On the eve of the Chunin Ninja Exams, Uchiha Xin met with Hiruzen Sarutobi and convinced him of his loyalty to Konoha. He rejected the idea of becoming Hokage, declared that he wanted to marry Hinata, and left Hiruzen and Kakashi to consider the complications of such a match.

• After Team 7 returned from the Land of Waves, Xin resolved to distance himself from Naruto and Sasuke before the Chunin Ninja Exams.
• Hiruzen summoned Xin and praised his strength, while Xin used self-hypnosis to hide his true feelings and persuade Hiruzen that he loved the village.
• Xin told Hiruzen he did not want to become Hokage because the job sounded boring and burdensome.
• Xin declared that he wanted to marry Hinata, then dashed out of Hiruzen's office.
