Background / History
Ji Wangyun is one of the three sons born to Ji Wuqiu and his ex-wife. During the Ji Family’s violent internal struggle, Ji Wuqiu sent these sons to the Sheng Family for protection. Their maternal grandfather’s influence helped shelter them from the schemes that injured or displaced other members of their generation 18 308.
Ji Wangyun and his brothers returned to their father’s side after turning eighteen. Although they lived together, the household was generally quiet outside mealtimes. Their outwardly affectionate relationships also concealed corporate rivalry: the brothers regularly obstructed one another at work before resuming their show of harmony at home 21 31.
As a child, Ji Wangyun was a persistent troublemaker who outmaneuvered classmates without leaving evidence the school could use against him. He also looked after the younger Li Yankai, taking him out to play and fighting children who bullied him 64 305 306.
Appearance
- Family resemblance: Closely resembles Xie Zhuzhou, particularly around the eyes, but has softer features and noticeably different facial contours 14 299.
- Height: Several centimeters taller than Xie Zhuzhou; Xie later uses three- to four-centimeter height-increasing insoles while impersonating him 26 134.
- Complexion and hands: Has a pale face and slender fingers, emphasized during his embarrassment and piano performance 300 301.
- Clothing: Wears suits professionally, but favors conspicuous casual outfits at home, including hooded dinosaur pajamas and a fiery-red fox jacket 96 112 134.
Personality
Ji Wangyun maintains sharply different public and private personas. At work and formal gatherings, he appears composed, aloof, and difficult to approach. Around family and close friends, he is energetic, mischievous, and frequently undignified. His friends explicitly recognize the supposedly cold boss as a goofball 43 112 134.
He enjoys novelty, provoking reactions, and watching other people get into trouble. Xie Zhuzhou’s indifference initially makes the newly discovered younger brother especially interesting to him. He eagerly anticipates romantic confrontations around Xie and even encourages Qin Fang to challenge him again, privately hoping to watch Qin Fang lose 43 85 89.
His teasing coexists with genuine protectiveness. He praises Xie Zhuzhou for standing up to outsiders, reminds him to wear protective equipment, and trusts that his younger brother can handle most threats—with the older brothers available to retaliate if necessary. That loyalty does not make him forgiving toward people who cross the family 40 58 82 85.
Unlike his more prideful brothers, Ji Wangyun can readily retreat when the odds are unfavorable. He surrenders before sparring with Xie Zhuzhou rather than invite a beating. Romance, however, exposes a less confident side: despite his usual boldness, he hesitates repeatedly over confessing to Li Yankai and becomes overwhelmed when Li confesses first 142 298 300.
Abilities & Skills
Combat
- Restrains Qin Fang’s wrist and kicks him off a coffee table when Qin attempts to remove his disguise on the dating show 69.
- Carries a stun baton when surrounded by Chu Yu’s men 70.
- Knocks out a kidnappers’ leader with an elbow strike and helps Xie Zhuzhou subdue the remaining attackers 228.
- Limitations: Fighting before his head injury has healed causes pallor, exhaustion, and dizziness. He also recognizes that Xie Zhuzhou’s extraordinary strength exceeds his own 75 228.
Impersonation
- Uses his resemblance to Xie Zhuzhou to copy his clothing, posture, speech, and impassive manner 67.
- Successfully passes as Xie before family members, teachers, classmates, and dating-show staff 67 68.
- Limitations: Li Yankai identifies him because he is right-handed, unlike the left-handed Xie, and behaves too gently 67.
Business Management
- Discusses the Cloudheart City project with Ji Wangchen and manages a company with a strongly disciplined workplace 56 134.
- Applies enough pressure to maintain high efficiency without being excessively harsh toward subordinates 303.
- His company requires official superior–subordinate relationships to be registered and prohibits improper relationships between employees and their superiors 303.
Piano
- Performs “track in time” alongside Li Yankai’s cello, adjusting well enough to guide Li despite the latter’s lack of recent practice 301.
- Usually refuses requests to perform; his willingness to play with Li surprises his family and friends 301.
Equipment / Items
- Stun baton — Drawn when Chu Yu’s men surround him while he is impersonating Xie Zhuzhou 70.
- Xie Zhuzhou’s clothes and mask — Used to attend university and the dating show in his younger brother’s place 67 68.
- Private photo album — Protected by a password hint reading “LYK.” Its connection to Li Yankai later becomes clear when Li sees the preserved photographs of their shared past 179 302.
Relationships
- Xie Zhuzhou — Younger paternal half-brother and frequent target of his teasing. Their resemblance enables reciprocal impersonations, while their affection often takes the form of pranks, reluctant favors, and concern disguised by insults 25 67 133 134 164.
- Ji Wangchen — Eldest brother and business collaborator. Wangchen uses an embarrassing photograph to pressure him into working properly and later helps fabricate the story of “Li Yaokun” during his amnesia 56 65 179.
- Ji Wangyan — Younger brother and persistent prank rival. Wangyan forcibly applies lipstick to his face and exploits his memory loss; Wangyun retaliates by pretending to mistake him for a sister 65 179 221.
- Ji Wuqiu — Father. Wangyun openly exposes the mischievous motives behind his father’s respectable explanations; Ji Wuqiu later warns him not to let his feelings for Li Yankai interfere with work 121 270.
- Li Yankai — Childhood companion, later boyfriend. Wangyun originally regarded him as a younger brother and only gradually developed romantic feelings after they met again 301 302.
- Aolai — Pet dog, bought from a pet shop on a rainy day. Aolai is the one familiar companion he remembers immediately after losing his memory 164.
- Mo Liang and Fu Liefeng — Close friends who know his unruly private personality. Both prove unhelpful as romance advisers and admit that their previously displayed partners were hired actors 89 112 299.
- Chu Yanzhang — Xie Zhuzhou’s partner. Wangyun suspects his interest before the relationship begins, but stops finding fault with him after Xie calls Chu his wife, instead warning Xie not to mistreat him 142 157 256.
- Li Shangfeng and Madam Li — Li Yankai’s parents. Initially wary of the Ji Family’s reputation, they become increasingly satisfied after seeing Wangyun’s sincerity and affection for their son 305 306.

