Just as Chu Yanzhang's hand was about to land on the bandage, Xie Zhuzhou, in a moment of desperation, lifted his head and gave him a hard kiss on the forehead.
Stunned by the kiss, Chu Yanzhang's face instantly turned bright red, his mind seemingly blank. He had almost always been the one to initiate things before, but now Zhouzhou was slowly becoming more proactive. Would Zhouzhou's feelings for him grow from a little bit to a lot?
He released Xie Zhuzhou's foot, his ears turning red as he looked away. He coughed lightly, slowly stood up, and said, " Zhouzhou, if you want to see your mother, you can ask for a photo. Maybe she misses you too."
Xie Zhuzhou nodded.
He knew whether there was any affection between the original owner and Xie Guanxia. The other party wouldn't call the original owner, and the original owner wouldn't call him either. The affection between mother and son seemed to be negligible.
Having heard that her mother had started a new family, the original owner had no intention of bothering her.
On one hand, there was concern that things might be difficult to handle on her side; on the other hand, perhaps because the original owner had never experienced much family affection, and therefore felt that it wasn't really necessary.
"The photo? I asked, but will Father give it to me? He might not even remember what she looks like." Xie Zhuzhou pulled Chu Yanzhang's hand, stood up, and pretended to limp.
Given his exceptional talent, it wouldn't be surprising if he recovered tomorrow.
Even that idiot Chu Little Yan would believe it.
"Then don't you miss her?"
"In no mood."
"Why?" When Chu Yanzhang was a child, he also wondered what his parents were like, but after accidentally overhearing that he had actually been abandoned, he stopped having any illusions and spent his childhood and adolescence studying.
Because of his excellent academic performance and frequent scholarships, Chu Yanzhang's career path was very smooth. However, his return to the Chu Family later negatively impacted his studies.
After he went blind, he began to question the meaning of human existence. He couldn't live off others and looked down on himself for being useless. He wanted to start over, perhaps in the next life.
Unexpectedly, he met Xie Zhuzhou on the way. It seemed that he had found someone to pass the time with and learned to enjoy life.
Xie Zhuzhou replied lazily, "Why are there so many 'whys' in life? Besides, I haven't suffered much since I was born. Real suffering is the hardship one endures for survival. What I've experienced is nothing. Therefore, I believe that gains and losses in life are predetermined by fate. Excessive thinking will only lead you into trouble. It's better to live in the present."
Given the choice between lacking love and lacking money in terms of upbringing, Xie Zhuzhou would undoubtedly choose lacking love.
It is indeed regrettable that his parents did not give him more care, but it is not necessarily a bad thing. At least he learned to think independently.
His father, the Marquis of Zhenbei, was a mighty and domineering general who was very strict with his other children but didn't care much about him. If he were to be educated in that way, he probably wouldn't last three days.
Moreover, he didn't like being near the Marquis; the Marquis's voice was like thunder, and he couldn't stand it.
After Xie Zhuzhou finished speaking and fell silent again, Chu Yanzhang couldn't help but hug Xie Zhuzhou tightly, feeling a pang of heartache. " Zhouzhou, you have me from now on."
Xie Zhuzhou snapped out of his daze and hugged the silly Little Yan, touched. This guy was probably imagining all sorts of nonsense again.
The time they spent together passed quickly, and two hours went by without them realizing it. Chu Yanzhang recalled the way he had come and felt a chill of fear in his heart.
Xie Zhuzhou looked out the window. "Why don't you take Aolai with you? There might be snakes on the way. The Yuan Family a lot of snakes, but they escaped from prison. Although most of them were caught, there are still quite a few snakes active in the area..."
Chu Yanzhang: "..."
"Actually, they also kept pet spiders, quite large ones, which also escaped." Xie Zhuzhou recounted the heinous crimes committed by the Yuan Family, feeling that the Ji Family next to them, unaware that the Ji Family's animals were no better off.
After hearing Xie Zhuzhou's description, Chu Yanzhang suddenly didn't want to go back, but staying at Zhouzhou wouldn't be very polite.
Chu Yanzhang ultimately decided to take Aolai back with him. He and Xie Zhuzhou went down to the living room, where Chu Yanzhang patted Aolai's head and softly instructed him, " Aolai, I'm hiring you as my bodyguard tonight. Can you stay at my place tonight?"
As it happened, Aolai was dressed in a bodyguard uniform today, looking imposing and exceptionally powerful. It seemed to understand Chu Yanzhang's words, wagged its tail, and obediently followed behind him.
As night deepened, the chirping of insects rose and fell in the forest.
Chu Yanzhang turned on his flashlight and walked carefully along the path.
Aolai sniffed around every now and then, seemingly alert to any movement in his surroundings.
Chu Yanzhang felt a little nervous, but when he thought of Xie Zhuzhou waiting for him to let him know he was safe at home, he mustered up his courage.
Suddenly, Aolai stopped, his ears perked up, and he stared warily ahead. Chu Yanzhang's heart raced. He followed Aolai's gaze and saw something wriggling in the grass not far away. His palms began to sweat, but he forced himself to remain calm and whispered to Aolai, " Aolai, go take a look."
Aolai growled and slowly approached. Chu Yanzhang held his breath, gripping the flashlight tightly, ready to deal with any unexpected situation. Just then, a snake darted out of the grass. Aolai reacted quickly, biting the snake's vital spot and shaking it wildly until it was dead.
Chu Yanzhang breathed a sigh of relief and patted Aolai's head gratefully. He couldn't even imagine how many dangers he had encountered on his way to the Ji Family.
"Well done, Aolai!"
Aolai wagged his tail. Chu Yanzhang looked at the snake on the ground, then at Aolai: " Aolai, you bit the snake, won't you get poisoned?"
Aolai seemed not to understand what he was saying, tilting his head, but actually he was saying, "Human, you underestimate me!"
In short, Chu Yanzhang breathed a sigh of relief and continued walking forward. After this little incident, he felt a little more relaxed, but he still dared not let his guard down.
Finally, Chu Yanzhang returned home safely. He opened the door and saw Butler Dais standing there, smiling to greet him. "Sir, you're back." The butler took his flashlight, noticing his slightly tired expression. "Would you like some hot drinks?"
"No need, Xiexie." Chu Yanzhang shook his head. "I'm going to take a shower first. Could you settle Aolai in for me? He just killed a snake."
Have the vet come and take a look at it, then ask it what it needs to eat. Don't you have a storage room at home for dog treats? Take it there to choose some.
