two men... Jiang Miao remembered that one was a dragon beastman and the other a merfolk beastman.
Their looks were also more visually striking than those of the previous pair.
Sylus remained perfectly at ease under her scrutiny, pouring and drinking his tea as usual.
Rafayel felt a little unnerved by her stare. He stood up and folded his arms. "Eldest Miss Jiang, even if this is your turf, you can't just stare at people so blatantly, can you? That's so rude."
"But you're pretty." Jiang Miao chuckled. "You look like a doll."
Rafayel was displeased. "Being pretty doesn't mean you can keep staring!"
"Aren't men there for women to look at?" Jiang Miao saw nothing wrong with it.
Rafayel frowned. "You..."
"Rafayel is so fun!" Jiang Miao turned excitedly to Xiao Yan. "He's the tsundere type!"