- Explains that their grandfather does not yet know Xie exists and raises the possibility of a marriage alliance. After insisting they exchange WeChat details, he sends enough reaction images that Xie blocks him 14.
- Worries that Xie’s refusal to seek inheritance, marriage, or work reflects an emotionally deprived childhood 31.
- Attempts to involve Xie in his own activities and asks their father whether the youngest brother should begin participating in company affairs 43.
Standing In for His Younger Brother
- Takes annual leave to attend Xie’s classes while Xie is abroad. Although he survives the impersonation, practical coursework leaves him exhausted, and Li Yankai eventually sees through it 65 67.
- Continues the disguise at the dating show, fights Qin Fang, and is subsequently mistaken for Xie by Chu Yu, who surrounds him with attackers. Ji Wangyan rushes to help him 68 69 70 71.
- Later suffers a black eye and bruised mouth when a theater prank against Ji Wangchen and Mu Fan backfires. He persuades Xie to cover his job while the injuries heal 133 134.
Car Accident and Amnesia

- Wakes at Cangshan Hospital unable to recognize most relatives, although he remembers Aolai. The doctor expects his memories to return as he recovers 164.
- Becomes distressed after Ji Wangchen and Ji Wangyan invent “Li Yaokun,” supposedly a friend who died saving him, to explain the “LYK” hint on his private album 179.
- Learns the truth from Xie Zhuzhou and quietly plans retaliation. He exploits his apparent confusion to call Ji Wangyan “Third Sister-Brother” and pressures his brothers to maintain their fabricated story 221 222.
- Has recovered his memory by the hospital discharge sequence, but continues the pretense. Xie recognizes the deception and later accuses him of using amnesia to avoid work 245 246 261.
Kidnappings and the Jin Family
- Leaves home before fully recovering to help rescue Li Yankai. Xie Zhuzhou and Aolai join him against the kidnappers, but the exertion leaves Wangyun dizzy and requires further hospitalization 228 229.
- Is targeted again while riding with Xie and Li Yankai. Xie leads the Jin Family’s pursuing vehicles into a police encirclement 246.
- Learns that evidence against Jin Renwei has been uncovered with Chu Yanzhang’s assistance. Ji Wuqiu leaves Jin Renwei’s fate for Wangyun to decide 270.

- After Xie confirms that Li Yankai has come out, seeks him out on Qilin Mountain. Li confesses first; they mutually acknowledge their feelings and begin dating 299 300 301.
- Announces the relationship at a family-and-friends dinner and celebrates afterward with their piano-and-cello duet 301.
- Welcomes Li as an intern at his company. Li wants to spend time with him while keeping him focused on work, frustrating Wangyun’s hopes for a less strictly professional office romance 302 303.
- Prepares extensively to meet Li’s parents, seeking advice from his brothers and practicing his introduction. His sincerity, clean private life, and evident devotion gradually win them over 305 306.

Trivia
