Sect Master of Nine Heavens Gate

Jun Ling Yuan presided over Nine Heavens Gate from Cloud Top Immortal Palace. Under his direction, the sect maintained a restrained, rule-abiding posture toward other powers, prioritizing stability over expansion; this approach kept its foundation secure and prevented open conflict with forces such as Pure Bliss Mansion. 751

When Pure Bliss Old Ancestor awakened and caused unrest across the Eastern Divine Continent, Jun Ling Yuan sensed the disturbance from afar. After learning that an ascender from Yun Cang Realm had defeated Kuroshou Old Ancestor and heavily wounded Pure Bliss Old Ancestor, he proposed inviting the ascender to Nine Heavens Gate. 751

Although he held the office of sect master, Jun Ling Yuan regarded Nine Heavens Gate chiefly as an instrument for managing minor affairs. He believed that his connection to Ling Jiuxiao alone would allow him to compel the Eastern Divine Continent's other powers if he chose to do so. 867

Disciple of Ling Jiuxiao

Jun Ling Yuan is the disciple of Ling Jiuxiao, founder of the Heavenly Path and a Great Luo Immortal Venerable. He treats Ling Jiuxiao with considerable respect, frequently reporting his findings and seeking his approval. 816 880

He investigated the identity of Azure Dragon and correctly connected both Azure Dragon and Shen Yun to Yun Cang Realm. However, Shen Yun's use of a puppet during the Enlightenment Tea Gathering led Jun Ling Yuan and Ling Jiuxiao to incorrectly conclude that Shen Yun and Azure Dragon were separate individuals. 816 817

Ling Jiuxiao repeatedly identified Jun Ling Yuan's principal weakness as excessive confidence: his tendency to regard people as pieces on a chessboard and himself as the player. Jun Ling Yuan outwardly accepted this criticism, but remained convinced that Shen Yun had to be eliminated before he could grow stronger. 857

Following the destruction of Sky Devil Mountain, the relationship became irreparable. When Jun Ling Yuan later reappeared after Eternal Night Devil Venerable's possession, he addressed Ling Jiuxiao as “Fellow Daoist” rather than master, while Ling Jiuxiao openly questioned whether he was speaking to Jun Ling Yuan or Eternal Night Devil Venerable. 958

Conflict with Shen Yun and Azure Dragon

Unable to act directly against Azure Dragon, Jun Ling Yuan identified Shen Yun as a potential pressure point due to Shen Yun's friendship with Azure Dragon. He attempted to recruit the Little Martial Saint to locate Shen Yun, offering a Martial Dao Secret Manual as payment, but the Little Martial Saint refused. 867

After infiltrating Tianwu Hall, Jun Ling Yuan exploited the Yin-Yang Soul Refining Pool to implant a Demonic Seed in the Little Martial Saint during the latter's Golden Immortal breakthrough. Fall and Return

During the conflict at Sky Devil Mountain, Jun Ling Yuan set a formation intended to trap Ling Jiuxiao and his allies as they attempted to escape. This act turned his relationship with his master openly hostile. 945

During the ensuing catastrophe, Eternal Night Devil Venerable seized Jun Ling Yuan's body. The possession was later explicitly recognized by Ling Jiuxiao, who could no longer identify the person before him solely as his former disciple. 947 958

He vanished after Sky Devil Mountain's destruction and was presumed dead by many. Years later, he resurfaced at Half-Step Daluo, having fully healed, gained an altered life essence, and acquired protection against Shen Yun's divination methods. 993

He is also proud and easily destabilized when his schemes fail or when Shen Yun surpasses him. Being outbid for the Life Ancient Seed, denied the Yellow Court Immortal Fruits, and defeated by Mu Hanyu each provoked visible anger and worsened his injuries. 898 911 913

Despite his ruthlessness, he displays genuine loyalty toward Ling Jiuxiao. He sought rare spiritual herbs and the help of the Three Immortals Cave to treat Ling Jiuxiao's soul wounds, though his later decision to trap his master at Sky Devil Mountain revealed that his self-preservation could override that loyalty. 909 912 945
