Nature's Magic?
Ghost was just about to give a couple of friendly howls to say hello and bond with a fellow wolf.
The black wolf spoke first. "Awooo-woo-awoo?" (Hey, want to mate with me?)
Fuck?! Ghost's eyes went wide, and she froze in shock. I thought we could be bros, and you fucking want to bang me?
Seeing no response from Ghost, the black wolf switched to another way of communicating.
A pleasant but still arrogant voice sounded in her mind. "Hey, I'm asking you a question! Want to be my wife? Don't judge me by how I look now. I used to be the strongest in my pack."
Ghost: successive shocks.jpg!
Enough shock to last my mom a whole year!
Leaving aside this bizarre courtship-animals were very direct, she understood that-what was going on with this stream-of-consciousness-like communication?
Was this black wolf no ordinary wolf either?
She vaguely remembered that the werewolves in Twilight had this sort of telepathic ability. Alphas, for instance, could control the wolves from a distance. She had never expected to encounter such wondrous nature magic in the world of Ice and Fire, too.
The black wolf was still yammering away as though no one else were there, giving Ghost a headache. "Hmph, looks like you're an idiot. Forget it, then. I'd hate to contaminate my powerful bloodline."
"What a shame. So pretty, but an idiot?"
"You still look like a pup. Why would a female leave her pack? Were all your packmates killed?"
"Looks like you really are an idiot. You can't say a single word..."
You motherfucker...? Are you the only one with a mouth, yapping all fucking day??? Rage instantly surged through Ghost, blood rushing to her head and anger clouding her reason.
The white figure sprang forward like a phantom, her sharp teeth clamping tightly onto the black wolf's... tail. The white wolf shook her head madly from side to side, biting and tearing.
Caught off guard by the bite, the black wolf let out a howl of pain, almost bursting into tears. It also roused his ferocity.
Without another word, the two wolves instantly sank their teeth into each other.
Whether Ghost had a strong constitution or the black wolf was off his game, he proved no match for her at all. What little intact fur he had left was nearly torn off completely by Ghost, and his tail was almost bitten through.
What the black wolf found unbelievable was that his strength could not even match that of a female pup.
Ghost had never learned how wolves fought, but the longer she fought, the more worked up she became. She felt as though her body held an inexhaustible supply of brute strength.
A faint bloody gleam actually shone in her round green eyes.
"I surrender, I surrender! Stop biting me! Awoo, awoo..." The black wolf desperately rolled over, breaking free from Ghost's hold, and crouched on the ground, panting heavily and looking aggrieved.
Ghost gradually regained her reason. The gruesome scene before her was completely beyond her expectations.
Looks like I'm pretty good at fighting... But now that it's over, I'm so tired and hungry, aaah... She could even eat a whole cow right now.
The black wolf spoke weakly. "You've conquered me... If you want to ravage me, come on!"
Ghost: ?
What is wrong with you? You're still trying to get laid for free???
She said scornfully, "I think you're the one with something wrong with your brain. Wouldn't normal people... normal wolves say hello and introduce themselves first?"
The black wolf raised his head slightly and gave her a strange look, then lowered it again without another sound.
He seemed to have passed out, and even his breathing had grown a little faint.
Ghost: Oh no, this guy isn't dead, is he? Am I that brutal?
Ghost changed back into human form and slowly approached him. She discovered that the black wolf already had old injuries, and the wounds had torn open during the fight. They were indeed somewhat serious.
The earth beneath him was already stained red with blood.
Frightened, Ghost hurried out to find things to treat his wounds. Before that, she hid the black wolf at a long-abandoned farm west of Rotten Grass Root Farm.
This area was mostly wilderness, with few people but no particularly fierce beasts. There were plenty of small rodents in the wasteland, especially wild mice, which were like potatoes scattered in the soil: dig once, and there was a whole nest.
Ghost had been in human form when she moved the black wolf. She had picked him up effortlessly and had almost toppled backward from using too much force.
Looking down at her slender arms and legs, Ghost could not help marveling. Ever since I transmigrated and stopped being human, haven't I been getting more and more freakish?
She would treat the black wolf's wounds first. She still wanted to find out how this telepathic communication between wolves worked.
Fortunately, despite his faint breathing, the black wolf was tough to kill.
This wolf was a bit scatterbrained, but she could not just leave him alone. A lone wolf with injuries this severe would only become food for the vultures in the wilderness.
Ghost sneaked home to fetch some coarse rope and clean cloth. After some thought, she also poured out some liquor from the jar Old Bill had secretly hidden in a crack in the wall.
She probably needed to disinfect the black wolf's wounds before bandaging them? As for the rope, that was to help him "rest."
She did not know whether this coal-ball wolf could turn into a human. What if he woke up and ran off while she was away?
I might as well put him in a tortoiseshell bondage tie, hehehe...
A gust of cold wind blew past, and Ghost quickly shook her head, clearing the dirty thoughts out of her brain.
I've been single so long that even a dog looks handsome to me.
The important task right now is to save him!! I'll just treat a dead wolf as though he's still alive...
She dampened the cloth with a little under half a cup of liquor and cleaned the black wolf's wounds. He seemed to feel the pain, letting out faint whimpers in his unconscious state.
It made Ghost, who had been a devoted dog lover in her previous life, feel a little sorry for him.
Her bandaging skills were truly poor, and she accidentally wrapped two of his legs in as well. Without looking at the black wolf's upper body, one might have thought this thing was an oversized silkworm.
Dawn was almost here. This would have to do for now. Bill and Mesha got up very early, so she had to hurry back and play the good little girl, then find something to eat and come see him after dark.
Wolves were resilient creatures. He would definitely survive.
Not long after she hurried back to the little pasture, Bill and Mesha got up.
Ghost heard Mesha cursing out in the field. "That festering little thief came to steal again! Even stealing rope and cloth. May you freeze to death in the cold night."
Ghost: Sorry, QAQ...
Some strange things had been happening lately.
When Mesha worked out in the wild fields, she would keep "finding" half-dead little animals: rabbits, moles, squirrels, and so on. She could not help wondering whether some strange little field sprite was at work.
The white wolf covered her face. She had caught all of those in wolf form... Yes, these little animals were all she could catch right now. She could not catch anything bigger, QAQ.
The family now had a little meat to improve their meals, and Old Bill even took the pelts into town to sell, easing the couple's burden a little.
Because Ghost did such a good job tending the sheep (?), Mesha and Bill practically praised her to the skies, their rose-tinted view of her growing stronger by the day.
Only one thing bothered Ghost a little.
Old Bill said that he kept running into Harley the Cunning Wolf lately, and Harley had bought all the wild game he was selling, saying it was to feed the dogs. But Harley was the lord's Snow... How could those hunting dogs possibly be short of meat?
Still, as long as he got paid, that was fine. Old Bill chuckled and thought nothing of it. But when Ghost learned about it, her heart tightened.
There was definitely something wrong with this Harley.
